Personally, I think its great Sony got on this as fast as they did. Sure they didn't tell us what the fuck was happening in the first place, but at the very least they're fixing it.
Also I think they're just now telling us because they probally found the neckbeard responsable.

Honestly if my credit card information has been comprised I would have liked to know ASAP and not 6 days later.
I don't regret purchasing Portal 2 for my ps3. I am really enjoying the single-player, and the co-op splitscreen is fun.
I can wait for the psn to be back up, it really doesn't bother me that much.
I finished both already. My co-op partner and I were pretty good. We didn't get all the co-op trophies, but I heard that there is a possibility that the trophies will not update when PSN comes back online. I did get all of the Singleplayer ones though. So I'm waiting for PSN to come back so I can register my steam key and play with my steam friends. That is why I am so eager.
I do hope it won't take another week to fix it. Was planning to get MK next Friday
GOTTA GET DOWN ON FRIIIIIIIDAY.
:commissar:
At first I thought Sony was making up the entire "external intrusion" thing up but with the details being stolen and all, seems like they got fucked up badly.
Hope Sony is able to fix the problem.
What exactly can they do with your netflix? Change the address to theirs, and have the dvds shipped to them? Cause that would be stupid.
They watch something on instant? Change the password.
They can't get your credit card information from Netflix, because all but the last 4 digits are starred, so what exactly did they do?
You are the first person who has claimed to have their Netflix information taken, which has nothing to do with your psn, except that you need to be signed in to load Netflix, and you don't even need to sign in technically.
So, I am really curious about what is going on.
Another thing, out of all the information that Sony said was leaked, or could even possibly be leaked, Netflix was not among them.
Oh, i'm an idiot then.
Better tell my parents to change the password then.

I see a lot of posts similar to this one in various places over the internet, they're just trolling right?
I mean they have to be, they just have to be.
They are, they can't not be.
Chatlog posted 2 months ago that correlate and line up with EXACTLY what's happening now.

That person is probably a proud member of the PC Master Race and would never stoop to such peasant games found on the PS3. He's not affected, and he's thinking illogically. Not surprising.

It's alright, I just saw your post and started looking into what a person could do with the login info for Netflix, and upon looking, I realized that there really wasn't anything harmful they could do besides maybe prank you, or watch some movies.
I then looked into the psn hack to see if there was any information about Netflix, and there was literally nothing, it has nothing to do with psn.
In fact, I can watch Netflix on my ps3 still by canceling the login in screen for psn.
1 word, FALLOUT
Fallout New Vegas is sweet, but I missed my chance to buy the DLC, and it's getting pretty stale, considering I had game since release date. Fallout 3, I still have 1 dlc I didn't complete, but, I can't play it since it doesn't have true ironsights, and just isn't as fluid as FONV.
I'm recompleting GTA IV's main storyline right now, trying to get liberty city minute, that's my SP game. GTA IV can never get old for me, till a GTA V comes out. I hope there is one.

I don't get what side you're taking here.
Are you siding with the guy calling people braindead idiots because they think Sony is at fault as well, or are you siding with me in thinking that the guy calling people braindead idiots is a derp?

Are you saying that what that guy said isn't true? Because from what I've seen some people are doing exactly that.

Sorry, I fucked up the post a lot. I got his side confused. I agree with him, anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete retard.
What is happening isn't that people are defending the hackers, what is happening is that people are mainly just blaming Sony and are working under the assumption that everyone else is canny enough to know that although they're mainly just blaming Sony, that they're aware it's also largely the fault of the hackers, but that to take a paragraph out to specifically state that would be an act of redundancy, because it's obvious.
There's little point in making a fuss about the hackers though, there's always going to be someone or some group with a malicious intent and the means to act upon it, that's not to say they're excused and not at fault for their actions, what it means is that as an entity handling the details of your customers you must be cognizant of the reality of the situation, and take at the very least an adequate level of measures to ensure that your customers are protected, which is what Sony failed spectacularly at doing. It's the fault of the hackers, but Sony aren't blame free either.
Suing them isn't going to help your case though.
Okay, Riutet. Explain to me how giving Sony more shit to pay attention to is going to solve a security issue at all? You think they need to be sued to figure out they fucked up?
Still perplexed at those of you complaining. I honestly understand the frustration but really, unless you paid for the optional PS+ service, I dunno how you can complain that your free service is down for an extended period of time for the FIRST time in it's history. Hell the PSN has only been down for "maintainence" a handful of times since 2006.
I swear this mentality of over entitlement speaks leaps and bounds about this generation. It's like taking away a drug addict's heroin for a few hours and you flip a shit. Is it really that hard to live without online connectivity for an extended period of time? I mean really?
Honestly I'm surprised something like this hadn't happened sooner. It'll be up again, stop worrying and god forbid, play a game offline :O
I agree, but I'm more worried about my credit card information than getting online achievements right now.
Okay, Riutet. Explain to me how giving Sony more shit to pay attention to is going to solve a security issue at all? You think they need to be sued to figure out they fucked up?
It took a serious security breach for them to fix an obvious flaw with their security, considering this, giving them as much shit as possible is probably the only real way to get them to straighten their shit up, because it's evident they don't give a solitary fuck until it blows up in their face.
I love all the Sony Fanboys backpadlling all of Sony's mistakes.
This is a pretty bad situation. I can see it from both sides.
On one hand, evil hackers are kind of fucking over the player base, and that's no good at all. Especially with the credit card theft. I also feel bad for the guys at Sony who have to clean this up. It's not pretty, at all. This obviously isn't vigilante justice against Sony or something like that, it's just some assholes being assholes.
On the other hand, Sony probably shouldn't have made it so this was able to happen. They fucked up security-wise, and even if it is their worst-case scenario, it still completely fucks over their loyal customers because of a security leak.
In any case, at least it's not a paid service in the first place, so as long as your credit card info isn't stolen, you'll be fine, financially. I would like to see a little less Xbox 360 jabs though. I don't feel that has much of a place here. The console itself has very little to do with it, really. It's the company, and their online service, that's being discussed. Not which console is better, or which fans are dumber.

Are you implying it hasn't blown up in their face? Suing them is unnecessary at the moment and will only make attention more split.

I don't see anyone in this thread doing that.

Go back to being delicious
Welp, this explains why I have charges on my debit card that aren't me. Froze the account asap, and I'll have to make a new one.
Apologies about my previous post, didn't know this fiasco got so serious so fast. Turns out my Netflix tied to my account is fucked and my uncle's credit card details have gotten out. Damn.
I sure hope the network won't come up again before years. Maybe that'll stop all the shitty PS3 only games :)
Little big planet for everyone. Yay

Except not protect the personal information of PS3 Users? And maybe stirring shit up with the hacker community by suing people for the jailbreak/modding thing?
Except not protect the personal information of PS3 Users? And maybe stirring shit up with the hacker community by suing people for the jailbreak/modding thing?
I wouldn't want Sony to just sit back while people with "jailbroken" systems run around online cheating and possibly getting free games.
All this shit happened because someone wanted PS3 hacked. The information Sony had was protected until their security failed due to "hacking". If someone wants in they will find a way.
The information Sony had was protected until their security failed due to "hacking". If someone wants in they will find a way.
The personal information sure as hell wasn't encrypted though AFAIK. Big mistake.
If it was, the hacker might have gotten access to it, but wouldn't be able to use it.
I really cant understand why all our personal information wasnt encrypted at all, and just stored in plain text. How can a company as big as Sony with as much money and users as they have, NOT encrypt or have extensive security measures in place to secure their users data.
