Mother 3 spoilers inside this video but can't find a non-spoiler version of the credits theme I still bawl like a child hearing this and knowing the game closes out on this
The credit theme is called "Sixteen Melodies", and is composed of renditions of Mother's "Eight Melodies", EarthBound's "Smiles and Tears", and Mother 3's "Love Theme". The one that gets me is "It is Finished", given what goes on in the game while it's being played.
Yeah, the several melodies in it from the 3 games is why I like it :v
Every saturday back when i was little, my dad took the only car we had to do work and to try to get us out, my mother would walk my sister, my brother, and me down the street to the local burgerking where we would get breakfast. After burger king we'd go intothe dollar store and play around with the cheap toys and maybe even get one or two. But it was after the dollar store that we'd all get excited, after the dollar store my mother would take us to a local video rental shop just a few doors down and she we let us rent a game. At the the time we only had a nes snes and genesis. We'd blaze right by the nes section, ignore the genesis shelves and come to a screeching halt in the snes section. We wouldn't stay long because we would always go for the same game over and over, Earthbound. We spent months trying to beat the game but we'd always have to return it before we could and we'd have to wait about a week again to rent the game, but we kept trying at it. The sad truth is that we actually never did beat it, but we would always have one hell of a time trying.
best rpg ive ever played. ever.
I never got what made giygas so scary...
I never got what made giygas so scary...
You expect it now, you've read about it, you know the ins and outs on why it's made. Back then you had no fucking clue and it was about going to new york stereotypes playing with monkeys and general sillyness, imagine not knowing it's coming, it's less shit yourself in terror and more unsettling and as a kid not understanding why it keeps crying to you while flickering is just nervebreaking. As opposed to "Oh I know Giygas is the final boss and it's a screaming skull who says my name alot can't wait to see it myself!"
One of my favorite games of all time, and I don't have nostalgia for it given I played it first back in 2006. I'll say it's flawed gameplay wise, but the world is just so interesting. Also compared to other RPGs at the time, the gameplay was rather fast and forgiving. I'm looking at you Final Fantasy 6.
I never got what made giygas so scary...
It was mostly the mood change. This game is super happy and cartoony in everything it does, and then it just hits you with giygas. If you didn't hear about it in advance, it was quite sudden.
Never played the first two games. Played and beat Mother 3 though, great game. Also has one of the best game soundtracks ever, even if it is a GBA game.
I have a question about M3, What is the point of the mysterious metal monkey?
it's [sp]a[/sp] good experience [editline]20th July 2011[/editline] also satire
I loved the combat for Mother 3 (beat combos) although I never got above 2 hit combos. The plus side is I got 2 hit combos on every move :v:
it's [sp]a[/sp] good experience [editline]20th July 2011[/editline] also satire
satire of what exactly?
I'm just waiting for this game to be on virtual console.
Sadly it may be a long, long while for that, from all the references to the Beatles, and such.
This music gave me the chills when I got to Threed: [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] I would love to see Earthbound on the 3DS.
satire of what exactly?
Experience points.
MOTHER 1 is really fucking hard. EarthBound is still the greatest RPG series ever though. Fuck Final Fantasy. I also like it beceause the combat is based on Dragon Quest's. You can buy MOTHER 1's soundtrack on play-asia and stuff. MOTHER 3's soundtracks were on itunes before but they got took off for some reason. I own MOTHER 2 in it's physical form due to EarthBound being so rare. ( Note that it is not actually rare due to the fact it was mass-produced. People just think it is and put it on ebay for 400$. It's just like MSX games. )
I just got earthbound (along with a few other snes games like super mario kart, DK country 2, etc.) for a good price. Gunna play it for the first time now.
i honestly don't understand the interest people have in this game. to me the only good game in the series was the first and that's because it was quite challenging, which was the norm for any nes rpg. earthbound was pretty subpar on the level of other snes rpgs on a lot of points except supposedly its story and dialogue, and honestly when it came to dialogue i preferred woolsey's translation of ffvi. as for mother 3, it's not a bad game, but it's not a masterpiece there. it's awfully average and i absolutely never even understood how the story was supposed to be touching. i don't know, it didn't stir my heart or anything. maybe i'm missing the point, i don't know.
I just installed an SNES emulator and DL'd an Earthbound ROM. I've never played this game before.
earthbound fucking rules
I can see why people love this game from what im playing. Simple RPG mechanics that arn't too hard to learn (auto-attack is a godsend), the Graphics are a fresh look at most of the graphics of today. The game is a bit too easy for my tastes though (Bought everything in that drug store and i basically ransacked the Shark-infested Arcade and destroyed freddy in under a minute.) then again, i am only in the beginning of the game still so it should get harder soon. the music is awesome too.
Not sure if this means anything to you guys but somebody is working on a fan version of Mother 4. http://mother4.andonuts.net/ It looks great and seems to stay true to the mother style even with their own additions. I can not wait for this to be released.
