Huuuuge update guys
Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the current outage of PlayStation Network & Qriocity services. We don’t have an exact date to share at this moment as to when we will have the services turned on, but are working day and night to ensure it is as quickly as possible. We are currently working to send the following message via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of this malicious attack on our servers, so please look for this information via email as well. Please note that we are as upset as you are regarding this attack and are going to proceed aggressively to track down those that are responsible.
Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer,
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.
We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please check www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams

So the worst of what we have feared is a strong possibility for some. Chances of you getting info stolen though is pretty slim, still the possibility is there. Just change your account info when it comes back ASAP and everywhere you use that username/email.
No need to get REALLY worried, odds of you being compromised are slim. Even if you provided your CC info. Just change it when you can and check bank statements and be vigiliant of your online login info (as in alter it everywhere you use similar/alike information)

"So they've got your address, password, name, etc. But don't worry guys! We still can't be sure if they've taken your credit card details!"

Given the level of maturity in the PS3 "scene", :10bux: says one of the kids will take credit for the intrusion and post all the data they stole, just like what happened to Gawker.
I have officially lost all hope for the "dev" scene. At first I was hoping someone would restore the OtherOS feature, but now it's apparent that the scene is filled with teenagers who don't even give a fuck about Linux, only making it possible to steal games.
I wonder if PSN being down has anything to do with the douchebags over at Slickdeals scamming Valve for free copies of Portal 2?

That community has always been the social retards who are bent on getting revenge on something to give themselves the illusion of power and control. Probably the guys that get beat up at school. It goes to everyone's head. I really hope whoever did this gets thrown in jail for a long time.

Seriously? This was posted just 5 posts before you.
[editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
I can't remember if I ever bought anything using my credit card on PSN. I know I bought one of those PSN store points cards...
It was posted on April 26 on us edition of play-station blog. Which is today.
According to the posts above me
"http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/04/26/psnqriocity-service-update/"
is down and not working. Maybe someone wants to read the Article on the us site as well not read it from a shitty blue box.

It'll probably be down for a few more days at least. Also updated the OP, thanks Itchy.
Damn it, this was my last day on break and I really wanted to get some bc2 mp or p2 coop in today.
As someone who doesn't use my PS3 or my 360, I want you all to know that I find this absolutely hilarious.
Just the reactions from all of the tough guys who can't handle being separated from their COD is just fucking brilliant.
I feel sorry for the people who bought Portal 2 for PS3 and can't play it co-op or access the new steam feature.
Kind of disappointed, I wanted to try MAG.
I feel for you guys, if Xbox Live was down for a week or so, I'd definitely be pissed too.
Hope it's back online soon, and hope you guys manage to stay sane.
Sony is trying really, really hard to stay in last place.
I know this is no big deal, but it makes Sony look really bad and will probably hurt sales of the PS4.
Give me your fanboy boxes, but you know I'm right.
Good thing CCs have lots of security measures (especially mine, fucking pain in the ass to buy stuff sometimes). As for my password leaking, who cares. There are tens of millions of users on PSN, no one will give a fuck about my passwords, chances that someone does something with it are really really small.

Personally I'm a bit pissed because I bought Portal 2 for PS3, but it went down the day I got it, and I can't link my accounts so i can get a copy for steam.

It was an inside job,
Valve and Sony want you to buy both versions.
So does this entail credit card info if you bought one thing ever and don't have your credit card info still locked in?

They have stolen from everyone
Full Name
City State ZIP
Mailing addresses
Billing information
Passwords
Emails
Sony is unsure if they have your credit card as well, Expiration date, and all info needed to go wild, it's honestly best to just get a new one or whatever. If you used the service even ONCE it's stored and the hackers have access to it
Seriously, Seriously change passwords and such.
On my Facebook, people are saying PSN is online now.

I think he's thinking that people are using the same password for everything
I used to do that. About 6 years ago, then I got paranoid and started using a load of different passwords.

yep, glad I saw that wimp video about passwords. I forgot what I set as my PSN password, never had to sign on since I first made it.
