• An Open Discussion for Facepunch : Why The hostility towards younger gamers playing games we like?

From my perspective, it's not that all kids are annoying gamers, but that a lot of annoying people I've seen online were young children.
I was completely shy to use a mic when I was younger because I tough people would tease me for my low-pitch voice. I'm glad I never used it now.
What's way way worse than that is the fact that nice young people are automatically generalized. Older players are overly elitist and rude to younger players regardless of whether they've actually done anything wrong.
HEY GUYS CAN YOU HEAR ME CAN YOU HEAR ME HEY HEY HEY HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA That's why.
They are usually annoying as shit, and always seem to have a god damn microphone. But even when they don't, their age usually allows for immaturity, which generally means idiocy and the grammatical skills of a stump. Have yet to encounter a 14 year old or younger that hasn't been a complete nuisance in a video game.
12 year olds and above can be okay, but watch the fuck out for anyone younger... Those kids >12 years old tend to always be little shits no matter what. And before you ask, no, little kiddies isn't a console problem. It's fucking universal everywhere, from PC to consoles. Play Counter Strike and you will see what I mean. [editline]30th August 2011[/editline] I'm not going to mention Gmod... We all know that the ratio of Kiddies to Mature people is high as fuck.
OMG U SUCK NOOB PICK UP A WEEL GUN I've been in so many games with this, or kids screaming/crying/raging over Microphone. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] I've even had 4 kids all argue against each other over Microphone.
This video should resolve this debate.
sounds like you're a mexican jew lizard
If you have reason to suspect someone might be 12 they're doing something wrong.
Kids are fine when they're reasonable and mature, although I'm sure behavior varies depending on the game and the community. When there are a lot of kids playing Black Ops while I'm watching my brother, often I can't even stand to stay in the same room; on the other hand, all of the kid squad members I've had in Project Reality are some of the greatest I've ever played with. Kids in online games are the same as anyone else- some can be boorish and crude, while others can be level-headed, friendly and smart. It's stupid to treat young players as a distinct subgroup because their personalities vary just as much as anyone else's. Would you say "all college-aged gamers are x", or "all middle-aged men are x", or "all women gamers are x"? We all know people of the same demographic that are our best friends, who we'd like to strangle at a given opportunity, or in-between. Young players are no different.
As long as they act mature I'm fine. If they go whining about then I'm annoyed. If they're not acting mature, being stupid (Which is usually the case) then they can shut up.
I'll admit that was 9 when I first played an online FPS. Half-Life Deathmatch. Everyone hated me, and I never understood why. Looking back, it was for 3 reasons. A. My voice resembled a cat being pulled slowly through a woodchipper, tail-to-head. B. I was not very good at all. Always at the bottom of the scoreboard. C. I whined. A lot. A-FEAKING-LOT. Dying to the rocket launcher, getting headshot from across the map, grenade spam, ect. That had to be the worst part. THOSE are the three reason people have/will/should continue to hate on young gamers. It is the only way they will get better.
I do it ,because its basically internet hazing until your balls drop and you voice gets deeper. Then you are a respected member of the gaming community.
Kids that act like adults and play the game = Perfectly fine. I treat them like anyone else. Kids that act like kids and make my ears bleed as they squeal like banshees into microphones = Not fine. The same goes for adults whining. It isn't just kids. Kids are just more likely to act up, and when they do, the voice makes it worse.
Actually, sucking on purpose when playing with the steriotypical whiny kid is really, really hilarious.
being 12 and after hanging out with a community of older people (that didn't particularly like me) i nailed down the 3 key aspects of a fucking annoying 12 year old, and consciously tried to not do them. 1. being very outspoken 2. having a very high voice 3. being really defiant intentionally in a sort of "fuck the police" fashion i don't use the mic that often, but when i go on servers with it on and they ask me to get off it, i do. i don't leave my mic open so that every comment i make doesnt go through, because i make a lot of "wow that guy sucks" comments aloud when playing games. just came in to say that not all of us are like the whiny black ops players you encounter day after day.
Seriously, I'm 13 and my friends find more immature adults than kids. How about listening to men yelling out "WOWOWOOWO TAT WUS A HAADD SCOUPE MANNN LOSARR LITEL WHINY BITTCH" or "DRUP YUR BALZ AND LERN TO STOP CAMPING" Sometimes, we find cool adults who focus on the game and cooperate with us.
for the same reason we think we're hot shit because of our join date/post count/name color.
I try to be nice to everyone in online games, including the younger players. But sometimes they do things that just make you want to beat your head over your keyboard. That goes for adults, too - some people are just stupid. Sometimes I find myself about to make fun of a younger kid, and then I think: hey, you were 12 at one point and playing these games too - give him a break.

I hate it when they scream, but I don't attack them. Instead, I use this useful feature called "the mute button"
I'm 15 myself, and due to my voice and attitude everybody thinks im 20+ and have a job Wish that was true :(
I only be rude to younger gamers, if A) They are being assholes first B) Think mom jokes are funny C) Spam the same shit in a fighting game D) Think they're better then me/everyone E) They kick you just because you think X is bad/horrible/stupid F) They act like they're weapons experts, when they play CoD G) Who say they "H3v r331 w3p0n5 1n th3r r00m" So yeh :V
They talk a lot more, which I don't mind if it's not just annoying babble, and they have more annoying voices which are somehow even more annoying when being picked up by a mic and broadcast into the internet. [editline]30th August 2011[/editline]
B) Think mom jokes are funny
I think mom jokes are funny...in a Hurr Durr kind of way.
This thread is kind of interesting, seeing how my 13 year old brother handles games surprisingly maturely, and he even uses a mic.
I think mom jokes are funny...in a Hurr Durr kind of way.
That's acceptable, but i'm talking about kids who use it like it's the only joke in existence.
My voice got pretty deep when I was young. So when I was playing Halo 2 at the age of 13 or something, it must have sounded like a 18 year old screaming and almost crying everytime getting killed. Oh god I used to be so fucking annoying in games.
I'm glad to say I've never ever spoken into a mic.
Most of them are assholes and whiny kids. For example, after TF2 being F2P, i always have to mute everyone, because everytime i don't i have to hear 10 years old dumbasses calling everyone noobs or complaining how something is OP after they get killed by it.
I dont mind kids playing games, as long as they dont use microphones, and dont spam with stupid memes and complaining
