If you mean real as in the game, then yeah. The background is a HDRI I guess, which is why it looks so realistic.

Standard cars have a fairly low amount of polys. Premium cars have much much more, and photo travel mode renders them so they look extra sexy
considering the tracks are pretty blocky, there isn't much demand produced

Yup, this post nails it. Photo mode applies a large amount of AA and other filters once the picture has been taken. There's also pre-baked lighting in some of those environments if I remember correctly.

It's Playstation 3 in Photo Mode, so that image quality you'll only see if you take photos with the premium cars. In-game quality is still good and running at 60fps, but nowhere near as good as Photo Mode.
