I can't wait to put some shiny armor on, ride into town, and murder everyone.
My boxessss :v:
I don't think it's hard to get rid of them, gameplay wise.
Villager Bob: Hey man what're you doing with that TNT? You: um.. TNT: ssssssss Edit: Did anyone notice the second mushroom-tree in the background? And how dumb it looks?
At first I thought they were a new type of trees.
I hope the villagers can actually mine and build stuff, and not jump around like some random animal.
The village buildings look boring, if they were human made you would give the player advice on how to use more materials / interesting architecture. One way I feel Notch could improve this is more randomised nooks and crannies, towers or walls on the buildings, at the moment they are all cobblestone barns.
I hope the villagers can actually mine and build stuff, and not jump around like some random animal.
Which reminds me, cows can't even jump. Not like that anyway, they would need a run start. It's like all the animals in the game currently have a placeholder AI script, which is sad because dogs have it too and love to fall off cliffs.
Someone else made a different version of the new npc : Looks better. He didn't used the whole textures because he didn't know where to put the remaining ones. Oh, and the texture file is called "silverfish". Silverfishes are insects that eat paper and wood :U
Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the mushroom trees. I'd say those are a work in progress.
He should put more work into the village buildings, I built this in 15 minutes and it looks better than that crap.
those cocks are going to eat all of our wood. That means no more trees, or wood houses when these are around :O
In fact, I'll consider it very likely that Notch will forget to test them properly, and they'll probably end up eating all the forests when 1.8 arrives.
He should put more work into the village buildings, I built this in 15 minutes and it looks better than that crap.
I think the buildings may be procedurally generated, not just picked from several possible premade houses. Procedurally generating something that complex would be pretty hard to do.
I think the buildings may be procedurally generated, not just picked from several possible premade houses. If he'd just create some rules governing different styles for the façade, sides, rear, roof and interior separately, how they are to be joined and similar things, it'd be a lot better and easier to manage/test, with just a little bit of extra coding effort.

I'm sure the end result would look a lot better, though the houses shown look 200% better than some "houses" I've seen.

Although I suppose some variety would be nice. I hope there are many combinations of communities with different building styles. Like some could be all in a circular pattern around some central obelisk thing, and they could be really untrusting while another community could be comprised of dirt hovels laid out in a disorganized fashion and they could be really friendly. I hope the extent of the variability is not simply left to a slight alteration in size.

If they really are going to be that small and hostile, it's going to be a giant pain trying to deal with a lot of them at once. Also I hope Notch has a sensible idea in mind when villages are spawned, I don't want to hear hundreds of death screams cause they spawned over a lava pit.
No, it's this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silverfish
Oh, I figured it was just a name, like the creeper. Oh well
I hope the villages will look better, have little roads connecting eachother and special buildings (market, church, blacksmith and so on). I also hope he improves the mushrooms a lot, since they're fucking ugly right now.
Added them to my "circle". :v:
Avatar fits.
In fact, I'll consider it very likely that Notch will forget to test them properly, and they'll probably end up eating all the forests when 1.8 arrives.
I bet he'll screw it up and they eat stone instead of wood. Suddenly, mines, mines everywhere.
An evil mob that attacks other evil/good mobs would be interesting. Using wooden stair blocks for roofs wouldn't hurt. Makes houses look less blockier. By the looks of it there might even be a chance that cobble stone will turn into mossy cobble stone over time when in contact with grass, like it's growing (look at the bottom of the houses).
If they really are going to be that small and hostile, it's going to be a giant pain trying to deal with a lot of them at once.
I hope you can just step on them to kill them, just like the bugs in Half-Life 1.
An evil mob that attacks other evil/good mobs would be interesting.
Like a vigilante?
If the villages are to be owned by pigmen, there should be a horde a zombies that usually invade the villages during certain nights, if a zombie kills a pigman, it would turn the pigman into an enraged zombie pigman, but it would burn away once dawn comes back.
I heard that it's coming 46 new stuff in 1.8
I heard that it's coming 46 new stuff in 1.8
source: https://plus.google.com/116872576248355504859/posts
The list of things we want to include in the Adventure Update is 46 lines long, excluding empty lines. :D
[editline]Idontknowwhattotypehere[/editline] Sprinting
So I added sprinting, just to try it out. Double tap forward to start running, like the fast jump move thing from Unreal, but it only works forwards, like sprinting in most modern FPS games. It felt slow and weird until I added a FOV change as well, but now it's fun and addictive. I feel like there needs to be a drawback to doing it, though, or you'll feel like you're wasting time when you're not sprinting.
How would I kill a 1x1 hostile mob in my mob farm? I'd have to add some form of lava blade. 1.8 is shaping up to be an interesting update.
