Yer I'm assuming that's what was meant by Spetsnaz, considering that was their main role (as far as I know) in WWII
Well looking at the RO2 footage, the guy was either a Elite Rifleman or a Hero, so either way I doubt you will see many on the field.
But I love the way the German a the end is holding the luger, one and behind his back and one hand forward.
Also Tripwire opened their own online store for shirts and mugs etc. https://www.ptxstore.com/tripwire/index.php
There are only Killing Floor items at the moment but when RO2 is released we will probably get tons of items.

Yeah it was an elite rifleman and there was only one slot for it if I remember right.

I think thats some pretty epic pistol animation.
Soldiers were trained to fire one handed in WW2.
Now I can stand on top of a fortified hill, stand up over my cover and fire my revolver like a man.

"Spetsnaz" (Full Russian name: voyska spetsial'nogo naznacheniya) are special-purpose forces, though reconnaissance is one of their roles. Look at the actions of Soviet partisans during the Great Patriotic War as well.
As for "reconnaissance and scout troops", Soviet recon forces varied; motorized rifle reconnaissance battalions usually had a mixture of motorcycle companies, tank companies, and possibly armored cars and motorized rifle subunits. Infantry reconnaissance units were more platoon or company sized elements which were either on foot or horse mounted (and often wearing those cool camo coveralls).
During offensives, it was common practice for divisional commanders to send out a tailored and reinforced reconnaissance detachment who would fight their way into the forward German positions before the main attack and identify centers of resistance which required the application of pre-planned artillery fire. The defending Germans would imagine that this is the "main effort" and imagine victory when the Soviet attack withdraws. Then the artillery concentrations begin…

Ahh. I remembered reading or hearing somewhere that the Spetsnaz functioned primarily as recon troops during WWII, but that may be completely wrong. In fact it probably was if I remember where I heard it from right.

I'm going to try that in the beta, if I'm ever on higher ground defending, I will slowly walk down and fire with my sexy pistol animation. Destroying everything in my path, I've done it before in RO and I think I'll be able to do it still in RO2, only difference is that I'll be doing it in style this time.
I shit you not, the second I get a revolver it will be the only thing I use, regardless of my enemies weapons.
Revolvers are all man. No officer should be without his revolver and sword, the game could only be better if I could charge into a combined arms battle on horseback with a revolver in one hand and a scottish officer's broadsword in the other. Would be fucking boss.
The Japanese officers in Rising Storm better have swords.

Yes and you maybe wont have to fire at the person 5 times to kill them.

Pistols were ridiculously hard to use in RO. I understand their range would be less than optimal but aiming the pistols was harder than aiming a rifle.
It took an amazing amount of work just to shoot a moving target at point blank range with a pistol.

Really? because a couple of nights ago I ran into the Eastern Farmhouse on Hedgehog and got about 7 kills with my pistol. Most required shots I needed to kill a guy were 2, all the others were one shot kills.

Its merely an exception, but its still much more clunky than it should be.
I've never fired a pistol before, but a single-handheld gun at point blank range would simply be a matter of point and shoot, not "turn your entire body to face the enemy and use ironsights" thats basically what officer's revolver/pistol is for, to paste people at point blank range.
If pistols are realistic, you shouldn't even need to use the ironsights at close range, hopefully it's basically just a point and shoot mechanic when you're close. Either way it is looking fairly point and shoot, judging by the third person animations, so that's good.

I disagree. In Leningrad one time, we were at the building above command center. I was the Lieutenant. I had my TT-33 out as I had run out of ammo for my PPSh-41. My team were all being cowards, hiding around and not taking a single shot at the rapidly advancing Germans. I typed "Forward, cowards!" and then rushed out into the open. Right off the bat I got two Germans running up the ruins with rifles. One down that hallway that leads into No. 70 apartments (I think that's what they're called) started hip firing at me with a MP40 and I shot him. I rushed onward and found two Germans hiding in the bathroom. They both miraculously missed me and I killed both of them. I stopped to reload and rushed back out into the open, finding three more Germans with rifles looking towards where I had been before. I got two before the third one managed to turn around. He fired and missed. I spent the rest of my magazine trying to take him out. A bunch of my team-mates finally ran forward... right before I got shot by a friendly :v: I've never done anything that badass in any game before or since.
I think people are missing the point.
Everybody probably has a story where they killed a bunch of people with the pistols, but the fact of the matter is if you had an MP40 or an SVT you would have done even more damage, wheras if you're at really close range a pistol would probably be more ideal than a bolt action or semi auto rifle.
The pistol mechanics in ROOST are far from realistic, your character is literally hipfiring it when a normal soldier would be pointing it one handed, directly at their target. The pistols in roost were adequate, and given that they fire bullets, they are obviously capable of killing players, but they are not realistic or ideal.
But they're so much more badass and the it's the fact that you did that with that gun and still managed to kill people. Slightly embarrassing too, no?

True. It looks to be fixed in RO2, what with the badass German guy going like "Excuse me my fine Soviet friend, but this bullet fell out of your face back there. Here, let me return it" at the end of that video

Yes but when I said I got those kills it was because I was playing as a sniper and our team wasn't capturing that area so I decided to do something about it, my main was a scoped bolt action, it was better for me to use the pistol. Also in Hurts story, he only used the pistol because his PPSH-41 ran out of ammo, both of our main weapons were useless so using the pistol was the better option.
Also Rising Storm is recruiting http://www.risingstormgame.com/news/35-rs-news/55-rising-storm
I would join as a Level Designer but I think I don't have that much experience yet, and I have to create a proper portfolio. But if anyone is good at what is listed then I suggest joining and helping out, as this would probably greatly help someone if you wanted to get into the games industry.
On an unrelated note, I don't see why tons of people are complaining about the game, the people who play RO basically every day (The TWB Clan) got to play RO2 and thought it was amazing and couldn't wait after playing it, the InCountry Vietnam guys played it and loved it, and the Rising Storm guys played it and loved it, So we have some of the oldest players who play a lot and some of the best modders for RO saying it was amazing after they played it. And we have all those people on the forums who are just basing their stuff off small ganeplay clips that mean nothing of the final game. Because that silenced revolver and the MKB and AVT obviously stand out when they are out of context. But when you are playing on a full 64 player server I doubt people will be noticing.
I agree. I can understand where the ultra-realism guys are coming from, but too many (not all by any means though) are coming off as douches, which is sad because a lot of them do have some valid points (like, why not have a historically accurate uniform, especially if its so easy to fix? I'm not saying they should be freaking out about it, which a lot of them are for some reason, but you know, they have merit.) Then there are the people who are like "MKB 42? HNGGGGGGGGG TRIPWIRE FAIL" who should seriously just stfu.

Ah your right, I shouldn't of generalized, the guys talking about uniforms are ok as if I'm correct, aren't some of these guys people who have been playing since the original mod? but they aren't whining which is good, they are mostly just hoping Tripwire fixes some uniform issues and that's it, not yelling about how the game is ruined forever and Call of Red Orchestra.
But those are the guys that bother me when they go "OH LOL MKB HEADSHOTSZ EVERYWHERE" and how some guns like the silenced revolver over here is actually realistic and fine and that only 1 person per team can have the MKB and AVT and only 1 or 2 can have the silenced revolver. It's just ridiculous that kind of complaining and the devs have stated multiple times that it will not change so deal with it.
Seriously, those type of guys you just can't please, if there are not any server options in a game "OMG NO OPTIONS, THIS SUCKS" which is some what reasonable, but then you have Tripwire coming a long and give you options for every thing in the god damn game and then they go "THIS IS STUPID, EVEN THOUGH I CAN DISABLE IT, IT STUPID AND I HATE U"

Yeah I know. It's not like there'll be any lack of realism servers either, so it's rather retarded for them to complain the way they do.
I just like how there will be revolvers. They're amusing to use in Darkest hour.

Semi auto rifle is way better than a pistol even at close range (unless you are hugging each other). The stopping power is simply so much greater.

Those guys who complained about the weapons were actually pretty much pleased about it when they got Tripwire's response that the experimental stuff would be rare and optional. Atleast those who were complaining about uniforms and stuff. It's a good thing they are complaining and questioning Tripwire, because it makes sure that it will go overboard and completely messed up, which I am in no way implying it will.
I haven't checked the forums recently though so I'm not sure if you're talking about the same guys as earlier.
But however annoying it is it's good that people give feedback and complaints, no matter how harsh or stupid they may sound.
They should add that robot dog from WWII.
