The outage has been a set-up from the start.
On AC:Brotherhood, I've been going Number One each Multiplayer session I played. Sony realized this and shut it down. My face when I started up my PS3 and couldn't connect.

My Portal 2 finally came in, and while I was really wanting to play on my pc first, I find the ps3 version runs pretty decent, and at least I can play the single player.
Really am looking forward to when the psn is back up though.

A podcast somewhere once said that PSN is still in beta compared to Xbox Lives online service.
Totally the truth considering i don't own some of the games my friends do, so cross game chat is a must.

Admittidly yeah I do hope this gives them a chance to well, add features and such, xbox live is miles ahead of PSN for it's online features and such and Sony really needs to catch up to make it more appealing, xbox's parties, the way it handles messages, it's online in general is just really good, hell when xbox live went down for 10 days or so two years ago (or three) while you couldn't play games they still enabled you so you can talk online and such, and to say sorry they extended everyones gold account and let them have a free game from live (though from memory the game wasn't too good, but hey thought that counts)

It's still may favourite media center, yes the updates take hours per update and all these other pointless faults but I love my PS3 for this. They give us a free online community and some dicks take it down because they won't let you hack the PS3 and put Linux on it (really why do you even need Linux on the PS3), real mature.
I want to like the PS3 because i think LBP2 is brilliant, but the updating, lack of online interaction that Xbox Live already has, and things like this where the PSN just goes down for long periods of time really push me away from the PS3 in general. The game concepts like 3D Dot Game Heroes, LBP, Infamous, and etc are all fantastic, but they need to get their shit together in the online department.

Anyway, this PSN outage isn't fairing well with me. Can't play me some Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, was planning on doing a playthrough without jumping and with both prestige upgrades equipped.
As much as this is a shitty situation (and I don't like the idea of my CC details possibly being compromised), there is a part of me that is laughing at Sony. They called this down on themselves, first they removed Linux (and act like whatever is in the terms of agreement is the word of God that they can change to their will and completely overrides consumer rights), then they get all arrogant and threaten to sue everybody even for just having watched an Youtube clip.
Sadly the consumers got fucked too, but I don't feel any pity at all for Sony. Remember what MS did towards the Kinect hackers? No? Because they know how to handle shit like this, and let it run (more or less).
