Craft Wars - A WIP texture pack based around the Star Wars Universe.

[QUOTE=Rammlied;28961222]Aren't you a little too boney to be a trooper?
And it is really cool, but since there are so many different areas in minecraft and only so many blocks, its kinda hard for a universal star wars pack, still cool.
Also, if you made the nether like a moon or something, changed ghasts to tie fighters and pigmen to some sort of space jet fighter, I would climax right there.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, we already went over that, and decided it should probably be considered an "Inspired By" pack than a Universal Pack.
But that is a very interesting idea for the Ghasts.... I was originally thinking of using a probe droid, but I suppose a Tie Fighter might work slightly more effectively.
[IMG]http://www.technovelgy.com/graphics/content08/snomote-probe-droid.jpg[/IMG]
I do think it looks more similar to a Ghast, but we'll see.

Is it possible to change my Thread Title, by the way?

Probe droids are an awesome idea.
If you made the gold sword a red lightsaber, the pigmen could be sith, but from the looks of it you're focusing on the original trilogy stuff :v:

I am, but that's really because they're more iconic in terms of designs than the Prequels. I like the idea, but I think I'll stick with the idea we have just now.
If that doesn't look good though, I'll change it :v:

Does anyone know why my Bacta Tank Mob Spawner still has solid colour glass when I set the Opacity at 60%?

I figure pigmen could probably be wookies or something.
Friendly looking and won't be aggressive unless you attack him.

Balls. How come Ice is semi transparent then?
[editline]3rd April 2011[/editline]
Is it possible then to make white wool and just copy paste that and somehow change the colour each time, without redrawing the pattern?
i like the idea, lets hope you can pull it off

its a scripted block

im gueeig you should jsut piant in manually.
To be honest, it's looking great so far. Just fix that grass; It's WAY too bright.

Make the pattern transparent around the edges (If that makes sense), and just paste it over the different colours.
It may not [i]scream[/i] "STAR WARS!" when you look at it, but I think this is looking really nice so far and you should definitely keep continuing in this direction.

Copy and paste it into a new window, then:
1. Duplicate the original layer (so you still have white wool)
2. Go to, I believe, Image->Adjustments at the top and change the Hue
3. Copy and Paste the contents of Layer 2 back into Terrain.png
Repeat Steps 1-3.

And Moisture Vaporators instead of Cactuses!

Not star wars ish at all.
Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but this would work a hundred times better if you'd stick to a single location/planet in the star wars universe to draw inspiration from. Like, make a Tatooine texture pack, or a Death Star one.

It has, numerous times. We've decided it should be considered inspired by than a straight copy of specific locals.

Also, thanks, good idea! :v:
To fix the wool problem, just use dyes :v:
Here's an example of Sandstone, tried to make it look like the stone the Lars Homestead is made of, with marks and dirt on it:
[IMG]http://i.cubeupload.com/pp3wrq.png[/IMG]
The Stone Sword is now an Ewok Spear:
[IMG]http://i.cubeupload.com/1fBlmz.png[/IMG]
And the Music Blocks are now Gonk Droids:
[IMG]http://i.cubeupload.com/9zn20a.png[/IMG]
I tried showing you a lightsaber, but I couldn't find any Diamond and I don't use Invedit, so you'll have to see it when you make one :v: (If you decide you like the pack enough to use it!)
Anyway, that's terrain.png now finished (Except cake, as I couldn't think of what it could be, so please offer any suggestions) and I'll be moving onto Mobs and Items which I hope will make it all more Star Wars-y in feeling.
The Darth Vader pumpkin may be my favorite part of a pack ever.
Can we get some wider shots of repeating blocks, like cobblestone and wood walls? I just want to see how noisy those textures are at a range.

Sure thing. It'll have to be later, busy day today.
[QUOTE=dookster;28950768]I decided it could be a fun and engaging project for myself to create my own texture pack for Minecraft, and what better source for inspiration than Star Wars? I plan on changing every texture in game, minus fire, water and lava, using a variety of styles from both the Original Trilogy and the Prequals.
However, what I've found is, it's pretty difficult making everything Star Wars based, especially when it's so ambiguous for certain blocks, such as Dirt and Sand. So I'll be looking for suggestions from members here as to what I could for certain blocks.
I've gotten started and am about just over a quarter of the way through the Terrain textures:
[U]
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/dppyRx.png[/img_thumb][/U]
The windows are based on Tie Fighter windows, or perhaps the huge one behind The Emperor on the Death Star:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/Bpgtea.png[/img_thumb]
The work bench:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/ZS8VUl.png[/img_thumb]
Since wooden structures aren't common place in Star Wars, usually, I had to kind of make it up for wooden planks:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/u1pn91.png[/img_thumb]
The chest. I've tried to get the sort of "been used a ton" feel of the Star Wars universe with the chipped and faded paint and surfaces:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/xyHt8s.png[/img_thumb]
Sand, Grass and Dirt. I think I'll tone down grass though:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/tptPWh.png[/img_thumb]
Saplings, with their own little moisture farms:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/c83NWf.png[/img_thumb]
Trees. I figure I'll base these on Dagobah, Endor and maybe Kashyyyk trees:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/tW7Wsy.png[/img_thumb]
Cobble Stone. Look fucking 'orrible. I was thinking of going for a Naboo kind of thing, but it doesn't look nice at all.
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/My5056.png[/img_thumb]
Yellow flowers:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/52kV9c.png[/img_thumb]
Gravel:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/OT2EQH.png[/img_thumb]
Mossy Cobblestone. I think I'll make regular cobblestone this, without the moss, obviously:
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/mUIaRt.png[/img_thumb]
And Smoothstone.
[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/yowUGU.png[/img_thumb]
I've changed a bunch of other things, but I couldn't find them or make them yet in game, so you can see them in the terrain file.
Some I have thought about though, will be the Death Star as the Moon, Tatooine's Suns for the Sun, an AT AT for cows, Bantha for sheep, Storm Troopers for Skeletons, Sand People for Zombies and Landspeeders for Minecarts.
So basically, what I'd like from you lot is criticism, suggestions and ideas for other aspects. There is so much stuff in the Star Wars Universe that there is definitely stuff that I wont have thought of, for blocks I'm struggling to think of a replacement for.
(I noticed Brain Tumor's Steampunk WIP thread hadn't been closed so I figured it'd be okay for me to make a separate thread for this)
Keep in mind, this is my first ever attempt at a Texture Pack.[/QUOTE]
how do i get this texture pack?
Are you planning to replace the wolves and slimes with anything?
Just curious as to what you would do with them.
Also a slight shame I can't think of anything to replace Ewoks with, due to how easily they could otherwise had fit in the Minecraft theme. Didn't they have a lot of wood structures though?
I mean, if you needed an inspiration for how things built with wood looks like in Star Wars.
[editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
Also... how do you plan on changing the nether?
If you were going with the Wookie idea then perhaps you could try make it look like their planet (although I'm not fanatic enough of a fan to know what that might look like :v:)

Here's a Vista for you to judge, taken in Glitchman's server. Looking at it like this, I'd say I should tone down the grass a bit more again:
[img]http://i.cubeupload.com/c7Ya8q.png[/img]
However, I think buildings look pretty good:
[img]http://i.cubeupload.com/i3FyI0.png[/img]
And personally, I think it's beginning to look pretty Star Wars-ish:
[img]http://i.cubeupload.com/Ylo5Fs.png[/img]
Also, Lightsabre:

Does Minecraft use different grass textures for different biomes now?
If it doesn't just alter the color slightly, then I believe this color would probably be rather fitting the swamp areas.
To me it does however looks a bit dark for normal grassland.
[editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
I do agree about the complexity though.
[editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
On an unrelated note, I must also say that I love your new trees.

Thanks! And yes, it changes depending on what biome you're in, so swamp land is kind of brown while plains are greener, etc.
In answer to your other questions, I plan on making Slimes mini Hutts, as in "Jabba The". Wolves, I'm not so sure about, as nothing immediately jumps out at me, minus this guy -
[img]http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100125182057/starwars/images/thumb/b/b9/Nexu-SWM80.jpg/613px-Nexu-SWM80.jpg[/img]
And I agree about Ewoks. I pondered Creepers, but that would just seem odd.
As for the Nether, I've kind of gone for an Asteroid Interior look, with grey stone, pocked with Craters. The Wookie Homeworld wouldn't fit unfortunately, but someone suggested the Zombie Pigmen be Wookies, thanks to the fact they're peaceful unless provoked, which I like. It would be handy if Notch ever puts ordinary Pigmen in, with Baby Pigmen, which I could turn into Ewoks :v:
I suggested the Pigmen as Wookies :v:
I'm just not sure how well that would look on an asteroid, then again I too can't imagine a lot of other things fitting both Pigmen and the Nether (since they unfortunately live in the nether, which is rather odd for creatures that aren't hostile unless attacked).
Those creatures you suggested as wolves seem like a very good idea, and it only remains to see how you'll handle mini hutts (I imagine they could look quite cool in their larger sizes).
[editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
Creepers too seem like a rather odd case, perhaps they could be malfunctioning droids?
[QUOTE=dookster;28968299]Does anyone have any advice concerning my Wool problem? I'm using Photoshop.[/QUOTE]
Colourise tool? Or whatever the equivalent in photoshop is, I use GIMP.
Also, beds look like cakes (:v:) and you need windows in your doors.
The grass is really bad, too high contrast. Everything else is looking sort of ok, although I'd urge you to move over to 32x32 if you're skilled as it will allow a lot more flexibility in making it feel like star wars.
Also thanks to you I'm gona have to install Jedi Academy for the millionth time.

I've found a solution to Wool, and it's done thanks  I don't [i]need[/i] them in doors, and to be honest I quite like them without windows!

Yeah, the Grass is bugging me as I can't seem to get it looking right. I didn't want to 32X32 chiefly because I don't know how well I'd pull it off, and secondly because I wasn't sure how much faff there would be in getting it work with MCPatcher. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult but I wanted to make one that people could just install off the bat.
Oh, and I've found I don't really enjoy higher resolution packs. I like the simplicity of the 16X16 packs.

That's an awesome idea for a Creeper. Perhaps C3PO?
Or this bad ass:
