Mabinogi Megathread v1 - Look past the "Kawaii Desu"
Kinda funny, considering if I try to do beginner on my mage she dies.
Which in my book means you suck.
You've gotten too used to your very powerful main, and when you're faced with something you can't win so willy-nilly easy, you fail.
In addition, mages aren't that viable on their own anyways. They're more useful as support characters than ones that can do anything on their own since so many magic skills take time to charge, while most close combat skills charge instantly. Archer skills also charge faster.
Mages are really only viable on their own when they learn stuff like Thunder, Ice Spear and Fireball, which can do loads of damage to a cluster of enemies.

But my mage can kill a Black Bear the Ancient?
But my mage can kill a Black Bear the Ancient?
Luck, perhaps?
I'm just saying I've rarely lost to those beginner shadow missions, on any character, alone.
The times I did lose were usually lag/computer freezing induced or me not paying enough attention to what I was doing.
So I'm guessing if I delete my character, I won't be able to go on Alexina? Because it stated something about stupid player cards when I tried deleting it.
If you have no characters on your account and you relog you are given a free character card
If you have no characters on your account and you relog you are given a free character card
That must be new.
I mean since I started.
That must be new.
It's been there since beta.
It's been there since beta.
That's odd, I used to hear problems about players who accidentally deleted all their characters and couldn't get new ones...
I must be thinking of a different game then.
Is NA still laggy as hell for EU players?
I miss playing Mabi EU but fuck Nexon for pulling that shit.

Maybe there was a bug at one point, but I distinctly remember doing it in the beta, and I even did it earlier to make these new characters on alexina.
But you need to wait until 7AM pacific time in order to "fully delete" your character, so it's usually easier to just make a new account as you said.

Oh. I just figured out how to calculate when the chests disappear.
They run on a timer of 40 "in-game minutes".
So they disappear at 3:00, 3:40, 4:20, 5:00, etc.
The odd numbers (1,3,5,7) are always at o'clock, so it's easy to remember the pattern that way.
If the hour is an odd number, it will disappear at :00 and :40.
If the hour is an even number, it will disappear at :20.
It may or may not change when the server gets restarted, so i'll check when that happens next.
Yep. After the server restart it disappears at 3:10, 3:50, 4:30, 5:10 etc
That's annoying.
All of the channels seem to run on the same timer as well.
Is the game still going and worth trying? I used to play a long time ago but then stopped, might rejoin.
Feeling kind of pissed that I lost my free Thoroughbred now
Nexon gib dragon pls

Can someone tell me the most efficient RB cycle?
Last time I played free RBs weren't even a thing
if you want to pay for rbs, once every month or so is well worth it
some people do once every 2 weeks which would definitely hike the cost up in the long run but if you have nothing else to spend on go for it
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
Yeah but you can sucker them out for free shit
If I don't feel like doing that I just tell them I have a dick
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
Just played the fighter quest where one of the girls tells you this depressing story about how her father died of an illness
I accidentally selected the option that basically said "don't care lol"
fuck

Mabi has one of the best MMO communities imo
all my decisions were cold hearted so i wouldnt have to cook anything
more monsters at the end was easy compared to cooking :V

Why would you pay for a rebirth every month when you can get a free rebirth every 3 irl weeks if you rebirth to age 17?
And if you're below 100 cumulative in both explore/level you can rebirth every 24 irl hours.
And i'm pretty sure free Rebirths existed back in beta once you reached age 20. As far as i'm aware it's always been like that.

you do the free rb, wait a week, then pay for the rebirth every month
slightly faster if you can get a good grind in that week
also free rebirths at age 20 didn't exist until G4-6(pioneers of iria)

Ah, but was the <100 cumulative rebirth still there? That is what I might be remembering.
All I know is that I quit mabinogi shortly after closed beta for some reason, and a restrictive rebirth system might've been why.

Okay seriously, I keep finding useless statues around la terra highlands. Anyone know where the treasure chests are?

I'm guessing they're along the northern beach area.
edit: i'm retarded

nope, the daily rebirth before level 100 was added sometime last year, i think g15
the game started off being horribly p2w but over time has gotten better and better
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
in fact, you couldn't even do the main storyline quests unless you had a subscription when the game started. this was changed in either g3 or pioneers of iria.
R.I.P Bahbz. An ogre got a hold of her.

It wasn't a pretty sight.

Just checked my beta character, which I remember I tried going back and playing on a few times over the years.
Rebirthed him 3 times in 5 years.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/oAkWc.jpg[/t]
His skill distribution is a mess.
I don't remember rebirthing 50 days ago though. Oh wait, yea I tried getting some friends to play it with me back then.
Half of them couldn't even get it to run for whatever reason.
I notice all this talk of rebirth, so I feel the need to ask this. What exactly is rebirth, and what does it do?
I notice all this talk of rebirth, so I feel the need to ask this. What exactly is rebirth, and what does it do?
It resets your both base and exploration level back to one so you can gain more AP for each level up.
My impatience for the Facepunch Guild is starting.
Downloaded this on steam, currently trying to convince friends to play with me.

You need AP to increase the rank of your skills. If you have high ranked skills, you're a lot more powerful. You can only get AP from leveling, gaining exploration levels, aging, and a fair amount of quests. People rebirth so they can get more AP from leveling and aging.
Aging takes a week for 1 year, and you get 1 AP per year. You don't get anymore AP from aging once you reach age 26. You can rebirth for free once you reach age 20, or after 24 irl hours if neither your "cumulative level" or "cumulative exploration level" is 99+. Otherwise it'll cost a minimum of 7900NX(~$7.9).
The higher your level, the longer it will take to increase it, and thus take longer to gain more AP. The level cap is 100, and the exploration level cap is 25. That means in a single lifetime you can only get 125 AP from leveling.
Quests are a finite source of AP as you can't redo them.
Thanks to rebirthing you can choose to reset your level & exploration level back to 1 keeping all of your inventory, skills, quests, and AP. This means you can continue to gain AP from leveling and aging and thus increase your skill ranks. But it also makes you temporarily weaker because your stats are that of a level 1 newb again.
If you want to be fairly powerful early on, I highly suggest you abuse the fuck out of free rebirth when starting a new character and leveling up both your exploration & normal levels at the same time. If you get them both to 98 over the course of a week, you'll have tons of AP to spend on a single skill and get it up to "Rank 1". However, it'll make the start of the game pretty boring as you'll have to do a lot of exploration grinding.
It resets your both base and exploration level back to one so you can gain more AP for each level up.
in addition, it resets the stats you get from leveling up(you get +1 all stats every level not counting destinies)
certain skills, when ranked up, add to your base stats
Your Total Combat Power is:
1032.2
God dammit.
Saw this game on the Steam list, probably going to end up downloading it later today.
The combat system looks pretty unique, hope it isn't filled with hackers like other Nexon games.
To add to the rebirth discussion:
You can do paid rebirths once a real life week.
If you are going to buy a character card to rebirth, it has to be the same as the character you are rebirthing. You can't use an Elf or Giant card to rebirth a Human or vice versa. You also cannot rebirth from one species to a different one.
The $25 destiny card rebirths/creates your character and I think outright gives them Rank F in most of the skills tied to that destiny if you don't have them already. Not really worth it.
They sometimes have more expensive themed cards, like recently they had "Bell Fox" character cards. These create/rebirth a character and puts a special costume/item in their inventory. The resulting costume/item is sometimes tradeable and usually fetches a decent sum from other players.
Oh god. I feel so sorry for this guy.
I walked into port cobh to finish off a quest objective, when all of a sudden some player called out my name.
I stopped until he got closer. He was a knight, and had a backpack from the trading post on his back.
That was when he said, "Help how do i get out of here, i've been stuck here for 6 hours".
I decided to show him the way to dunbarton, told him a little about the commerce system, and showed him where the moongate was. The moon gate was shut off, and he hadn't even finished the beginner quests yet, so he didn't have a horse and couldnt' teleport back to tir chonaill even if he wanted to. Thankfully I had a waxen wing that led to tir chonaill for some reason, so I teleported him there.
I'm now sitting here in alby dungeon lobby while he completes the beginner quest.
Fighter with lag is both a blessing and a curse, my moves keep stopping halfway, and the focus strike doesn't move my character, so it acts like a ranged attack, but on the other hand, rubber banding up the ass. I miss the EU server, having a ping below 200 was lovely.
