how do I make a 1x3 trapdoor using hatches with a lever above and below? I am trying to make it completely hidden with the exception of the levers. I cannot find very much useful tutorials on Youtube.

Im working on it. I got an idea just give me an hour or more.
EDIT: I found a small and compact way but The bottom will not close if the top one was activated. I think I just thought of a fix.
EDIT: EDIT: Yeah I couldnt figure it out, sorry. I might try later though.
Bumping to post some tutorial videos on Redstone gates, hopefully this will be helpful for those who don't like looking at text-based tutorials. I realise there's many video tutorials, but I thought we'd give it a go ourselves.
How can I make a clock that can be turned on and off with a lever?
I'm most likely late, but I'm just too lazy to check.
I = inverter L = lever *= redstone

You'll need an XOR gate for that;

What happened to this thread?
I have a question. Is it possible to power upward-facing pistons from underneath, somehow?

Like that?
on top of a redstone torch

That doesn't quite work with what I'm doing. I need a 2x2 square of upward pistons to be toggleable, with the output directly underneath the pistons.
It's probably impossible, but if there is a way, it would be helpful.

I'm really useless with advanced redstone stuff, sorry.

No problem. I only need it for compactness. My dry dock works without it.

meh any1 got a redstone idea theyd like to see made? i cant think of anything crazy atm
I have the same question as bi0hazard, any help?

A stairway to heaven using pistons to deploy them from the ground upward. You wanted crazy.
I have the same question as bi0hazard, any help?
I did something like this once with a 2x3 group of pistons. Basically, if there is a solid block under the piston, and there is a repeater pointing at each individual block one vertical layer below the unextended pistons, when they are powered, the pistons will rise. I'll get pictures in a second.

Works with any length as long as they are 2 wide.
My redstone torches randomly seem to be burning out, does anyone know what causes a torch to burn out?

If your torches are receiving signals too fast, they burn out.

I had a similar issue once.
If your torches are receiving signals too fast, they burn out.
I've had an issue once where it completely ruined my plans for a hidden passageway.
A torch on the side of a block with redstone on top and another block ontop of the torch.
B- Block
R-Redstone
T-Torch

I'm guessing the torch is powering the block above it sending a signal to the redstone which toggles the torch again...So basically every tick the redstone torch is toggling. But dangit, that broke everything I was trying to achieve. I had to settle for another method..
Is there anyway to connect a door to TNT, or having a block removed complete a circuit of somesort?
Use pistons for that.
Is there anyway to connect a door to TNT, or having a block removed complete a circuit of somesort?
You can't directly make opening a door blow up dynamite, but you can put a pressure plate in front of the door and put tnt a block below the pressure plate, it would work because everyone uses pressure plates for automatic doors so a pressure plate there wouldn't seem out of the ordinary.
As for the block removed...
Redstone repeaters can carry a signal through a block. Meaning that if you aim one at the block, then have a block [disclaimer: the block can't be glass] and then have redstone after the block, when you power the repeater it will also transmit power to the other side. This also works in reverse, the repeater could be on the recieving end and the circuit would still work fine.
If you add an inverter, you could have it so that current initially travels through the block, and then causes the redstone signal to turn off a little bit later. This way, when you destroy the block, the original current would stop flowing, but the current from the inverter would then turn on, which you could then use to power anything you want.

If it is a single block, you could wire an inverter using the fact that blocks transmit power,
power--------b------inv-------tnt
b=block
inv=inverter
tnt=duh.
If you want redstone power going downwards without using much space (only a 3 blocks wide shaft) use this:

if you want I can upload this world, It has got several redstone contraptions, including several failed piston doors :v:

Wouldn't that be 3 blocks wide?
oh shit I can't count :v:
you're right.

Do I win a prize?
that's better in 2 ways:
1 It's smaller
2 it requires less torches
[editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
3 that makes it go faster, since the power doesn't have to switch so much

For stuff like this, there really needs to be a vertical redstone block.

I guess 2 blocks wide is small enough for most things, so I don't think it would be required.
