This doesn't actually prove or disprove anything. Unless you happen to know some serious tricks with Portal 2/Source Film Maker/you happen to be a 3D animator, it's going to be very tough to stand out with in-game videos.
On editing: There were a couple of spots where you'd fade to another shot, which felt out of place as the majority of your shots were simply cuts — Consistency was lost. And the rapid cuts (during the choruses) are paced too quickly, it's a bit of an information overload.
On the ending: Invest in a tripod, or something to keep the camera stable. Try to color correct the shots as well, it's too yellow in comparison to the game shots.
Personally, I don't like that the video shows half of everything throughout Portal 2. It means that people who have yet to play the game will have the reveal of these areas spoiled. I know it's a music video for a song in a video game, but there's little indicator that the viewer is going to see scenes from the entire game.
I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, just thoughts and opinions.
Yeah I wish I had a tripod. I'll work on the color correction too.
I'll put a warning before the video about spoilers too. With the cuts, I tried to make it work with the music, but I'll see how it looks without fades. Thanks for the input

Here's the instant win formula for this Portal 2 music video contest: get a dingy orange jumpsuit and record yourself wandering around some dilapidated structures pretending to be Chell among the ruins of Aperture Science. If you're a dude, just try to look girly or something.
Or get a labcoat, grow a beard, and stumble around in shadowy offices.
...Hey, I should totally make this.

Alternate version: try to look like a manly Chell
Not mine but hilarious

So much meaning
If I made an animated video with this type of style would anyone be interested in watching it?

I wanna make a video but I don't wanna put a lot of time into something that has no chance of winning

So long as you have fun doing it I don't see why not
Well here's what I've been working on, if you see something that doesn't look right let me know (of if you have any other suggestions)

No offense, but I'm finding the still picture, fade in, fade out, next still picture thing overdone. Yours has a few animations but I'm getting a bit tired of it, no offense intended to anyone.

Na it's fine I'm not that original / good with photoshop.

At 3:33, it's not immediately clear that her rest chamber isn't active — I'd suggest using an image that shows her lights dimmed, if possible. And the music fades out at the very end, instead of letting the tail play out to silence.
Otherwise I've gotta give you props for going to the effort of cutting it all apart and trying to arrange it this way. Regardless of how good you are with the tools, it's a large and time-consuming task. Good on you for sticking to it.
May do this after exams.
I got a draft of the first minute's in-game shots done for my video. With any luck I'll be able to get all the actual filming done, record the final in-game stuff, and start editing by July 1st.
Got all my filming done finally. Here's a screencap from the stuff we filmed today.

Im currently working on one, just finished shooting this weekend, now a I have a metric shit tonne of editing to do. I'm really trying hard to make it as good as possible. Will post a photo soon.
The saddest part about going through this thread was realizing how many of these entries will be "noclipping through scenes in Portal 2."

I went through all of the entries on youtube yesterday. At least 80% of them are just that. :suicide:

Yeah, like not being skilled (for example, being able to make a typography or animation), not having proper tools (the average person only has Windows Movie Maker for video editing), and of course not being very creative.

That is actually a good idea but you could only do that for maybe 30sec-1min then need to come up with something else. Depending on what else you think up, what you mentioned could work well in the beginning or end of the video, hell, both even.
Oh my god editing music videos is the worst thing ever. The song is just repeating over and over again all day! It's like I am becoming Rattmann myself.
Just use a different song. That's what I did. The rules don't say you can't use something else.
Just use a different song. That's what I did. The rules don't say you can't use something else.
To really set you apart from the competition you should use smooth jazz.
Just use a different song. That's what I did. The rules don't say you can't use something else.
And once again Marphy's video completely decimates the competition. Maybe you'll finally win this one instead of just being an honorable mention! :buddy:
So i got tired of editing the video and decided to make a little teaser poster type thing. Hope you guys like it. And yes that is me.
