Have a button to kick instead of that weird knife animation. Would be a way neater melee, and it'd be able to open doors (and 'suprise' enemies) I also like the push animation idea.
How about the doors have no knobs and you push them open like in GTA :v:

I think that might work, as well as the ability to kick open doors when in more dangerous situations.
