That's what I was getting at. Of course you don't want to release a experimental test bed mod with no tangible substance.
But, if you're doing the coop thing I think it'd be kinda cool to allow fans to play earlier builds. You could build up a nice community around it and people might start making maps for it, thus providing more content (even if it's fan made). And all the while you could work the SP portion of the game while the community is busy with coop?
I'm not demanding anything, I'm just throwing out a suggestion and don't see why it couldn't at least be considered in the future. Didn't mean to start a back and forth about it. Again, sorry if I was callus earlier.

Yeah that's what I wanted to do. Get feedback maybe from around 50 or so testers. When I did the 1week mod it gave me a pretty good idea of how people respond to new games. For instance, I didn't have any ingame documentation/tutorials for that, so people had no idea what good weapons were and so forth, nor did they understand what generators did. Now I'm adding alot more hints and making it simple.

Definitely was not a fan of the sounds for the AK and the G3(?), they don't sound anywhere near 'gun-ish' enough to me.

the makarov is supposed to be the weirdest one, as it's a frankenstein of different guns being shot - a USP .45 being shot underwater, a normal makarov being fired, and a dash of AK.
why? because sometimes one source doesn't sound right by itself and i had to tinker with it a lot to get it to sound decent while still sounding like the gun i want it to sound like

the G3 and AK use just AK and G3 sources though
I think guns should have realistic recoil patterns. Like rifles recoiling right a bit and pistols left a bit (path of least resistance)

The OTs sounds a little like an MG-42, not that that's necessarily a bad thing, it just sounds a little heavy for the cartridge, especially when fired outdoors. (one of the tricky things with sound design is guns often sound a lot louder and heavier indoors when the waves have walls to bounce off and resonate and such, so the OTs sound in the video becomes a little less jarring when you move indoors briefly.)
The M-14 sounds a little low quality, as in it sounds like it was recorded with low quality gear. (like a phone) I'm sure you could retain the snappy effect you might be going for with the M-14 whilst also adding more of a bass thump to it, just to weight the effect more.
I like the AK sound but the drop off is a bit quick.
As for the G3 and Makarov though, really liking where these sounds are going!
Sorry for posting all this up when I wasn't even asked, I get a little OCD about sound design though and I think it's great when devs put as much thought in to how their mod sounds as much as how their mod looks.
Sound design is the most important part of shooting guns, IMO

Those weapons sound great. The only game I can think of that is able to make guns sound as good as that is Bad Company.

The AK sounds like the main part of it cuts out a bit too fast, the G3 doesn't sound quite powerful enough.
But you know, that's just my opinion.

Guns are loud, really fucking loud, louder that the effects in the video I posted. They are really "punctured eardrum" loud.
It's the movie and gaming industries that generated this distorted view about the sounding of weapons, that clear and clean "bang" sound does not exist in real life. that "Bang" just exists because It's just more appellative to the audiences.
