Xsyon: Prelude (The Wurm Online + Darkfall + Mortal Online + Real World MMO)

All the screenshots were, because they look better than the game itself.
And your retort is idiotic.
Obviously you already HAVe a computer, screen, and internet. You cannot factor that into the cost as you wouldn't even be looking at the game (or this forum) without it. Factoring in the cost of the computer with the cost of the game is like factoring in your glasses/contact lenses prescription cost to the cost of a movie ticket.
Are you going to say "GTFO" in life when you go to buy a car and they want a deposit and then payments? What about when you buy a house and they want mortgage? Shit costs money. You bought the game, but you're paying for the right to play on THEIR servers hosted by THEIR company with THEIR money so you can play YOUR game. It makes perfect sense to buy the GAME and then pay for the CONNECTION RIGHTS.
Just because you buy a sattelite reciever doesn't mean you can watch sattelite TV. Same principles.
As far as 'sub or purchase' goes, you're wrong there. Pretty much EVERY MMO game has an initial buy cost. Wurm isn't really an MMO, so that doesn't count. EvE Online does (it costs like 20 dollars or so).
If you don't like it, leave. Simple as that. No one is forcing you to play the game.
[editline]01:47AM[/editline]
Do you know how much it costs to run a server farm to host an MMO?
It's not a happy number.
[editline]01:48AM[/editline]
Yes, no, yes.
Combat is in the game, but being worked on (Specific weapon speeds need to be tweaked, currently they don't exist)
Mobs are disabled until other stability issues are addressed
PvP is in game already.
its like you read half of something to blindly defend it. try to fucking read everything before you post.
Heh, I dunno what kind of beer you drink man... but $40 for "a few beers"? Must be some fancy aged ale or something.
40 bucks is two days of work. that is alot if you are living on your own. paying all the bills ect.
[editline]09:46PM[/editline]
holy shit it's like flak and tele are two igroant people who won't give up their argument even though they are both wrong. you guys need to take it into pms before you start a fight through the internet and start punching your screens thinking it will hit the other guy.
I can see where he's coming from. Take World of Warcraft for instance, if only because it's one of the most popular MMO's these days: If you were playing the game from the very start, you'd need to pay roughly $150 for the base game and all of the expansions, not counting the monthly fee. That's one of the reasons I liked EVE Online so much, or any other MMO that offered free updates and expansions. Nonetheless if it's a really enjoyable game, I don't think I'd mind paying for extra content, in fact I've done it for WoW, even though I don't really play it anymore.
With that said, I have high hopes for Xsyon and I personally think it's a worthwhile investment. It's not your usual MMO and by no means is it the same tired fantasy schlock you'd get from most other MMO's on the market.
Like I said, other companies follow the stupid hurf durf method of forcing you to buy the game for 50 bucks then 15 dolla after. its because it = more money, and a saftey net if no one fucking plays it.
Can you post videos?
No. I don't have fraps.
Read the OP. I added a link to the official videos thread. There's three pages of videos (around like maybe... 5-10 assorted)

WoW is a shit example of an MMO for cost, really. Aside from Guild Wars, which doesn't have sub fees (and technically isn't an MMO but a multiplayer instanced game without SP) most MMO's don't charge for expansions.

1- I read his post 3 times while writing my retorts.
2- It was probably alpha or something. They haven't commented on it. Definately not a scam though
3- Uh, I don't know where you work but I made 42 dollars in one day working at $1.25 under minimum wage. Was only 7 hours, as well.
4- Not even commenting on this statement.
5- It's not a safety net it pays for server upkeep as well as pays other bills such as utilities, renting the building they work out of, and paying their programmers/artists/developers/sysadmins/etc
Giving am old, stinky, one eyed cook that says he's the best cook in the world $40 dollar to make a feast meal is pretty suspicious. Changes are, he indeed makes a nice meal. However I'd prefer to watch if other poeple enjoy the meal and buy one afterwards.
Yup, you missed the point. Your example was "you have to pay to get into a movie theatre". Uh no, you pay to see a movie in their establishment. However, you bear NONE of the initial investment of a movie theatre. You walk in, watch a movie, and leave. You don't even have to clean up after yourself so many people just leave their garbage behind like assholes. But to play an MMO, you need to buy a $800+ computer, a monitor, peripherals, probably speakers/headset, pay for internet, then buy the game... but no, you don't even get to own the game, because you ALSO have to pay a subscription fee to access the game. Basically, you just bought nothing. Example: are you one of the poor souls who bought Auto Assault? Just because you bought the game doesn't mean shit. It is unfair that people should be left with a game, ON A DVD, THAT THEY CAN'T USE. Fuck that. Subscription or purchase. And as I said, your analogy SUCKS DICK.
Again, your analogy sucks dick. When you buy a game, according to you OMG LOL EULA faggots, you don't own anything. When you buy a car or house, THAT SHIT IS YOURS. You simply cannot compare homes/cars and games, they are on two totally separate legal tiers.
But it's not "YOUR" game. It's their game, and when you purchase it, according to EULA, you only own a licence. So you buy a licence to play a game... but you can't play it. You must also pay for a subscription to access the game. I call bullshit.
Actually, you can. But talking about that might get me in some trouble here so I won't.
WURM ISN'T AN MMO!? ARE YOU FOR FUCKING REAL? Well then dipshit, what is it? A fucking FPS? Sweet jesus.... And if you play your cards right, you can play EVE for 21 days, then buy the game and get a free month. Plus, EVE doesn't charge you for expansions.
So internet forums are actually supposed to be places where everyone hiveminds and no dissent is allowed? FUCK MY LIFE
I helped run a local ISP a few years ago. It's really not that expensive, and that was back when hard drive space and bandwidth were still pretty costly. Now, all that shit is so cheap you could probably run it out of your home with some success.
Actually you don't own a car when you buy it. You don't own it until you make the last payment, same with the house.
Actually I've been grown up with the point of MMO's being the monthly fee, not the purchase.
It's not that I really care, but if the game proves dissapointing for you you've still lost a good 25 dollars + 15 dollars extra for a free month.
If it is even dollars.
I just preordered.

When do I get into Early Access? :D

Alright, I'm still a skeptic of this game and waiting on more informed reviews and videos to come out before I make any decisions... but dude, you're just a fucking troll.
1.25 under minimum wage in your state. i love how people care about how much they make, so much that they refuse to say it over the internet.
I'm making $10.25 an hour, soon to be $10.75 when they add in my raises.
Also, I don't think I'm that interested in this game anymore, I just want to find something open ended and not shit. Yeah, I realized I'm never going to play anything like it :P
I won't be putting my money anywhere near this game until it's proven to exist. Good luck to anybody who actually 'pre-ordered' it, chances are that even if it does exist, it'll be nothing special.
Actually there are some "gameplay" videos, but I don't trust them.
Yeah.. "I don't trust this games existence even though there are people in this forum in the beta and gameplay videos".... Okay? That makes a lot of sense.

I made 6 dollars an hour.

There is a link in the OP that goes right to their official videos thread. There are 3+ pages of videos. Jesus christ, read before you make assumptions
Usually you hear about MMOs months before they're released. It's supposed to be released this month, and I'm just now hearing about it? That can't be a good sign.
While the features are quite impressive, I'm not sure I like how they put the game together graphically. It doesn't look anything like what I would imagine "post apocalyptic" to be. It looks more like a fantasy mmo, and the characters look like pioneers with their coonskin hats and hatchets, but it's supposed to be set in 2013 - where are the guns, cars, and other signs of technology? All I see is a bus mesh.
Wurm online had quite the innovative approach with its huge level of world modification, and I think it's great that more games are going this route. I love feeling like my actions have affected the world in some way. However, that was the only real redeeming quality of Wurm. The textures and models were of poor quality, and the animations were choppy if not nonexistant. The combat was unintuitive, and food/water management became cumbersome when first starting out. Wurm focused almost entirely on the feature of world modification, and everything else suffered.
Darkfall did essentially the same thing, but on the other end of the spectrum. While focusing extensively on the combat aspects of the game, they neglected the crafting system, and overall there wasn't much content aside from the combat skills, which took ages to level anyway.
Here's to hoping that this game will overcome the shortcomings of the games it's based on.

1. It's possible that they didn't want any flaming of vapor ware and such, or maybe they just didn't have the funds for advertising, it has been on forums such as OnRPG since January though.
2. Eh. It doesn't really look like your "Typical Post-apocalyptic" game, but is that really a bad thing? I like to see different takes on the same subject, and my guess for the weapons and such is they got destroyed somehow since there really wouldn't be much to make if it was all there. Maybe we will be able to craft the weapons and cars later in game? Who knows.
EDIT: And for the coon hats and such if everything was destroyed they wanted to find something quick to make clothing with so thats why they resorted to animal hides and ect... Just my idea though :/
No comment on the others :P

1. Xsyon is based in 2013, yeah. Xsyon isn't just Xsyon right now though. Xsyon is in the Prelude stage beginning once it is released.
2. If a huge Cataclysm is destroying things right before your eyes, would you grab your gun and run, or would you just run?
3. The place it is based at with the location, most people wouldn't have guns wandering around in the place, especially if shit is being fucked over.
4. The place is isolated off by deadly shit that noone can survive in after they ran for their lives.
5. Again, Xsyon is in Prelude stage once released, which means that the players will decide where the game goes. It could take time for someone to discover the process of inventing a weapon with the leftover scraps that people scavenge for in the wilderness. Things will be introduced whenever players discover them. Evolution. Evolution. Evolution.

They wanted a small, quiet release so they could keep a close relationship between Devs and Players so they could develop the game in a more intimate relationship with the players.

Any news on this? I heard people who preordered at march 2nd can play now.
Also I've seen they are patching like crazy.
Have you tried crafting Tele?
Is it worth preordering then?
I want 2 months free if it's good.
And can I get access to it now?

They released the second wave of invites. I missed it by ONE day (pre ordered on the 3rd) but that's OK. I can still play on my alliance mate's account. Yes, they are patching a lot. Fixing a ton of bugs and putting in new stuff. There's a patch at least once a day.
I've tried gathering. So far I've seen grass, dirt, logs, large logs (more like a quarter of a felled tree), granite, limestone, water, sandstone, twigs, branches, and a few others. I've looked at Toolcrafting, Weaponcrafting, and Boneworking, but not yet done anything (haven't found the tools yet).
It looks pretty in depth.

I think so, yes. It's only 40 dollars and you get 2 months free (that's 30 dollars right there). So you save around 57%.
As far as access NOW, no. The third wave of releases MIGHT reach April, but probably not. There's been a LOT more preorderers since they let the first wave in and videos started popping up. You might get in 3rd to 5th wave. Maybe sooner though.
