Okay I'm thinking of two different options
We're getting the FTB pack for 1.4.2
now, new world or not?
Not a new world would probably fuck up some things even though buildcraft is fucked already, and transition will take longer.
New world = much, much better, but of course everythings gone.

You may want to consider disabling some of the GregTech recipie changes if you're going to use the FTB modpack.

The mod makes it so you can't craft/decraft glowstone/lapiz/metal storage blocks by default.

it also makes solar panels wayyyyy more expensive

So, gregtech, and EE3 gone out of FTB. We can update to 1.4.2 today, if you want.
Also let me know if you want a map download, cause I'm gonna have to delete it when I change to FTB

Don't completely disable GregTech if you can, it does have some really neat stuff in it. The expensive recipies can be turned off in the config.

If you haven't changed your own configs it'll still show the expensive recipe.

If you're crafting a solar panel, do it normally and click the blank space since GUI is client side your configs are default and you can't craft solar panels normally, so click where the solar panel would be.
