You know, this whole move to Vista/7 argument is pretty flawed.
The 360 is the main console/system that games are made for, it is from 2005 and runs DX9, JC2 is on the 360. There is NO EXCUSE TO PORT IT OVER. They just lost my sale.
Hell, BC2 uses DX9 and honestly, when compared to DX10 and DX11 looks just the same, DX10 has barely better lighting and DX11 has some soft-shadows.
Wow guys, get improvements. Nothing amazing that will convince me to switch to DX10 nor DX11 anytime soon.
Infact, what the fuck is with DX11, DX10 has been out for only a year or so and already there was 10.1 and I believe 10.2, now 11?
It's great that technology moves but the reality is that great things can still be made with older systems such as DX9, it's not as if DX10 and DX11 have these amazing abilities, until the new Xbox comes out with DX10/DX11 you'll never see any true DX10/DX11 games. Yes, these "next-gen" games we all play are pathetic lies, live with it.

Why are you running as Admin anyways? Security 101: never run as admin or root unless you absolutely need to. Maybe you think you're smart enough to never get a virus, but nobody's bulletproof. And yes, I practice what I preach.
Been running as admin for 4 years on xp, nothing bad happened. Win7/vista does not need to babysit me.
I will not continue posting here, there is no point.
Good, the thread is better off without your monstrous amount of stupidity.

You may be certain that you packed your parachute right, but you stick pack a back-up, right? Besides, running as limited helps protect you not just from viruses and junk, but from yourself.
Small Icons on in the Taskbar options, that makes 7 look more Windows like.
7 is better in every-way to XP.
If you don't want to upgrade, you don't deserve to play new games.
The look isn't the only thing stopping a lot of people(including myself) from switching. XP just gets it right, without fuckloads of bloat, crap, stupid UAC crap, etc.
Bloat? If you mean Aero, it's optional. UAC is also optional. (W7 has a slider to disable it, much easier than Vista)
:bandwagon:
Jesus fucking christ people are retarded. When Vista came out everyone said it sucked without even trying it, now everybody is sucking Microsoft's dick claiming Windows 7 is the best OS ever. Whoever doesn't use it yet is apparently way behind the times and should upgrade immediately or else they're mentally retarded.
Let me clear something up here: Windows 7 costs money. I don't care which torrent tracker you got it off or which one of your parents bought it for you, it costs money. It certainly isn't a bad OS, but why spend 100$ on it when the one you already have does pretty much the same thing? Sure there's lots of improvements in Win 7, but they just don't justify the cost of upgrading, unless you're buying a new computer and need an OS to go with it anyway.
Yes, the OP won't be able to play JC2. But why does this forum have to be so full of Win 7 elitism? Seriously, everyone is like:"I'm using Windows 7, i'm better than you.":smug::fh:
If i remeber correctly DirectX 10 wasnt given to xp users to force us to buy the "at that time" shitty overally bugged Vista. Also to all thoses saying bawwww its 9years olds, How old is the source engine??
In your analogy the OB version of source would be Vista and the Portal 2 version W7.
Source is an old trashy engine now. It's shown it's age for a couple of years now, but it still works in the majority of cases, unlike XP, which works in the minority of cases now.
The difference between an old OS and an Old Engine is Engines can usually be fixed with a Patch to support new OS. Old OS will never support new Engines after a 2-3 year grace period after the upgrade comes out.
If you're still using XP, you're a technological Neanderthal

that's the most flawed post this year. you do realize that consoles run most games these days at what equals low/medium settings on PC. you do realize that this means that DX10 and 11 can still very much be used for better detail. i'm aware that the 360 runs DX9. that is no reason why the PC version should have it since using DX10 pretty much improves its performance in every way. also, if your argument stands, then we're all getting conned MAX since none of our games get OpenGL 2.1 support that the PS3 gets.
you had a great thinking moment there, but missed in the details. let me pad you on the back and encourage deeper thinking.
as for the anti win 7 guy with the Hoff as avatar. look up the facts about what you argue against, most of what you write as good reasons to skip 7 is either old anti vista Bias or bullshit someone in your class made up. UAC is disableable, Prefetch only preloads the apps you use the most and if you need the ram, it gets the fuck out of your way faster than a turd shot out a canon. the reason the religion argument point you brought up fits is because you're as thickheaded to what we tell you as any radical fanatic. wake up.

true, get 7 with a machine. but don't be a tard and format to xp, that's outright BOX!
Vista's baww bandwagon wasn't based on myth though. it DID strangle my computer and 7 lightened the load considerably. vistas minimal AND reccomended requirements felt like an outright lie and you had to wait just those 15 seconds longer than you cared to endure when opening something as small as a browser.
XP is behind now, but only just now. last year it was fine. don't label people when you obviously seem to jump on the "Vista had no problems because i didn't experience any" bandwagon. have a bad day.
Are you in college? If so, you can't really use the "Windows 7 is too expensive" excuse. Microsoft does discounts for students.
Someone PLEASE find some way to play Just Cause 2 on XP...
I have tried both Windows Vista and 7, and they look and feel like crap! Why would I want to buy something that does the same as what I have no, but with alot of useless extra features and a fugly look?
Would you buy a new graphics card if it made your games look fuzzy and glowy? (More than they already are :P) If your own graphics card (although 9 years old) could run all the newest games on highest quality?
Anyways, I'm really hoping someone on Facepunch will be able to find a solution.
Edit: I talked to one of my friends who found a way to make windows 7 a lot less fugly (No... Not just a windows XP theme... I never said XP was pretty, just less ugly :)), which was one of my two main reasons for not wanting to switch and thanks to msdnaa, my second main reason has been taken care of, so he persuaded me to switch :) Still, I'm sad that It will be even harder, to play some of my old games :( Oh well.
I hope this patch helps, unfortunatly, you have to pay for it.

me too lol
9 year old graphics card will not max out just cause 2.
Don't you still need a DX10 gpu to do the DX10 hack?
You guys realize that having XP and having a recent graphics card are not mutually exclusive, right? You're just joking about that, right?
Yeah, you can have a graphics card that was not made before Windows XP
Guys, my cat wants to play Just Cause 2 on his PowerBook 150. It may only have a 33 MHz motorola 68030, a black and white screen with 2 grays and run Mac OS 7.5.3, though can someone find me a patch for DX 10? My cat is getting impatient.

I use Windows 7 and admit it sucks compared to XP. It's just more compatible with newer technology.
What you on about old man?
Just do what I do: dual boot xp and windows 7. Works great for playing old games on XP and anything else on 7.
Also, 7 rocks, and it looks amazing. XP is an outdated pile of boring shit aesthetically, and in terms of functionality I feel 7 is so much more intuitive.
Wait what?
Pretty much all XP games work on 7. The only bad thing about it is the interface and look.
Wait what?

The Windows 7 interface is a huge step up from XP in terms of both aesthetics and usability.
Oh look at all the fanboys... If some day Bill Gates realizes that his piece of "shit" he calls an OS sucks and makes DirectX open source, I'll switch to any Linux distribution, and not because I'm a Linux fan, it's just out of all OS the most stable/powerful one. Period.
Just to point out Halo 2 didn't have any DX10 features, it was just Vista only.
Then why the fuck would they make us buy a new OS, just to buy a new game, that's just stupid. Very.
Then why the fuck would they make us buy a new OS, just to buy a new game, that's just stupid. Very.
That's the entire point. They wanted people to buy Vista.
Then why the fuck would they make us buy a new OS, just to buy a new game, that's just stupid. Very.
Because they thought they could make more money. How many people shelled out $300 for an XBox just to play Halo, back when that was the only good game on the console?
(Yes, the first Halo was actually a pretty decent game. No, it was not the best game EVAR. Don't start bitching about this now, sidetracking this thread even further.)
