This would work pretty awesome with the TF2 story.
This would work pretty awesome with the TF2 story.
Some sort of team propaganda or something. Radio dramas were still going strong in the 1950's, right?
Yes, but I do believe that TF2 takes place in the 60's.
From what we know it's generally in the early 60s. (calenders in the game are mostly the basis of this assumption but there's some possibly reliable evidence like weapons)
An idea, perhaps:
Scene: 1 SOUND: AMBIENT NOISES; BIRD CHIRPING; FADE IN BATTLE NOISES FROM TEAM FORTRESS 2 SCOUT Watch out! SOUND: ROCKETS EXPLODING; SENTRY BEEPS SNIPER Wasn't that a close one. SCOUT Close? Man, I've seen worse- once, I was behind the enemy lines, and I saw this... line of soldiers! And they were just marching and I-- ENGINEER Please, son, I am sure we would all love to hear your story another time. SOUND: ROCKETS DESTROYING A SENTRY ENGINEER Darnit- SENTRY DOWN! SNIPER Someone needs to take care of that endless supply of soldiers. I sure I could get a couple o' shots in that enemy sentry and sniper, if it weren't for the constant stream of rockets. SCOUT Hey, fellas. I can do this. Just watch! SOUND: SCOUT'S LAUGH, EXPLOSION, SCOUT'S SCREAM ENGINEER Well, there goes our scout... again.

An idea, perhaps:
It's pretty good, it's convenient that we have the game files for us to use for the sounds, though we're gonna need someone who's really good at doing their voices.
It's pretty good, it's convenient that we have the game files for us to use for the sounds, though we're gonna need someone who's really good at doing their voices.
There are a lot of websites where you can find talented voice actors. Yeppers.
I like the idea already. I have nothing to help with, so I'll just watch satisfyingly from the side.
Here is the story I have written so far Murder at Mann Co.! A Radio Murder Mystery Comedy-Drama Starring Valveville's best detective, Elliot Garland Story Written by Sean Martin Our story begins on December 27, 1968. just five days until New Years eve. A cold December afternoon. The sky was cloudy, and the air a smell of sulfer that always breezes through the city from the Mann Co. building. It had been a hard month, not a case come up since the Turkey murderer plagued the forest districts. Not a dame stepped into my office since last year. At the top of that, the heater broke again and it's colder than a witches tit. (don't ask how I know). I was just contemplating quitting being a detective when all of a sudden there was a knock at the door. I beckoned the stranger into my office, but the stranger apparently felt it best to crash through the door. I quickly dashed behind my desk and pulled out my snub nose expecting it to be one of my enemies. I calmly asked the stranger to put his hands up which he did. From the dust I could only make out a giant, gorrila-esque shape. His arms were gargantuan! When the dust cleared I saw to my surprise that the gentleman who had crashed through my door was none other than Saxton Hale, the CEO of Mann Co. I asked him why the violent entry? According to Mr. Hale my door was giving him a funny look. I immediately cut to the chase. I asked what did he want with someone like me. He then pulled an envolope from his pocket. I pulled the letter out and read it aloud, “Dear Saxton Hale, Im coming for you, you fucking swine! You cut me out big time on a big deal for me. Well, I'll have the last laugh come this New Year's Eve at Midnight. Your company will burn down to the ground and you'll take a nice dirt nap. See you at your party Mr. Hale. Love, Your greatest fear P.S. I know it's late, but I hope you liked your Christmas Present I left in your office this morning.” Of course with most of these threat letters they are made with letters cut out from magazines and such. But it makes it clear why Saxton came for me. Someone out there has a Vendetta against Hale for some trivial reason. Saxton wanted me to come with him to Mann Co. and Protect him in the coming days. I figured it's been a while since I had my last case and I was in dire need of Money. I asked about the reward, $1,000,000 cold hard cash. That could pay, for starters, a new door! Or even better, a new office! I took the case and told him I'll be at his place before 10pm. With that Saxton jumped and crashed through my floor, and the other five floors down. I packed my cleanest clothes, my gun, and my “tools” into my suitcase. Being careful to walk around the hole in my floor I grabbed my trenchcoat and fedora and walked through the Hale sized hole that was once my door, and down the stairs and outside to my 1963 Ford Galaxie and drove off to my biggest case I had ever gotten. Words could never describe the Mann Co. Tower. But at least the writer can try to describe it. It looks like if you took a hunters ego, gave it all the money in the world, and the ego told the construction workers to built a tower that will make the Empire statebuilding seek a self help book. That's the Mann Co. Tower.
-snip-
I like it, but the last sentence seems as if when you say 'hunter's ego' and say he told the builders to build it huge, it seems the hunter's ego part gets nullified. Feel free to argue against me.

It would be better if it was in script form...
It would be better if it was in script form...
I figure write the story first then use it to write the writing.
IDK. For some reason, when I think of this HL2 Radio Drama concept, I think of Triage at Dawn sounding a tad little like this: as an old-time intro chord or something. Its not supposed to be a full song. I don't know what you can call it, I did not use the default piano setting on the keyboard.
That's interesting... I'm going to put a post in some voice acting websites, looking for actors. I'm working on a small script for a HL2 based one. Maybe we could get something done.
That reminds me I havn't been working on my story all week. I still gotta get to work on that.
I adore this idea.
I want to know you guys opnion on this:
SCENE: 1 ENGINEER (flashback) I remember very well the first day. It was another normal day in July. Really hot. Nothin' special. Except for the fact that this was my first day at work. I had to take a plane to the other side of the darn country. And waiting for me, there it was... a black van with a couple of scaring looking fellas driving it. And one little guy on the backseat. SOUND: VAN DRIVING SCOUT (scared) H-hello. ENGINEER Hello son. I suppose it's your first day too? SCOUT Yeah, yeah. You're here for the d-demolitions job? ENGINEER Yep. Could not resist that job offer. (short laugh) SCOUT Oh yeah, a really g-good offer. "RED is now looking for new employees. Anyone with experience on rockets and explosives, fire, engineering and interested in working on the newest technologies in the demolition business, contact us now." ENGINEER Mighty funny that ad. For one second, I thought it was a communist ad. You know, evil russians wanting to destroy democracy. Heh. But my wife told me that these kind of companies are what move the country. She's very patriotic, y'know?... What's yer name, son? SCOUT Who, me? ENGINEER No, son, Davy Crocket- of course, you! SCOUT Oh, I'm MAN (talks over scout) We should be arriving soon. Are you both prepared? ENGINEER Like the day I was born. That's a mighty fine name you got there, boy. I hope we can have a heck of a time working together. SCOUT Y-yeah. Same.
So, what do you think?
As someone who listens to a lot of radio drama (Navy Lark, Hitchhiker's, War of the Worlds et cetera) I can safely say that the narrative of valve games wouldn't work well in the format.
As someone who listens to a lot of radio drama (Navy Lark, Hitchhiker's, War of the Worlds et cetera) I can safely say that the narrative of valve games wouldn't work well in the format.
Except for games like TF2, which don't really have an in-game narrative. That could easily be adapted, since most of the writing in TF2 consists in character interactions, something that mainly happens through audio. The idea for the first episode in a TF2 series would be to establish three main things: the setting (torn between 1956 or 1963), the characters (who they are, where do they come from, and why are they working at RED) and RED, the company itself. The idea would be that they were hired by RED, a facade company for the actual RED. While they think they're going to work for the demolitions company, they are hired as assassins thanks to their past work (like, perhaps, Medic's work in WWII). It would be something like this: - Engineer begins with a flashback - Engi's first (and only) ride to work with Scout - Getting there, description of the place - Special note as to how there were no roads nearby - Meeting with co-workers - Everyone introduces itself except for Medic, Spy and Pyro (they are not there) - Scout flashback, with introduction of Scout's Mom - Medic appears, introducing himself, welcoming the new assassins - Engineer questions Medic- aren't they working for a demolitions company? - Medic says that they were hired for their past work, and mentions how funny it is that everyone except Scout was hired for their past work in wars - Medic reveals that the company had obtained their background information, knowing even what squad Heavy belonged to - Spy reveals himself, saying he was the one that obtained their background info, notes that Sniper was "the hardest" - Medic then ends the episode by revealing the true objective of the "company"
What about the announcer lady? You think, they would go over the recruitment process? Also, I am interested the most in the part of the story that explains why their target is a team that is exactly like them, except Blu.
People still broadcast radio dramas?
yes actually. also sorry, I've been getting distracted and procrastinating on that story I was working on.
