He is an Imperial Guardsmen whose platoon was sent to the wrong planet via some sort of Chaos trickery. He is the only one who survived the first night due to most of the others were preoccupied with their new-found ability to level trees with their fists when the creepers showed up. Like any good Gaurdsman, he was busy digging a hole, which he quickly covered with the seemingly blocky dirt he had just removed.
Next morning, when the sun rose and he saw the blown up husk of his platoon's dropship in all its blocky bits, the vast area of craters and square body parts of his previously whole comrades, and finally the fact that the sun was a square; he was pretty much like:
