So after I restored my deleted city (probably because I linked it with neighboring areas), whenever I try and restore the file and then load the region, the site says I deleted it.
I think certain zones are bugged. It's most obvious when there's a blank zone in the middle of some huge city zones. I've tried to build in a couple before, or just terraform them. They just seem to get deleted automatically. Probably has something to do with the region having something saved there but the save files have been deleted/corrupted so it doesn't show them but won't allow other things to occupy that space. You could try downloading the backed up file and importing it to another zone?
That doesn't make any sense, though. The only thing that makes up region.ini is the dimensions. There's no file that stores what region is/is not occupied, which is why conflictions happen so often. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] And I keep deleting files every time I open the region. I have no idea what is going on.
But if one of the other files in the region folder isn't loading properly (Is corrupt) the file could still be registering as being a city occupying that space, even if there isn't one there. So is preventing anything else from remaining there. Pulling this out of my arse though, either way some zones are broken. Is your region fully synced? If you just joined the dropbox you have to give it a while to download everything. If not you could be mangling stuff badly.
i wonder how big the region will get when its full... i just hope it doesnt go over my 2.2 gb dropbox limit

[editline]8th July 2011[/editline] So I waited 7 minutes since dropbox stopped raining a downpour of "file added to dropbox! click to view" desktop messages, so I'm thinking you're onto something, cheese. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Except now, when I load the region, the only file that gets deleted is my own. Very strange.
so how long does it take to get the invite? just curious
Depends on when Binladen is on. You have to include your dropbox e-mail in the PM or he'll just ignore it.
im loving this seaport mod [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] i want to make my own region (the size of the facepunch one) all flat, but i dont know how to do it, anyone know?
Shamelessly stolen from SA's SC4 thread :v: [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Also I picked up Cities XL 2011 during the sale and while its not super shitty like Societies it defiantly does not fill the void were Sim City 5 should be.
I can never seen any trains on the map even though the train station says its being used at like 10% capacity nm
just found my sim city 3000 disk, installed it and nostalgia'd all over my screen
Perfect timing, I find out about this right after I get Sim City 4, and also right after my main HD crashes.
I can never seen any trains on the map even though the train station says its being used at like 10% capacity nm
are you running in hardware mode?
I can never seen any trains on the map even though the train station says its being used at like 10% capacity nm
Thanks to the massive highway network trains are practically never used, it's likely not worth placing them anymore. I'm having a traffic related problem too, in one of my large cities I checked the traffic reports and everything everywhere was perfectly clear - even the main freight roads out of town. I think one of the traffic mods I have might be breaking everything. Can't be NAM surely since that's so widely used and wouldn't break what it's supposed to improve, heard of something like it happening with the bus/subway stops 'on' roads and streets, but I haven't placed any of those. Rush Hour missions never show up either - apart from in one of my cities. Also I couldn't help but notice some people are spamming money cheats and building vast cities which can't support themselves at all, which is screwing up the demand for everything across the region - especially residential.
thats what im doing, i didnt know it had an effect on everything else... sorry :( i just like to build good looking cities and not worry about the money side of things
Yeah please. As a note to everyone who uses game breaking mods and cheats, please do not as it ruins it for everyone else. It isn't that hard to build a self sufficient city, just build slowly.
Here's a prime example: No income. All residential. Residential demand for the entire region is now fucked up entirely. Good job. Stop.
Then make some offices or industry :v:
What's the point? It takes like 4 zones of solid non-cheat achieved high density commercial to make up for bullshit like that. Going by stuff like this and the huge eyesore custom tower he had Wake seems to be doing shit like this on purpose.
OF COURSE my shit still isnt getting saved

I think we just need to start the region over. And in the op include a strict no cheat and no outside mod rule so that we can all have reasonable successful cities.
I disagree on the no mods part, NAM, despite me only using a few parts of it, has proven to be extremely useful for me. I think those kinds of fuck-ups only work in close proximity to themselves, search other parts of the region for empty areas, RCI demand should be fine there.
I think we just need to start the region over. And in the op include a strict no cheat and no outside mod rule so that we can all have reasonable successful cities.
Mods aren't a problem unless they're cheat mods, but I agree. Maybe not start over but instead have an alternate (Smaller?) region for people who want to play without cheats. That way we can enjoy the game as it is supposed to be while they can still have fun building huge non-functional but pretty/themed/whatever cities.
I didn't mean no mods. I meant no mods outside of the ones that have been approved by the community for the collab. Such as the autosaver and NAM
Are all cities connected in some way? Or only cities you're directly connected too.
Are all cities connected in some way? Or only cities you're directly connected too.
You can make your city independent just by removing all connections such as roads, trains and seaports.
If I'm not mistaken, seaports are only for shipping, they provide no transportation whatsoever, unless you build ferries, then they may seek other cities, I'm not sure.
I think seaports handle only freight (Which can then go anywhere with any freight connections if it's for neighbor deals) and ferries handle only passengers for employment and customers and connect to anywhere else with a ferry terminal as indicated by traffic view on the region map.
