Those crappy graphics are so nostalgic
Settings like those always make me think of the alphas.
That mutant mod is so hilarious. Also what the fuck you have claws.
I don't know where those talons came from
:ohdear:
Is that a purple hello kitty AN-94?
X8 is a fucking labyrinth speaking of labyrinths, fuck the oasis quest
Is that a purple hello kitty AN-94?
killed a guy named isildur who had it. Took it because it took 5.45 and was p accurate, more so than the obokan/an94. The look is a bit degrading sure.
So I was walking around teh zone, right? That stupid scientist got himself shot after he ran off, and I didn't find him. so I started moving to yantar, killed off some mercs who were assholes, stole their guns when I suddenly found a perfectly fine AK5, just... sitting there, minding it's own buisness. That Is until I picked it up and shot a couple of guys, who were up to no good they were making trouble in the neighbourhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared And said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air" [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] Also having a SMG as an pistol is hilarious. I'm usually on a strict double-tap doctrine, so it's even more fun to jump from behind a corner and fill some unlucky fuck with lead. Also if you wield the TMP and sprint around it's like Mirrors Edge.
Hi brothers, it's the Southern Comfort team here. First of all - greetings and a pollitra of vodka to everyone! There's been some buzz in the earlier megathread about our project and it's time to clarify a few things about the book. Unlike many Russian books (not to mention the German spin-off), it's produced by dedicated fans of the Stalker universe. We would rather force a bloodsucker into oral sex than deviate from Zone lore. We've played all three parts ad nauseam, first vanilla, then with all available mods, and after years of exploring the Zone and reaching the CNPP a hundred times, we were wishing for something new. New plot, new locations, new characters. We aren't modders so we wrote a book instead. GSC liked the idea and approved of it. There's an FAQ on the flash site of the book (http://www.stalkersoutherncomfort.com/) to set things straight. As we see it, the Afghan setting works two ways. On one hand, for the people of the USSR, the Afghan war was maybe even a bigger disaster than Chernobyl. The protagonist is "a jaded veteran of the Zone" (as stalker.wiki describes him), but apart from fighting the Zone, he also has a score to settle with his father's generations old enemies. On the other hand, certain locations in Afghanistan are just like the Zone, with loads of Soviet debris from the same time when Chernobyl happened. The only question is how a new Zone could happen in Afghanistan - and this is exactly what the plot will be about: Kiev sends good old Professor Sakharov to investigate. When he and his team disappears, Major Degtyarev tasks a buddy from Operation Fairway's days to rescue them. That's it. It's all about having new mysteries, new locations and characters - without overwriting a letter of what had happened in the Zone. Cheers!
Hopefully the Zone creation in Afghanistan will make sense. Just saying "Zone likes nukes lol" isn't a good idea.

Everybody knows that one needs more than irradiation. Like egg-heads tampering with the noosphere. Everybody knows. Except losers making jokes about Fukushima.
Agree. Everybody knows that one needs more than irradiation. Like egg-heads tampering with the noosphere. Everybody knows. Except losers making jokes about Fukushima.
Yea, but why Afghanistan of all places? I'm sure that no egghead would want to house dangerous research in a place that is crawling with terrorists. Why not East Germany or North Korea or even Japan, hell even Bosnia sounds well enough, but Afghanistan of all countries in the world?
To me, stalker is best played on med-low settings. For some reason, I really like early 3d graphics from N64 to about HL-2. The unrefined look leaves a lot up to the imagination and makes it all much more immersive.
I don't dislike the retro/dated graphics, but if a game is able to deliver good looking graphics, I'm gonna turn them on.
Yea, but why Afghanistan of all places? I'm sure that no egghead would want to house dangerous research in a place that is crawling with terrorists. Why not East Germany or North Korea or even Japan, hell even Bosnia sounds well enough, but Afghanistan of all countries in the world?
Because it's as much connected with the USSR as Chernobyl, and already has enough BTR and KAMAZ wrecks where stalkers can hide behind for a little guitar playing :) It's mainly the USSR connection that makes it more suitable for a novel based on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe, which is, as we know, almost entirely about the Ukraine/Russia. It's also certainly more mysterious than a European setting (Bosnia included). Afghanistan was always a bad place where only the toughest survive. Japan might be also an option, but a Zone setting after Fukushima would be imo plain exploitation of an ongoing tragedy.
There's always Kazahstan, and it's kind of better than Afghan because it was actually a part of USSR. But I see what you mean regarding other countries.
I guess in the STALKER 2 the setting is being more depressing with the zone starting to "spread" across the globe, zones appearing here and there everywhere, hinting and giving clues that if it continues, the zone eventually covers the whole planet. [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] Which will be end of our civilization, because you are not safe from anomalies even under the ground. Technological and industrial advancement comes to a grinding halt

At least at Termez air base :) [editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
I have doubts they'll pull that. Compared to that, Zonistan is hardcore lore...
Imagine, in the Russian book series there's a spin-off where mech-stalkers fight mech-mutants and teleport from one Zone to another. Compared to that, Zonistan is hardcore lore...
Holy shit they actually released that?
Holy shit they actually released that?
Yep.
Yep.
Oh my god what the fuck. Did they got a bunch of Russian FanFiction.net writers to write that shit?
Holy shit they actually released that?
The book publisher did. Saying that GSC is pissed off (and was ripped off too) would be an understatement. And in the German franchise - they hired a fantasy writer and gave him a dev code so that he could run up to the CNPP in god mode to get an idea what the game is about. But the funniest one is a Russian book which is about finding the protagonists kidnapped g/f who is a stripper and walks around in the Zone in stilettos and a latex outfit. Anyone else still wanna read that? LOL [editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
Oh my god what the fuck.
I have doubts they'll pull that. GSC said that The Zone outside of Chernobyl just isn't The Zone.
I'm certainly hoping that. They can deliver dramatic events without the whole "OMG, world is going to end!"-angle. In that sense I liked Call of Pripyat a lot. The game showed that you don't necessarily need to have a mega-epic ending like in Shadow of Chernobyl to come up with a satisfying Stalker game. Moreover, they didn't even have to mess too much with the C-Consciousness crap but the story still took a leap forward. e:
The book publisher did.
Ohhhh, that one that has a Dutyer and a stripper behind him on the book cover? I'd get it just to see how bad it is.
Yep, the Dutyer with the Dolph Lundgren face. And a Dutyer of all factions. I say it again: a Dutyer. Looking for a stripper.
Yep, the Dutyer with the Dolph Lundgren face. And a Dutyer of all factions. I say it again: a Dutyer. Last thing a real Dutyer would care about is a near-naked woman running around, he'd just regard it as a hallucination and go do his business.

I loved how the ending focused more on the characters than the C-Con thing and all. It's hard to tell anything new about C-Con and Noosphere after SoC, anyway. Somehow one would believe Dutyers have only destroying the Zone in mind, while the rest cares about other things as well. BTW, which Freedomer could resist Afghan grass anyway? Especially if the buds grow to incredible size, due to poliploidia... I mean, a variety is even called AK-47, and you still ask why the Afghan setting? Any Freedomer would know the answer to that :D
