I would disagree; the whole point of the separation of Paragon from Renegade was to make it so you could, when appropriate, utter a badass line without fear of not getting enough good guy points for later on. Charm and intimidate facilitated this. Their removal in ME2 resulted in needing to grind speech checks in one direction if you wanted to have a full crew compliment by the end.

Which was infuriating, I'd like to add.

It's a semi transparent bar with poled opposites. Not terribly hard to fetch what the visual implementation is going to look like, unless you simply prefer whining for its own sake, never mind most of the complaints are the bog standard OMG RENEGAYDES AM BE PUNISHED WITH TEH MINUSESEES that permeates here and BSN; wasn't aware a strong red line on the bottom half of the indicator was a punishment.
