It wasn't Annoymous all they do is DDOS sites
Not them as a whole, but I have no doubt it was caused by a subsect of them.
Anyways, now I'm kinda pissed. Since they confirmed info has been gathered, I'm gonna probably get a new card.
Just changed my Amazon password and whatnot.
Very disappointed with Sony right now.
A lot of people bought a PS3 just to use Linux on it stop trying to make it seem like nothing.
A lot of people wanted OtherOS just to play pirate copies, but yeah there are some that just wanted it for other reasons
I doubt it was Anonymous. Anonymous wouldn't take credit card info from innocent PSN users and use it to run up bills. They only do that to people that claim "war" against.
I'm not really angry. I've been busy lately anyway will RL things. It's too bad they didn't up their security in the first place so something like this wouldn't happen.

At first I was mad that I simply couldn't play Portal 2. Now this is fucking huge as in some people are claiming that they are having fraudulent charges to their credit or debit cards. There is really no way to downplay this. I'm not going to completely abandon my PS3, but it looks like prepaid PSN cards only from now on. There really is no such thing as playing it too safe in this case.
Dear PS3 users
Play singleplayer games.

No now we are worried about all of our fucking information being stolen. Go away.
Just got this in the email. Not sure if its late or not.
PlayStation(R)Network
===================================
Valued PlayStation(R)Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011,
certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account
information was compromised in connection with an illegal and
unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this
intrusion, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full
and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our
network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you
with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill
as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and
efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident,
we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country,
email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login,
and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data,
including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip),
and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may
have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your
dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have
been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit
card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have
provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity,
out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit
card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have
been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email,
telephone and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive
information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email,
asking for your credit card number, social security number or other
personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information,
you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation
Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that
you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation
Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or
accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we
encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and
to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information
for those who wish to consider it:
- U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually
from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report,
visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
- We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S.
credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus
place a "fraud alert" on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps
to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can
make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however,
that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you,
it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your
identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others
are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a
fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report,
please contact any one of the agencies listed below:
Experian: 888-397-3742; www.experian.com; P.O. Box 9532, Allen, TX 75013
Equifax: 800-525-6285; www.equifax.com; P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241

- You may wish to visit the website of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at
www.consumer.gov/idtheft or reach the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 or 600 Pennsylvania
Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580 for further information about how to protect
yourself from identity theft. Your state Attorney General may also have advice
on preventing identity theft, and you should report instances of known or
suspected identity theft to law enforcement, your State Attorney General,
and the FTC. For North Carolina residents, the Attorney General can be
contacted at 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-9001; telephone
(877) 566-7226; or www.ncdoj.gov. For Maryland residents, the Attorney
General can be contacted at 200 St. Paul Place, 16th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202;

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this
incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the
clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes
information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that
additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information.
Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is
our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any
additional questions.

I hadn't even considered Netflix. Just changed my password even though it was different from my PSN and email login. Couldn't you just cancel that account and sign up a new one? Or somehow contact Netflix about it?
When I was reading the article and it stated that PSN was hacked on the release date of portal 2. I cant help but think that it may have been related to steam for PS3. Or maybe that is just a continuation of the portal ARG and GLaDOS is hacking PSN :ohdear:

I'd like a list :colbert:
Because so far, I haven't met a single person.
wow this is fucking beyond bullshit
I seriously don't get what the purpose of downloading an OS on your video game console is. Besides the fact that you could pirate games what purpose does it serve? Emulators? I could do that on a computer. Almost any computer if you're just playing SNES games and 64 games. And the as for pirating what are you stealing? It is way easier to pirate games on the computer from what I know (I don't because I would rather own the game) so I guess you would just go for the PS3 exclusives you can't download on your PC. There aren't so many PS3 exclusives where you wouldn't eventually have enough money to actually purchase them.
Someone make me understand.

Its for the homebrew maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!(which to as of now, is nothing whatsoever. Even when OtherOS was allowed it still had nothing)
Homebrew is really stupid. I remember downloading Wii and DS homebrew. It was all shitty homebrew software which was shit like art programs and really shitty mp3 and video software with shitty interfaces. And then there were emulators which didn't always work right with the hardware (certain layers in SNES games wouldn't load.) I'm sure you could do a crap load more with the PS3, but that doesn't stop homebrew developers from sucking.
In the end I have to come back to the question of why they don't do this all on a computer where the software for all of these things already exists. The most you have to buy is a gamepad and maybe a new computer. If they don't have the money for the computer they can sell their PS3 because they aren't using it for what it was made for anyways.
I used Homebrew only once, and that was for Brawl+, which at least was to change up gameplay, and not to download some stupid little programs.

What exactly can they do with your netflix? Change the address to theirs, and have the dvds shipped to them? Cause that would be stupid.
They watch something on instant? Change the password.
They can't get your credit card information from Netflix, because all but the last 4 digits are starred, so what exactly did they do?
You are the first person who has claimed to have their Netflix information taken, which has nothing to do with your psn, except that you need to be signed in to load Netflix, and you don't even need to sign in technically.
So, I am really curious about what is going on.
Another thing, out of all the information that Sony said was leaked, or could even possibly be leaked, Netflix was not among them.
What pisses me off the most about this is how the internet has turned geohot into some kind of internet White Knight fighting the good fight when in reality he's partly to blame.
Wow, I guess this was a great time to buy Portal 2 for the PS3! :smithicide:
Wow, I guess this was a great time to buy Portal 2 for the PS3! :smithicide:
I don't regret purchasing Portal 2 for my ps3. I am really enjoying the single-player, and the co-op splitscreen is fun.
I can wait for the psn to be back up, it really doesn't bother me that much.

Okay I did do that which was actually a lot of fun. So modifying games is a good use of homebrew. We have that now. Though I'm sure PS3 homebrew would start to take the purpose of cheating online which is really something I don't want to see. It works on the Wii since online multiplayer isn't used as much as other platforms.
