Xsyon: Prelude (The Wurm Online + Darkfall + Mortal Online + Real World MMO)

I never did understand why anyone thought it was fake.
Because of only 5 screenshots (all of which were fake judging by actual gameplay vs. the "screenshots" provided) were provided.
No gameplay videos, practically no information that the game even existed.
Don't get your hopes up to high. This may turn out to be another Fallen Earth.
And that started with a great pre-alpha footage and art style.
Just really bad marketing. No excuse for that even for being an indie developer. Anyways, Im not sure if I like that generic look of the HUD if you know what I mean. Hopefully it'll be a good game. It'd be a more appealing game without the $40 price tag on top of the subscription.

Yeah, for a game like this the price tag was a little daunting, but considering you get two free months of gameplay when compared to one for most any other MMO on the market, I think that really makes up for it. You also get some kind of special weapon for pre-ordering? I'm really not much for baubles like that they tack on as pre-order rewards, but it's nice all the same.
Isn't this game a wonder for griefers? I mean they can put roads and walls in the middle of nowhere in shape of a penis.

There were 40 screenshots, not 5. What in the hell're you smoking?
Also, they were probably screenshots taken during alpha testing.

A little daunting? 40$ is like one meal out on the town or a few beers =\

Anyway. A few guys from Facepunch joined, and the USSR is sitting at 24 members. Good to have comrades!

I'm gonna buy it when it will be open for everyone who bought it.
is this out, or what?
Art style is terrible. It doesn't look post apocalyptic at all. They might as well just make it medieval, the only thing from the images that would clue me into the setting is the bus. Where is all the other debris?

Why don't you read about the game before you make stupid comments? If you had read about the game you'd know the answer to this.
There ARE ruins, I've seen a few in game, but the players are a generation after the apocalypse, and the area we're playing in isn't heavily urbanized yet. The Lake Tahoe Basin only has a few towns, not to mention we're a generation after the apocalypse AND according to the lore, the 'gods' wiped the slate clean to start over.

Official release is April 15th, they're doing Early Play / Stress Tests right now, letting pre-orders in in bunches.
I'm gonna buy it when it will be open for everyone who bought it.
April 15th is what they say.
Is there magic?
Okay. Here's a hopefully fairly simple question, is it worth buying and why?
Is there magic?
Not that I'm aware, it's just set into the future a bit, post apocalyptic, so I'd imagine no.
It has all of the things that interest me, especially the Wurm Online thing, because I've played Wurm, but I remain very skeptical. Only because, it costs 40$, already a big turn-off. I mean, look at the quality of the work done. And the pay by the month bullshit. I have a job, but I hate P2P especially when you already have to buy the game. I'm not sure, I'll watch over the game, but I don't know if I'll ever get into it.
Is there magic?
There will be later. It comes with religion and is linked to it. They've also hinted that religion will link with permadeath in some way but it will be well worth the chance of permanently dying.
Okay. Here's a hopefully fairly simple question, is it worth buying and why?
Yes. Hard to explain though. Watch the videos, decide for yourself. Ask some questions, talk to the guys that have played.

1- $40 is like, a few beers at a bar, a few movie tickets, or a dinner for 1/2 depending on where you go. You spend more money making dinner at night. Most games cost 50 to 60. In Australia games cost the equivelent of 90-100 dollars. You can't really complain.
2- The game looks REALLY good in game. Everyone knows screenshots and videos are always a horrible representation of in-game actual quality. It's not something to shit your pants over but it isn't shit. It's pretty damn good.
3- It's $15 a month. Let's look at this a few ways.
3a- You're paying $15 for an entire month of entertainment, whenever you want it. If we average a month to 30 days, that's 50 cents every 24 hours. That's pretty damn cheap.
3b- You're getting a full 30 days of play time (or more. Sometimes 31, only once less) for 50 cents a day. A soda cost 1 dollar or more for like an hour of enjoyment. A night out on the town can cost up to 50 or more dollars depending where you go for maybe 4-5 hours. 50 cents for 24 hours is a damn good deal.
3c- You could probably go out and find 50 cents in a half hour or so. Hell, at minimum wage (in my state) you make 50 cents every 4 minutes. Woah look at that, 4 mintutes in work I can pay for 24 hours of entertainment. WOO!

Are you in beta, should I preorder? Also, why does it look clunky and animations look bad. I like darkfall graphics and animation.

Everyone has heard this before you know.
There's something about paying monthly that doesn't feel right to some people.
I don't see how it doesn't feel right.
The game is on THEIR servers. You own a copy of the game sure but you're technically renting out a spot to play.
You can't go to a golf course and play without paying. You can't go to a movie theatre and watch a movie without paying. Same principle. You're renting it.
Also, no I'm not in Early Release. A friend/ally is and he's letting us use his account to check the game out. The animations are a bit clunky at the moment but they're working on fixing them up.

What other MMOs are you waing for /playing?
None. Waiting for my echeck for Minecraft to go through, my EvE Online subscription ends in June or July or something (not renewing).
I'm looking at The Secret World, too, but I doubt I'll sub to that if Xsyon's good

Is there any combat in Xsyon right now? Any mobs? Any pvp?
What are you guys going to say when it comes out and is exactly like what they said?
Nothing. There is no need to feel guilty about being cautious.

Your analogies are great... if you didn't factor in that you have to buy a computer, screen, and internet to play the game. Already, there is a significant initial investment. And now, another $40? GTFO. I don't play WoW or EQ or the others. Why? Because you have to buy that shit and the expansions IN ADDITION TO PAYING A MONTHLY FEE. It's not the monthly fee that puts me off, it's that I have to buy a game AND pay a monthly fee. That doesn't make sense.
Either it's a subscription (Wurm Online, EVE, etc) or it's a purchase (Guild Wars, just about every other game ever). None of this double-dipping shit (EQ, UO, WoW, etc)
Nothing. There is no need to feel guilty about being cautious.

It has never made sense, but it has always just stuck since EQ and UO. There's no point in aruging, more money means more money for them. They don't get the computer money either, so you're idea of how that should add to the reason why they should lower the price is stupid.
unless you're trolling, if so,. good job.
also, its to speed up the process of making the money BACK. you forget that its about money. they also have to pay off the modelers and coders. picture if your mmo sucks big donkey dick, and you own a big company. you spend all your money like an idiot on code monkeys modelers ect. then all of a sudden, you release it. 70% of your suscribers think its shit, and drops it within the first month. however, since you're such a cool ceo bro you made it so they just pay the monthly fee.
meaning you'll have to keep everyone who is still subscribed happy for half a year. not including the people who keep dropping.
think of it as a pillow to catch your dumbass if you made a shitty game.

And your retort is idiotic.
Obviously you already HAVe a computer, screen, and internet. You cannot factor that into the cost as you wouldn't even be looking at the game (or this forum) without it. Factoring in the cost of the computer with the cost of the game is like factoring in your glasses/contact lenses prescription cost to the cost of a movie ticket.
Are you going to say "GTFO" in life when you go to buy a car and they want a deposit and then payments? What about when you buy a house and they want mortgage? Shit costs money. You bought the game, but you're paying for the right to play on THEIR servers hosted by THEIR company with THEIR money so you can play YOUR game. It makes perfect sense to buy the GAME and then pay for the CONNECTION RIGHTS.
Just because you buy a sattelite reciever doesn't mean you can watch sattelite TV. Same principles.
As far as 'sub or purchase' goes, you're wrong there. Pretty much EVERY MMO game has an initial buy cost. Wurm isn't really an MMO, so that doesn't count. EvE Online does (it costs like 20 dollars or so).
If you don't like it, leave. Simple as that. No one is forcing you to play the game.
[editline]01:47AM[/editline]
It has never made sense
Do you know how much it costs to run a server farm to host an MMO?
It's not a happy number.
Is there any combat in Xsyon right now? Any mobs? Any pvp?
Yes, no, yes.
Combat is in the game, but being worked on (Specific weapon speeds need to be tweaked, currently they don't exist)
Mobs are disabled until other stability issues are addressed
PvP is in game already.

Yup, you missed the point. Your example was "you have to pay to get into a movie theatre". Uh no, you pay to see a movie in their establishment. However, you bear NONE of the initial investment of a movie theatre. You walk in, watch a movie, and leave. You don't even have to clean up after yourself so many people just leave their garbage behind like assholes. But to play an MMO, you need to buy a $800+ computer, a monitor, peripherals, probably speakers/headset, pay for internet, then buy the game... but no, you don't even get to own the game, because you ALSO have to pay a subscription fee to access the game. Basically, you just bought nothing. Example: are you one of the poor souls who bought Auto Assault? Just because you bought the game doesn't mean shit. It is unfair that people should be left with a game, ON A DVD, THAT THEY CAN'T USE. Fuck that. Subscription or purchase. And as I said, your analogy SUCKS DICK.
Are you going to say "GTFO" in life when you go to buy a car and they want a deposit and then payments? What about when you buy a house and they want mortgage? Shit costs money.
Again, your analogy sucks dick. When you buy a game, according to you OMG LOL EULA faggots, you don't own anything. When you buy a car or house, THAT SHIT IS YOURS. You simply cannot compare homes/cars and games, they are on two totally separate legal tiers.
You bought the game, but you're paying for the right to play on THEIR servers hosted by THEIR company with THEIR money so you can play YOUR game. It makes perfect sense to buy the GAME and then pay for the CONNECTION RIGHTS.
But it's not "YOUR" game. It's their game, and when you purchase it, according to EULA, you only own a licence. So you buy a licence to play a game... but you can't play it. You must also pay for a subscription to access the game. I call bullshit.
Just because you buy a sattelite reciever doesn't mean you can watch sattelite TV. Same principles.
Actually, you can. But talking about that might get me in some trouble here so I won't.

WURM ISN'T AN MMO!? ARE YOU FOR FUCKING REAL? Well then dipshit, what is it? A fucking FPS? Sweet jesus.... And if you play your cards right, you can play EVE for 21 days, then buy the game and get a free month. Plus, EVE doesn't charge you for expansions.
If you don't like it, leave. Simple as that. No one is forcing you to play the game.
So internet forums are actually supposed to be places where everyone hiveminds and no dissent is allowed? FUCK MY LIFE
Do you know how much it costs to run a server farm to host an MMO?
It's not a happy number.
I helped run a local ISP a few years ago. It's really not that expensive, and that was back when hard drive space and bandwidth were still pretty costly. Now, all that shit is so cheap you could probably run it out of your home with some success.
A little daunting? 40$ is like one meal out on the town or a few beers =\
Heh, I dunno what kind of beer you drink man... but $40 for "a few beers"? Must be some fancy aged ale or something.
I can see where he's coming from. Take World of Warcraft for instance, if only because it's one of the most popular MMO's these days: If you were playing the game from the very start, you'd need to pay roughly $150 for the base game and all of the expansions, not counting the monthly fee. That's one of the reasons I liked EVE Online so much, or any other MMO that offered free updates and expansions. Nonetheless if it's a really enjoyable game, I don't think I'd mind paying for extra content, in fact I've done it for WoW, even though I don't really play it anymore.
With that said, I have high hopes for Xsyon and I personally think it's a worthwhile investment. It's not your usual MMO and by no means is it the same tired fantasy schlock you'd get from most other MMO's on the market.
Last I heard this game was a bunch of pre-rendered Vapourware from people asking for money.
