I'm looking forward to more Red Orchestra, but am somewhat concerned by the implication of some of the changes that it's going to be more game-y and less of a simulation.
How exactly? everything shown so far looks like it will be way more simulation then the original.
Dumb soldier might want to close he bolt before he fires.
I'm pretty sure he just fired
This part was certainly quite interesting, now I'm even more pumped for hosting a server :v:
I would suggest joining the live broadcast then, considering you would be able to ask them about certain features and asking if they can add any. But the broadcast it's self is to lure more of the BF/CoD or other game clans to get them interested into playing RO2 competitively Also here is Alans weekly post, we will be getting a lot of info from PC Gamer in the coming weeks about RO2, hopefully some new screen shots, info or hopefully a god damn HD gameplay trailer.
Yes, it is that time of the week again. Yes, Evan Lahti (and a camera crew) were over here in Atlanta this week to film some interview material. Rona (their producer) was wishing for sweet tea, heat and a good storm, seeing they don't get any of that in San Fran. She got sweet tea with her lunch, temp pushing past 90 in the afternoon - and a hefty Atlanta storm in the evening. Officially about 1.5 inches of rain in a 2-3 hour period, but it felt like more. So everyone was happy. Except my daughter, who was supposed to be starting training for track with a new club. It was cancelled, otherwise it would be swim training, not track. Evan tweeted some comment about announcements very soon - he's right, of course. E3 is out of the way, Riccitiello and Kotick are slanging each other's companies again, EA are pointing fingers (VERY bizarrely) at Valve - and now it will be our turn to actually put out GOOD news. Starting next week... the sort of news gamers like to hear, not the garbage that belongs in a crap reality TV show. PC Gamer are lining up a stack of material for RO fans over the next couple of months - but you'll have to bother them about that - so go pester on the PCG forums! Competitive gaming: some of you have spotted (and it has now been highlighted elsewhere on the forums - see this thread HERE) that we are holding a TS conference, hosted by nKM of Rush Zone, for a bunch of comp/pro gamers from the BF and CoD worlds. It will be moderated etc. For the RO faithful, there probably won't be anything new from our side - but a lot of this will be new for the guys coming in. Part of it is just the thought of the devs actually talking to them, maybe even listening Fell free to stick your heads in, but keep in mind that it will be moderated and may also be limited on numbers, in which case some people may be botted to make room for the intended audience of new warm bodies (who don't know us well enough to love us yet). Just thinking of Evan, he jumped onto the beta test late yesterday. I didn't hear his reaction, but I shouold have logged one comment - "Alan is a hero". We were playing Countdown, our team pushing for the second-to-last Objective, out of reinforcements and going down steadily. I'd headed out for a run round the left flank, then cut back. Caught two of the enemy trying to push out and take down the remainder of our team. Cut left into a building and caught another. Upstairs for one more. Back down and through the ground floor route. Into the building behind the objective, shot another in the back, up the stairs. About to reload, turn around to find Keith (Swag) in my face from nowhere - and got my first melee kill. He swears he shot my head off, but the server clearly thought differently. Just reloaded in time to hip-shoot another one, before finally getting nailed from somewhere I didn't see. Apparently, I only had 6 more to kill for the win...

I'm pretty sure he just fired
Well then why is the bolt up, both hands holding the rifle, and he is still (trying to) aiming down the sights?
Well then why is the bolt up, both hands holding the rifle, and he is still (trying to) aiming down the sights?
Because he just fired...., I do that sometimes in RO also sometimes when there is no one else around. The German soldier probably just surprised him and he just fired that second, I doubt he fired 40 minutes ago and is just standing there.
Now, THIS is a PC Game.
Dumb soldier might want to close he bolt before he fires.
You know what they say. If you make something idiot proof, someone is going to make a better idiot.
Now, THIS is a PC Game.
This, it's going to be amazing having all these PC features actually getting worked on, even for the competitive community and how most of the features are whats wanted by the community not "hurrr this will sell way more this way and take less time" instead of streamlining and making everything one way to make more money, they spend their time making either options for people who want the most realistic experience and options for the new guys like CoD or BF guys (basically the Relaxed Realism and the Realism features that are currently in RO2) or if they decide not to make 400 options they try to lure them in to their advanced game mechanics and try to get them to like what the game has to offer instead of ripping the game appart to cater to another crowd to try to make more money. Also since the broadcast is over there is some new information, I have a couple of things that was siad in the forums but the recorded version should be up tommorow. -Basically they might include crosshairs, for anyone thinking this is the wrong direction, even if they do they will be resembling ARMA 2s crosshair. This is basically the anti cheat that's going to be implemented: VAC+PB+Streaming by PBBans+dedicated team to tackle any cheat left, so we have VAC banning long term, Punkbuster banning fast and there will be a dedicated team to make sure no cheat is left un touched. No hackers running around going "hurrr VAC and punkbuster cant stop me, I'm invincible" plus remember to make sure your experience is moron free they have included a system where if your a griefer or a team killer (one that does it purposely obviously) you will not be able to join the normal servers and will have to play on other servers with griefers and team killers until you learn how to play properly. then you will be allowed to join the normal servers again. So basically put, Tripwire is making sure your game is perfect with no retards ruining it. Also for anyone worrying about punkbuster not working with the steam overlay, they have a developer going to the Tripwire offices tomorrow to 100% make sure that this version of punkbuster that they are getting will be 100% compatible with the steam overlay. Really that's it so far until we get the recording with the full details.
Because he just fired...., I do that sometimes in RO also sometimes when there is no one else around. I don't remember their reason though.
Why can't this be out sooner? :frown:
Godamnit, Punkbuster is a piece of shit. Still, I doubt it'll diminish the game in any way.
Godamnit, Punkbuster is a piece of shit. Still, I doubt it'll diminish the game in any way.
Errr... where do you see that this game has punkbuster? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm actually asking. I haven't seen the announcement anywhere.
Godamnit, Punkbuster is a piece of shit. Still, I doubt it'll diminish the game in any way.
They are making sure though that it will work, not like BF2 where it would kick and ban you for nothing, besides providing 3 ways to catch hacks and cheaters and bringing a punkbuster dev in they are making sure that punkbuster is going to work properly and that there will be no issues.
Like what?
Last I saw, there was stuff like bandaging yourself in a few seconds to stop a wound, and some kind of last stand mode, both of which seemed very 'gamey'. To be fair I haven't been following the game especially closely so I don't know how it's shaped up in the last six months.
Last I saw, there was stuff like bandaging yourself in a few seconds to stop a wound, and some kind of last stand mode, both of which seemed very 'gamey'. To be fair I haven't been following the game especially closely so I don't know how it's shaped up in the last six months.
Bandaging is more realistic then how it was in the original, basically in the original if you got shot in a non fatal area you would bleed for the whole time until you died or until it just stopped. So you would be running around with this trail of blood following you as you would have gallons of blood spill out really. So what bandaging does is if your shot in a non fatal area (again non fatal, meaning it is not a save your ass mechanic as "oh no I got shot in the head, ill just bandage my self",) instead of running around with gallons of your blood spilling you have to bandage it up or else you will die from blood loss. The old way with running around and losing all your blood but still going was arcade basically, this takes it into a whole new simulation level, also you only have a limited number of bandages so you can't do it all the time (where would you get all that cloth?) About the last stand mode, that also is realistic as say you got shot in a fatal area but are losing blood to quickly to heal your self and you think it would be better instead to be "well I'm losing a lot of blood, I can either try to bandage my self and I might die or I can use my last amount of blood and my last breath to take one last shot and kill an enemy or the guy that shot me" This again mind you is your losing a lot of blood and your about to die, meaning this "last stand mode" will only last a couple of seconds, not like CoD where you can walk across the whole map. I'm also pretty sure (not 100% sure) that the screen will also change into black and white while this happens so it won't be pretty easy, either way your probably dead. So basically I hope that clears up the confusion you had about if them being to "gamey" and shows that if anything they bring a whole new level of simulation to the game. If you have any of mechanics you need clearing on, just ask.
yes but "non fatal" could have extremely different effects based on where you got shot. For example if you got gut shot you could take days to die, but you aren't going to be moving anywhere.
I'm just not sold on the last stand thing. I envision going into a room, shooting someone, and having them fall to the ground, pull out a pistol, and shoot me before I realize what happened- not at all realistic, given that most people who suffer mortal wounds are more interested in hanging on to life than shooting back.
Not everyone has a pistol in Red Orchestra. The last stand happens when you kill someone, but not with enough force to drop them instantly, say for example getting shot in the groin.
Godamnit, Punkbuster is a piece of shit. Still, I doubt it'll diminish the game in any way.
^ gaybaby crying because he would get booted by punkbuster in Project Reality after 30 minutes of us berating him over microphones Good times.
I'm just not sold on the last stand thing. I envision going into a room, shooting someone, and having them fall to the ground, pull out a pistol, and shoot me before I realize what happened- not at all realistic, given that most people who suffer mortal wounds are more interested in hanging on to life than shooting back.
It would not work like that considering not every class has a pistol, in the original RO the only class was the tank crewman (who are in tanks so you obviously don't need to worry about them) and the squad leader, also a MG will have a pistol but switching out an MG to a pistol would take awhile, it will probably be the same also in RO2 except the commander will probably have a pistol, but he won't be near the action. You keep thinking of a CoD like last stand where you fall to the ground instantly and within 2 seconds are able to pull off a shot, you won't instantly fall to the ground like that and even if this happened to be a squad leader in close combat he would not have enough time to pull out a pistol, as if he was pulling out the pistol he would of already died. This also is not like CoD where this will be guaranteed every single time you get shot, this will not happen a lot but lets say you as a rifleman and another rifleman are in the room, you shoot him and he goes get a "last stand" he only has a couple of seconds, his vision is getting bad and blurry, and I wouldn't be surprised if they designed it where he would have shaky aim. Even if he still is alive you would easily have enough time to say leave and let him bleed out and die a couple of seconds later, stab him with a bayonet or just re bolt and shoot him again. There is a huge dis advantage against him. Yes of course he is going to value hanging on to his life more but what if he has no bandages and even if he does, he might be right in front of you, if he tries crawling back to get a quick chance to bandage he would be shot dead. Like I said it won't take 2 seconds to pull out a pistol and the only guy who would even have a pistol would be a squad leader or a MG, and even if he tried he would be dead by the time it would be probably taken out. Also front to front rifle confrontations wouldn't even happen often, in fact very rarely as you would be fighting long range, if you were close you would have a Semi-auto rifle or a full Auto Matic which would give you more then enough time to put an extra bullet in him or 2. Remember this game caters to realism the guy isn't going to be crawling on the floor for 20 minutes after switching to a pistol if 1 second and killing people. If your still not sure about this mechanic I would suggest waiting for the beta that is going to come out soon where you can see it's effects your self, and even if you don't like the way it is after seeing it in the beta you can make a post on the forums and the devs will look into it. If you need any more clarification or a question, ask away.

If you shoot a person in the stomach, for instance, they stand still, are unable to move, and begin to stagger. Their vision rapidly fades to black and their accuracy is hugely decreased (they can't aim down sights and their hands are shaking like the devil.) Basically you can just dart past them and they can't do anything about it (I don't think they can turn, or if they can, only at the speed of a retarded KV-2's turret), or you can put another round into them anywhere to make them go down instantly. Or, you can just watch as they bleed out in another 2-3 seconds. EDIT: This is confirmed by the way. By that I mean there's video footage of it working this way.

To anyone who is interested in hosting a server you should look at this https://docs.google.com/a/rush-zone.com/document/d/1wjBHpq75aHPX3CEw6ZztEgf6TqVSCEjq0FNQY2MQ9OY/edit?authkey=CLb8hvgH&hl=en_GB&pli=1&ndplr=1&pli=1 It is the RO Clan Match Support Info List, but it is not only for competitive clan matches as that document tells you everything that you can do with your server.
Anywhere I could get the video footage?
Here is a video of it happening to a bot http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-11-red-orchestra/711637?type=flv start at 2:50 and watch where he shoots the bot in front of the fence (remember it is cam footage). I think there is one where it happens in first person but I don't know where it is though, also regarding to catbarfs concern, if you watch the footage you can see this it happened once out of how many guys he shot.

About the stream that was posted before, if you would like to listen to it here is the link http://www.justin.tv/teamrush/b/288337891 it starts at 1h:10. And a post from someone from Punkbuster detailing what it is going to support in RO2
First off I want to thank Tripwire for using both VAC and PunkBuster, this is something no other developer has done. Anti-cheat in many games is typically passed onto a 3rd party that the developer favors and left at that. I wanted to post a little information about PBBans for players and server administrators who do not have experience with games that use PunkBuster. PBBans is a third party PunkBuster (PB) support community that utilizes the PB log streaming ability to receive PB related data in real time. We also provide server admins with more bannable options outside of the standard PB detections such as MD5 tool scans for known cheat files, CVAR scans of known cheat cvars, submitting PB screenshots and game recorded demos. These are some of the methods we use to catch cheaters in greater detail: Quote: Even Balance Violations These are PunkBuster triggered violations which are in the 50000 to 139999 range. Many of which only result in a two minute kick. They are added by Even Balance, the creators of PunkBuster. PBBans automatically bans these violations as they are cheating related. CVAR Scans Games that make use of CVARs have the option to have PunkBuster scan them and kick the player if they do not meet the defined checks. PBBans takes this a step further by adding known cheat cvar checks and ban players when detected. MD5 Tool Scans The PunkBuster MD5 tool allows admins to define file checks that can kick a user if the file md5 checksum does not match the one defined by the server admin. It can also be used to check if a file exists. PBBans uses this tool to detect the presence of known cheat files and to make sure stock game files are not tampered with to enable cheating. PunkBuster Screenshots These are screen captures of what a player is viewing on their screen. We give server admins the option to submit PunkBuster Screenshots of suspected cheaters for ban consideration. If deemed to be cheat related they are added to our banlist. Game Recorded Demos If a game supports recording demos that are viewable in first person, we give server admins the option to submit demos of suspected cheaters for ban consideration. If deemed to be cheat related they are added to our banlist. Cheat File Match (CFM) Some cheats replace stock game files in order to enable cheating. Using the PB MD5 Tool we can scan a stock file and if they match to a known cheat file the player is banned. This feature is unique to PBBans. We also provide a number of features that: help the fight against cheaters, create a better playing environment through in-game messages and the ability to advertise through signatures, XML and RSS feeds. Some of those include: Quote: Ban Enforcement When enabled, the PBBans Hub will check GUIDs of connecting players against the MBi. If a match is found, it issues a ban command. Even if your co-admin empties your banlist, a caught cheater will not be able to join the server. This may also help to reduce lag on your server. Also if the Ban Announcements flag is enabled a message will be sent to your server stating the user was kicked for a prior ban. IP Restrictions The IP Restriction feature when enabled searches the MBi (Master Ban Index) for a player’s ip when they join a server. If a match is found based on the admin defined parameters (Exact match or Subnets), the user is kicked from the server. The time can be set from 10 minutes to 7 days of the player receiving a ban. This is very effective for free games such as Enemy Territory, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play 4 Free. External Ban Lists Since PBBans imports banlists from various anti-cheat communities; we offer the option to check supported banlists for banned cheaters. Level 1 - Connecting players are checked against the EBL Level 1 AC Sites. If a match is found, a kick command is issued. Level 2 - Connecting players are checked against the EBL Level 2 AC Sites. If a match is found, a kick and ban command are issued. A list of anti-cheat communities included in the EBL can be found at the bottom of the MBi page. Ban Announcements When enabled, a ban message will be sent to your server when a player is banned from any server on our streaming network. Personal Greetings When enabled, a custom message will be sent to a server (With the correct flag enabled) when you join. This is based on your PB GUID. Standard Join Greeting When enabled, a single custom message will be sent to your server when a player joins. Custom Signatures We offer server admins the option to create custom signature images with full control of text locations, large selection of backgrounds and more (Fully customizable). We also offer server based signatures based on a number of selectable templates. RSS and XML Feeds We offer server admins and other users a large variety of RSS and XML feeds. Some of which include ban lists (global, game based and team based), team account data, extended server data and more. A full list of what PBBans offers and information on how to join can be found on our website at http://www.pbbans.com/info-center-beginnersguide.html We look forward to supporting Red Orchestra 2 upon release
When is this game supposed to come out?
When is this game supposed to come out?
August, apparently.
When is this game supposed to come out?
Ausgust or September, but there is going to be a large closed beta happening soon (around 20,000 keys) Also the Community Manager (Yoshiro) has posted on the forums on Punkbuster and the 4 different stages of it that you can put on your sever.
As has been pointed out we take the cheating threat very seriously, and have seen several games tank in the past year not because they were bad games (some were very enjoyable), but because their multiplayer environment was destroyed within weeks by cheaters. We have listened to our community and others about what they want from an anti cheat environment and with that in mind we designed our current plan. *VAC will be available for all servers and turned on by default. We know some have had (and some still do have) problems with Punk Buster and with that in mind we are working with Even Balance to address that situation. Our current plan has PB implemented in three stages. *Stage 0: Off *Stage 1: Access to the server screenshot functionality and streaming bans *Stage 2: Standard PB protection that WILL NOT interfere with Steam (and the overlay) *Stage 3: Full PB that WILL (most likely) kick for the steam overlay Server admins can work with these to decide what anti cheat environment works best for their server. And players will be able to filter for those settings as well to find servers that fit their preferences. But remember, the greatest tool against cheaters is an active community both reporting cheaters (to Steam with the built in report function, and PB Bans) as well as forwarding any cheats they can get their hands on to any of the parties involved (ourselves which is preferable as we can get it to all the others quickly, EvenBalance and the VAC Team).
