I tried L.U.R.K but didn't like some of it's changes. For example, you can sell everything at insanely high prices, and buy some awesome weapons from the very first trader. There is no way to equip artifacts (not that I do often, but I like to have the choice), and the lack of a HUD is not my style. Also, the very first mission bugs out for me (meet Wolf's scouts). They go running in without even talking to me and all die. I can still complete the mission, but it was annoying. The bloom is a bit much too. Not unplayable, but definitely overdone.
I installed Stalker Complete and am preferring it much more. I also installed the realistic guns mod, which makes it much harder. Have to use stealth and approach quietly. One or two shots will kill you. Also, the sleeping bag is really handy.
Why kingo, why did you have to post that when I'm about to go to sleep, now i'll hear it all night,
why

So is this like, non-stop or say over a course of time. A lot of the mod's people play often make the game harder though...
Its not non stop, but those are the only games I'm going to be playing for a while.
I want mortars and fixed machineguns in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
They'd be awesome for stuff like defending encampments.
I hate shooting mortars, I never get the arc correctly and most likely I'd just get stalkers pissed at me when I blow up their stashes :saddowns:

That's why you need training.
Duty has a lot of ex-soldiers, so that wouldn't be a problem.
Just started playing Call of Pripyat.
You know what would be pretty cool, guys? More prototype weapons. Get some laser rifles up in this bitch.
And a poison gas grenade.
Tried to get SGM with BlackByte working. Epic fail. Such a pile of bug-ridden crap.
I'd think mortars would be pretty ineffective, both because a lot of the targets are too small and don't really ttavel in large hordes (other than the occasional boar horde or dog horde) and that the anomalies in the air would cause a lot of potentially lethal problems to the people using the mortar.
I've been playing SoC for around 5 hours straight now.
I think I'm addicted. :v:
8 Hours straight yesterday...

It clearly should be this.

Yet people use RPG's and helicopters once in a while.
We need landmines in Stalker. Seriously. And realistic fire physics. Oh god, imagine running in the middle of the zone, stopping to see the sun setting down, crawling inside a nearby cave, check ti for anomalies and mutant and then take out some dry grass and set it on fire. You then proceed to bask in its glow while silently munching on a piece of stale bread.
Or using a cocktail Molotov to light a Chimera, and watch while the creature lights a weak trail of grass on fire while jumping around.
Or burning a forest to the ground to kill the mob of zombies hiding there.
Or blocking the exists to a room with gasoline on fire, to kill them by smoke.
HNNNNNNG

Just play standard SGM. Merge it yourself with Atmosfear if you must, but don't use Blackshit

There are landmines, you just can't use them. At the military entrance to Cordon.

In the swamp near Freedom base, too.
In the swamp near Freedom base, too.
The mines are way to easy to spot though, maybe someone should add tripwires between the poles sticking out of them and tie grenades up, creating a chain reaction. I stepped on one to see how dangerous it was and I took less damage than I got from just getting shot with a pistol.

True enough, but you can see throughout the Zone that it was incredibly risky to go up in a helicopter. You would need an exact anomalies map before the last blowout, and you'd need a hell of a lot of luck.
I suppose they could do the same map thing that the military does for the helicopters to check a free trajectory for the mortar, but that both seems like too much work for an ineffective weapon (in the Zone), and I don't think Duty has that kind of map-making ability that the military does.

What's funny is that the "original" STALKER (Pre-SoC) concept stuff actually had fairly common helicopters.
Also, what is defined as the Zone? The part inside the military cordon? 'Cause that area is probably safe from anomalies.
Is there a red forest underground? If so how did I manage to miss it?

The zone expands after blowouts, which is cool but means Cordon isn't the entrance to the Zone any more.

Still, this is Duty we're talking about. They love stuff like Grenade Launchers and Flamethrowers, so why not 60mm and 84mm Mortars?
Heck, come to think of it, those would be great for the Barricade. Freedom would be able to even the odds a little with a couple mortars.
Or failing that, give them some tripod-mounted PKMs or DShKs.

Yeah, I think I remember you talking about that before.
The most vivid scene I think, for me, was when Redrick (was that his name?) entered the Zone in the boot, during Roadside Picnic.
(obviously S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't based directly off that book, but still)

Eh, maybe. But the only thing I could think to attack with mortars would be buildings, and I don't think they'd want to destroy a potential safe place in the Zone.
Urk, reformatting the synopsis of one of my fan fictions to send to Tarasov to review. Twenty two chapters to re-revise and format to a readable quality. This is taking hours.
Edit Edited out the ... for you Calkkuna.
I'm having a hard time choosing between Lurk and Complete

If your looking for realism on a higher level, more weapons and a different altogether stalker experience, play Lurk, if you just want the same game but an upgraded less glitch version that's exactly the same in gameplay regards (besides different trading, weapon repair and sleep) then go Complete. I recommend complete if you feel you liked the original but it was a bit iffy, lurk if you want more difficulty and immersion.

Lurk it is then.
You know, now that I think about it, a STALKER game on the Far Cry 2 engine might be pretty awesome. I would love the weapons to get the rust and jamming animations that were in FC2. It would look awesome too, and you would have forest fires break out in the middle of a gunfight, which would be fucking awesome.

RPS suggested this when FC3 was announced. I also agree that it would be an incredible game
However I also believe that STALKER isn't STALKER without the xray engine, and the various GSC exclusive weird shit. Also I can't even imagine STALKER with correctly proportioned player models
