Mabinogi Megathread v1 - Look past the "Kawaii Desu"

I just tried to do it "for serious" one last time. I managed to get a dragon horn by about 11:00 left, and used it on their base to get rid of their crystal. Meanwhile the rest of my team is busy running around in circles while the red team heads over to our base and camps our merchant with racoons. So it's literally 8vs2 at our main base, with them all sniping me from what is almost literally (on my client) halfway across the map with no way to buy anything at the store or pick up gold because i'm "too far to do that". As soon as I die i backflip all the way to where I was on the server, and it's usually a very large distance.

That settles it then. AFK all day every day.

Yeah but that makes your team 1/8th more likely to lose. Plus, it really pisses people off, namely myself.

What the hell was nexon thinking when they made an event that gives you 100k exp? I did that 5 times for the daily quest (won all of them, guess I'm lucky) and now I have a level 60 character at age 10. Usually you won't hear me complain but apparently gaining a whole bunch of levels at a time only counts as one level up, so now I'm like as strong as a level 15 character and need 10 times as much the exp to level up. Doesn't even give you the proper AP either. Thankfully I can still rebirth in 24h but what the hell where they thinking

Uh, you get the full AP for every single level you went up. You also are legit a level ~60 character and "as powerful as one", if you were to train it normally you would be the same.

Levels mean very little in this game; skills are where your true power lies.

Well I guess that's an exception for me because I checked and I only got 1 ap after gaining 13 levels at once. My stats were nearly the same and the wolves south of tir were still labeled as "boss". Unless they changed the thing where you gain more stats the younger you are when you level up, I haven't checked

I highly doubt you only got 1 AP after leveling 13 times, but if you say so.

The wolves say "boss" because your [url=http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/view/Combat_power]combat power[/url] is still very low.

Your level barely affects your combat power at all, because all it does is increase your base stats which only minutely changes the % modifiers of damage. For example, every 20 int only gives you 1% more magic attack power. A level 100 player with rank novice/F in all of their skills is vastly weaker than a level 1 player with rank 5-1 in their skills.

For example, my character is level 81 right now. Even after spending 366 AP points my combat power is only [url=http://mabination.com/tools_cp_elf.php]860[/url]; my character has the strength of a [url=http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/view/Gray_Coyote#Gray_Coyote]gray coyote[/url].

Have you tried adjusting your MTU? Mabinogi has horrible netcode, so it's basicly required for most combos.

You get more AP per level the younger you are, I believe.

Oh wow, I googled that along with negle's algororithm now combat is actually viable for me
mabinogi might be a cool game but technically speaking it's awful both for his netcode and other things

My laptop miraculously survived switching to Channel 1. I must say, it feels really really different. It's way way way more lively than the other channels, there are people everywhere, and it's really cool. But I still miss channel 3 camping in Dunby.

Is 'Lilirith' an FP'er? He/she has been helping me a lot recently.

I replaced the game's BGM with Ragnarok Online's, Emain Macha with Al De Baran's theme is just perfect and Dugard Aisle with 'Peaceful Forest' is awesome as well. The music blends with the game perfectly. It was thankfully simple to replace since the music files are .mp3 by default.

Also, people should flock to Emain Macha instead of Dunby or Tir Chonaill after the event, it's like the prettiest city in the game, with its ports and stuff, but it's too empty.

They gotta be fucking lying, I just tried and I couldn't even defeat one I lured away from the rest while transed into (rank 8) Paladin with my best equipment.

A single 2 hit combo knocked me down to below half health. I don't understand.

I can solo them.

I just 5-charge firebolt them for 800-1000dmg. Rank 1 firebolt is great; after I hit them with the 5-charge I can just do single charges, "juggle" them, and they'll die without ever touching me.

If I ever get more than 1 on me at once I just run back into the room before the boss room, and get them stuck on the doorway so I have time to charge my firebolt to max charge again.

I was starting off my G2 quests when I had to do Barri dungeon as part of training
imagine my surprise when instead of the 10 kobold miners I was supposed to face, I realise i'd been running Barri Normal and i was now face to face with 5 ogre warriors packing 2k hp each

Same here, when I first started, I watched people who duel all the time and thought, "Hey, I don't see any alchemist, mage, or puppeteers here. Their skills must be p. weak compared to melee". So I built my character pure warrior, with some lance skills. Even though my warrior skills are ranked at 6-9, lance charge still does more damage than anything :U

When I use swords on mobs, I use normal attacks (wishing for crits) and hope for the best, then counterattack in rare cases where they live after a full on combo without crits, since my smash is not good for multiple mobs (which is the case everytime), and my windmill is rank F.

Also, why did the devs ever think that having an AOE skill where you still have to target something close to you in order to activate it is good? How do you guys use windmill. I always find myself getting hit by a combo everytime I attempt to windmill, I only ever use it to break counter.

Now I'm pretty much traumatized by dungeons and my inability to go through them without dying at least thrice. Everytime I get a quest, I wish, no more dungeons please.

the best advice I was ever given as a beginner way back in Mabi EU was "always train windmill while you're low levelled, or you'll feel it later"

Use windmill as an opener, if you level it up enough it may soon be enough to finish them. Use it to break counter but if you're really struggling to make it work use it on mimics. Don't hit those chest things, walk beside them and activate windmill.

also smash can deal splash damage at rank 5+
if I'm hitting 1.2k criticals with smash then that splashing to nearby enemies is do a lot for me.

remember that combat is a slightly complex take on rock paper scissors - smash for defense but also for initiating a fight. Counter for smash, or just straight up autoattacking. Defense for ranged if theres no way you'll reach them. Windmill for counter or when you're mobbed

just go spam the snowball event. with the fixed fights people are doing, you'll be able to make 100k back just from the gold reward no problem.

I noticed a goblin archer charging magnum at the last minute and I had no evade skill and I didn't have my shield equipped for shield charge. I used defense and died in one hit x.x

Do the Snowball Fight event in Dunbarton Channel 1. Even if you lose all the games, you'll at least get 65k an hour. If you win them all, you could get 80-100k an hour.

magnum shot is the ranged equivalent of smash. if they're loading that, your best bet is to either run out of range or run right up to them.

goblin multi-spawn rooms are a bitch until you get high rank windmill, tho

when I played on Macha server on EU (I keep reminiscing about my Mabi EU days, sigh) we were the smaller of the two servers to the point where at one time pretty much everyone knew each other.

We used the forums to host a small party of sorts in Emain Macha square
few hours just all of Macha sharing food playing songs fashion contests
back when people used to actually sit around a campfire if you put one down
