Heroes of Newerth - Insta-lock Scout, level Codex to 5 - Games

I got like 800 points (what were they called, PDR? or something) due to having horrible teams each and every fucking game, is there still chance for me to restore it or should I just consider buying the PDR wipe thing?

Or at least join games and invite people you know. Or you could just buy a stat reset.

To pass trough the drudge of the day I attempted to speedrun a game in practice mode with several heroes, so far Balphagore has proven to be the most effective...

Nevermind I can magically play now for no reason. What's the exact name of the FP HoN channel I forgot it.

I once got 6 ints on a team in an AR (One guy repicked and got another int). We won.

Tried playing a game with some Reddit peeps. In-Game guide wasn't working and I couldn't remember starting items. Game got paused 'cause both teams had a d/c. I said I'd be right back, d/c'd but couldn't get back in. :saddowns:

It's a Distributed Denial of Service, which in layman terms means they're being effectively "attacked" by a ton (read: anywhere between 100-1000+) zombie computers. In not-so-layman terms, a bunch of people who hate S2 atm are using a bunch of infected computer's internet resources to send bad data to S2, with the intention of overloading their server. S2 probably has a dude who handles this (and programs etc) that try to filter out the bad data, but any good DDoS (read: if a bunch of people are using a ton of zombie computers they infected, it's probably going to be a good one) will just adjust the kind of bad data they are sending constantly, making it difficult to filter. Some of the actual players have been getting affected by this filtering as well, most likely because their computers are actually infected w/o their knowledge. Finally, a good DDoS is something that even a huge company can't deal with very quickly. Someone like Amazon with a ridiculous infrastructure can, but uh, S2 is a very very small indie company. They aren't used to this. Even if they were, it still wouldn't be a quick resolution. The only real way to stop a DDoS is to stop the DDoSers at the source (ie: arrest them, this is criminal activity, mind you), or to build one hell of a defense to it (which takes time).

Educational. As much as it "isn't their fault", it's still piss annoying. They're not really announcing anything but "brb trying to fixxor!" and the system keeps going up and down. can't they just pull a Sony and keep the service down until they can provide it with such consistency that it does not ruin peoples games/stats? Answer: No stat, i guess.

Answer: No stat, i guess.[/QUOTE] See, the difference here is that Sony got hacked and had information stolen, so they brought the service down to survey the damage, warn everyone, and improve security against that attack. They essentially got attacked once. (it was a big attack I'm not trying to marginalize it but still.) S2 is essentially being attacked hundreds of times over every minute. If they shut down the service, yes, the attacks stop, but they have no way of gauging what needs to be filtered because the zombies can't attack them. The instant they bring the service back up again...it'll just have problems one way or the other. It's annoying, but the only way to build a defense against something...is to know what is attacking you.

S2 caught the guy responsible and is working with UK police to arrest him. In the UK the punishment for this is 10 years in prison. Service should resume soon then. :) Along with double coins!
