I use admin, because you really have zero access when using a "normal user" account (I'm on Vista).
I know you can change access for different user groups, but it was much easier to just click admin when I created my first account.
He's not saying you must run as a limited user, he's just suggesting leaving UAC on.
My biggest problem with UAC is it's no more helpful to the average user. Such a person just clicks "continue" regardless, without considering whether the dialog should have even popped up or not.
I don't know about anyone else, but I fucking loathed XP for some reason, I thought it was total shit.
Me too. Using XP was a horrendous experience, but it was the only viable solution I had at that time.

Meh, basically the same, but everything moved around.

Because Bill Gates makes the OS, being retired and all.
You know, this whole move to Vista/7 argument is pretty flawed.
The 360 is the main console/system that games are made for, it is from 2005 and runs DX9, JC2 is on the 360. There is NO EXCUSE TO PORT IT OVER. They just lost my sale.
Hell, BC2 uses DX9 and honestly, when compared to DX10 and DX11 looks just the same, DX10 has barely better lighting and DX11 has some soft-shadows.
Wow guys, get improvements. Nothing amazing that will convince me to switch to DX10 nor DX11 anytime soon.
Infact, what the fuck is with DX11, DX10 has been out for only a year or so and already there was 10.1 and I believe 10.2, now 11?
It's great that technology moves but the reality is that great things can still be made with older systems such as DX9, it's not as if DX10 and DX11 have these amazing abilities, until the new Xbox comes out with DX10/DX11 you'll never see any true DX10/DX11 games. I totally approve that message!
I hate how half of the arguments for any operating system are the interface. Like that makes a world of difference. Like that is what the developers put all their long hours of work into.
Edit: I talked to one of my friends who found a way to make windows 7 a lot less fugly (No... Not just a windows XP theme... Are you dumb? I recently upgraded to W7 and I'm still learning it, but so far I find it way superior than XP, both in looks and functionality. It's simply awesome!

Again somebody that has no idea what he's talking about dissing DX10. Most of the games with DX10 support only have DX10 thrown in just for the sake of it with an extra effect or two, that must mean DX10 is actually no different from DX9, no?
But in JC2 the DX10 renderer is actually great, it wasn't a halfassed port at all. They've managed to make it great looking and run well at the same time. The performance hit of 4X AA is barely noticeable, and it has transparency AA built right in. It's amazing how well it runs for the graphics that it produces.

I've always assumed they were trolls. I dunno.
Are you guys serious? Vista/7 got nothing but DX10 vs. XP(and W98).
Vista is pretty much like that Windows Millenium or w/e they made few years ago. Just threw it out in a worthless beta state and didnt bother to patch it since they were gonna launch a new version right after anyway.
W98 is easily the most stable and well patched OS there is. XP SP2 aint far behind.
I'd understand it if you guys were like 50+ y.o. and didnt expect to much from your OS except being able to watch your holliday pics. But at this time both Vista and 7 got way to many flaws for "experienced" users.
And WTF is with the 2gig RAM leech from the OS? thats freakin hillarious.
I'm probably getting some tweaked version of 7 just for gaming tho.
Anyhow if your more than a casual user you will(in many cases) need numerous OS's. So with a few tweaks i guess 7 will be the new gaming OS.
Using XP SP2, Ubuntu and BT4.

Jesus fucking christ people are retarded. When Vista came out everyone said it sucked without even trying it, now everybody is sucking Microsoft's dick claiming Windows 7 is the best OS ever. Whoever doesn't use it yet is apparently way behind the times and should upgrade immediately or else they're mentally retarded.
Let me clear something up here: Windows 7 costs money. I don't care which torrent tracker you got it off or which one of your parents bought it for you, it costs money. It certainly isn't a bad OS, but why spend 100$ on it when the one you already have does pretty much the same thing? Sure there's lots of improvements in Win 7, but they just don't justify the cost of upgrading, unless you're buying a new computer and need an OS to go with it anyway.
Yes, the OP won't be able to play JC2. But why does this forum have to be so full of Win 7 elitism? Seriously, everyone is like:"I'm using Windows 7, i'm better than you.":smug::fh:
It's nearly a decade old OS, get with the times and just upgrade.
You will have to upgrade in a couple years with Microsoft cutting support and is no longer updating XP. :tiphat:

holy shit you're dumb, worst 1st post EVER.
You're bitching about an interface change between Luna and Aero? Try switching between Aero, Luna, Aqua, WindowMaker and KDE. Plus Ctrl-Alt-Tabbing to a command prompt every so often. I do that, and the only thing that really throws me off is trying to remember whether to use "ls" or "dir", which mainly comes down to "did I install Cygwin?".
Computer interfaces are pretty similar nowadays. Switching from one GUI to another is easy. The buttons are all in the same spot (save OS X, but they're just flipped), the buttons all do the same things, and they all use the same icon scheme. I have more problems switching switching between games that use ctrl to crouch and ones that use c to crouch.
If your only complaint is the aesthetics, not only are you the one person who likes the Luna theme, there are (as others have pointed out) numerous skins you can use to make any os look like XP.
So now, your only two arguments are not having enough money, or not having the processing power to run Aero. I can't solve the first one for you, but if you can't run 7, you won't be able to run JC2 anyways, rendering this discussion pointless.
Quod erat demonstrandum, motherfucker.

Maybe on a top-of-the-line computer, but Valve realistically targets the average gaming computer. The Source engine looks good even on bad computers. Who cares if it isn't Crysis? It looks good enough to maintain immersion. That's the only thing that matters.
I'm never switching from XP until I lose the disc for it or have enough expendable cash for W7, and neither has happened for the past 9 years.

I know this is probably late and probably already mentioned but source is 6 years old, windows XP is nearly 10 years old.

By the way? Does Steam Engine support DX10/11? And if not, when will they make it support it. I mean, most gamers these days have atleast dx10 capable cards.
Steam hardware surveys display that about 50% of the market still own DX9 only cards, the rest own DX10+

Not to mention that comparing a game engine to an OS is absurd. Game engines are easier to modernize and are entirely different.

Let's review all the fantastic games that need DX10
Just Cause 2
Shattered Horizon
Let me know if there are any others, released or not - I'm not saying you shouldn't switch away from XP or anything, but it sure doesn't seem like DX10 is the big focus yet to me.
