I hate how in RO would you find a spot with panzershrecks everybody that passes through there will grab all of the panzershrecks to probably die in a matter of seconds or basically forgetting he has them. I always pick up one and that's it.
Eugh, Tank battles are so boring, it's all about intense infantry combat.
tank battles can be just as intense.
Don't know if it was posted already but if you haven't heard the music samples for RO2 you should there damn amazing. Sam Hulick made the soundtrack who also worked on Mass Effect 2s soundtrack. When it will be released the soundtrack will be apparently 90 minutes long and will be available when the game is released.

I love how I can crash on both DH and RO on custom maps because I somehow "Ran out of virtual memory".
Anyone got a solution for this?

Well I found this http://forums.darkesthourgame.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=5138&start=0, but I doubt you want to uninstall both ro and dh and reinstall them.
Uhm, I changed almost all the controls thanks, I'd always thought there was never a thing for that.
He's probably thinking of the "local" VOIP channel in the game. It lets you talk so that everyone within a certain radius can hear you.
I'd always wanted to get the first one, but kept putting it off.
Is it good? Do people still play it?
(Will they kill me (chew me out) for being a beginner?)

Yeah it seems like it's a common crash after the latest update. If you have 4gb or more, try this: http://jollyrodgersdarkesthour.clanservers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2125. Tried it myself and haven't had a crash since.
tank battles can be just as intense.
For a mediocre tank player it's pretty much the ones that shoot the first shot that wins because it's a one-shot one-kill
tank battles can be just as intense.
In my experience tank battles are either woefully boring, or intense as fuck, there's no in between. I feel the problem is when people make "combined arms" maps that are actually "tankers get cumstains on their pants while infantry sit around with their thumb up their ass waiting for a map change", which was a problem at times in Project Reality too on certain maps.
Yeah nothing better than being in a tank on a combined arms map.
I'm a bit late to the party, but that trailer looked awesome!

Yes you should get it, red orchestra is simply amazing with immersion and realism, but don't go thinking it is basically ARMA 2 as everything is easier to perform so it would be easy to learn. There are quite a few full servers all the time and the net code in RO is amazing as in if you see only the European servers or the Russian server up join it. I have no problems playing with even over 200 ping as thats the way the netcode is designed.
It might be frustating in the beginning for a bit being a beginner but give it some time and you will get used to it, I thought the same thing when I bought RO last summer but now after playing for awhile (127 hours) a lot of the times I am near or at the top of the list.
The community is also split in half with the original game and the mod Darkest Hour which you should also download (you can find it on steam) as it is like night and day with the differences between the 2 and is amazing in it's own right. The community is also fantastic so don't expect to go in there and yelled at as soon as you start for being new.
There are also a lot of people in this thread who play the game a lot so if you think you need some help getting used to the game and knowing about the mechanics then send a msg to someone and you'll probably get someone to help you out.
Just remember when your playing it's the complete opposite of modern shooters, lone wolf and do your own thing will get you killed while working as a team you can easily win and be careful when playing as usually 1-2 shots mean a kill.

Public Red Orchestra sucks, and public Darkest Hour is alright, I'd say wait for RO2 because you probably won't enjoy the original that much. People won't get on you for being a beginner because 90% of the public players seem to be noobs. Atleast this is how I'm experiencing it.

It is a good game, used to be great fun, the realism clans are brilliant, it's awesome because of that but I can't glorify it as a casual, realistic fps game.

Oh god yes!
I wonder why people don't play Mare Nostrum. It's quite enjoyable, and tank battles are fun, giving you a break from the generic Tiger vs T34 battles.

The way I see it is that the only reason Darkest Hour has a lot of people is because of the 29th keeping it alive, if the 29th only played Mare Nostrum then the situation would probably be reversed with darkest hour almost dead. The reason I say almost dead is because half of the dedicated people on there for some reason hate RO and RO2 and think darkest hour is their lord or something.
if you find tank battles boring it's probably because you suck at them.
That said combined infantry & tank is the best, so tanks have to watch out for infantry and infantry have to watch out for tanks.
Good times were had with me and my two friends. Sitting a tank. Three idiots on a massive battlefield.
"OH GOD THERE HE IS!"
"WHER-"
"SHOOT HIM ALREADY!"
"AAAAAA-" *Tank explodes*

Or you just find sitting in a spot waiting for enemies boring :downs:
I prefer close contact
lol
"if u dont like something ur just bad @ it"
Hopefully the Vietnam mod won't just be all fucking tropical jungle.
Be nice to see some urban fighting, which there was a fair amount of in Vietnam. Swamps, rice paddies, mountain villages etc. There's some really varied terrain there that an enterprising mapper could come up with great ideas for.

Then get close contact, it's really not hard to drive right up next to somebody in the light tanks.
The people who "hate tanks" are the people who hop in a tank by themselves, drive off to the nearest highly exposed hilltop, then complain when somebody perforates them.

"if u dont like something ur just bad @ it"
Yes, most of the time that's true.
If you're getting absolutely pummeled, the chances are the people who are winning are having a lot of fun at your expense.
Guy 1: "Whoa man, check that shot out, just blew up Guy 2 with one shot!"
Guy 2: *Ragequit*

If a tank is well implemented in an infantry map, you usually wont even notice them. Rakowice and hedgehog are good examples of combined arms IMO. The tanks and infantry will often duke it out, but the tanks don't really play a particularly obnoxious role.
The worst combined arms maps are the ones where theres 5-10 tanks, half the people hop into tanks and the other half are stuck dredging the game out as infantry, ala Arad or Ogledow.
I've always seen Arad as a tank map. I've seen a few servers where a few guys go in as infantry, but unless they're a good AT player, the tanks will wipe the floor with them.

satchel charges + overpowered clown car (at the time) = tank rape
Honestly Arad is a tank map layered upon an infantry map, both levels coexist quite separately in the map. Infantry go for the villages and fight there, tanks camp in the fields. Whether or not anyone actually captures anything is unrelated.
