Bring your heavy-hitters. Grunt is borderline indestructible, so he's a sure-fire options. I've also found Jack to be useful; her biotics are good for scattering large swarms.
I currently only have garrus, I am planning on getting Grunt next and then pretty much stick with Garrus and Grunt (Garrus with his sniper rifle, Grunt with his shotgun and me with an assault rifle) and then when I get legion I would swap out Garrus with Legion.

Jacks the physically weakest character in your squad though, isn't she?
Even on lower difficulties I found she kicks the bucket pretty easily
I'm currently starting a me2 (one of many it seems suddenly) and i'm playing as sentinel.
What should i take as weapon training on the collector ship, shotgun or assualt rifle?
Also, they really need to give pistols more ammo.

Indeed. Her, Tali, Miranda, and Mordin are easily shredded due to obvious reasons.

Handcannons are sort of like Revolvers. Do a lot of damage, low clip size (In reference to the Revolver). More of a backup weapon when you've nothing left. As a senty, you'll have to do that plenty of times.
Oh, and go Assault Rifle. You're not built for close combat so its better to do shit at a range than upclose with your face being torn off by heavy fire. Should be relying on powers more than weapons really. Biotic speaking here. Weapons are nice to use when waiting for the cooldown to finish or you can accurately drop a guy from where you're standing. (Or if you don't feel like smashing him with a power :v: )
Miranda is interesting as a squadmate because she can provide a health boost to everyone and her powers are rather useful.

Yep. I take Jack because she can use her wave to knock most enemies off the platform you are on. Grunt is a good bullet sponge.

Indeed. I usually keep her around due to the squad boosts she offers. In reference to the Collector mission, she's physically weak since she just wears that thin ( :q: ) clothing.
Legion is weird because his shield boost makes him only slightly less tough than grunt, and that widow is always handy.
Also, how do I get the geth pulse riffle again?

I usually go with grunt+legion, works wonders.
Revenant is awesome as fuck.
I find it very silly that the GETH party member is incapable of using a GETH built shotgun.
I like scrambling my party members around for each mission.
