Having really unhistorical names is apparantly "breathtaking detail".
Authenticity should always take precedence over realism in games, unless the point of the game is to educate the person on the culture. Games would not be very much fun otherwise.
and here comes g-strogg, who's opinion is fact and if you disagree you're objectively wrong. Looks like a neat game, reminds me of a ps2 title that I can't quite remember t he name of. If I get Xbox i'll probably snatch this one.
The game you're thinking of is Shadow of Rome, a game where you can rip other people's limbs apart and use these limbs as weapons. It's arguably much better than Ryse.
This is going to play exactly like Space Marine it looks like. I just can't see the actual depth of gameplay though.
Space Marine was fucking awesome. Pity the multiplayer's completely dead now.
As far as I can tell, the combat looks really boring and shallow. They nailed animations and the game looks fucking gorgeous, but it just looks so uninteresting from a gameplay perspective.
I think I'll go buy Space Marine. I sold it when I stopped playing it but I don't think I ever beat it.
Ryse was supposed to be terrible, right? Surprise! It’s not bad at all (penny arcade)
did you read the last section
The game play loop of attacking, breaking a guard, and parrying the attacks of other enemies will take up 90 percent of your time playing the game, and that proves to be repetitious. You'll also grow numb to the violence, the constant thrusting of swords into armor and flesh, as each killing blow is shown in graphic detail. Violent games aren't rare, but this is a nearly pornographic celebration of carnage, and it can be hard to deal with the hundredth arm hacked off at the elbow. You'll travel to far away places and kill everyone you see, and the sights and setpieces will often inspire awe, but there is nothing to do accept hack away at the enemy soldiers and try to keep your combo going. It's not that this isn't fun, as long as you don't mind the rivers of blood it can be fairly enjoyable, it's just relentless. The violence loses its punch around the second chapter, and the game doesn't really provide anything to take its place. The plot twists aren't very surprising, and the final act is borderline nihilistic in the context of everything you've learned throughout the game. This isn't a bad game by any stretch, but it just barely sneaks into the “good” game category. Hey, it's better than we expected!
Looks like a cool game. Shame I'm never going to play it, being on the Xbox One.
