S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread - Taste vanilla before you add sprinkles~

Good day STALKER thread. I think this is my first time posting here, but I have few questions.
I'm currently playing CoP vanilla with difficulty just before the master. I think I am about to get done with checking every fallen helicopter. I'd like to ask much I have completed ? I have put almost a week into this, finding artifacts, buying better stuff, being as careful with everything as I possibly could be. I don't want to rush it but I'm just wondering, am I near the end with main quest or am I far far away.
Secondly, If I should ever(if ever) complete the main quest and get bored with vanilla, what mod should I get. I'd like to see more variety and difficulty, like more random events, other stalkers inventory being different, making me even more careful and precise ( I remember playing some ShoC mod where ammo was very scarce - I liked that.)
Also to show off, I have to play with 8500GT. Looks still nice though.

I didn't intend to be pageking.

*Just the helicopters? Hell, you haven't even been in Pripyat. I can't tell you a percentage, but generally Pripyat took me more time than the helicopters did.
Secondly, I think Redux is pretty good.
I just fought a living soviet-era liquid fuel container with an integrated malfunctioning high-speed bullet dispenser

Did it have two top-mounted turboshaft engines driving a mid-mounted 17.3 m five-blade main rotor and athree-blade tail rotor with two mid-mounted stub wings ?

I played SoC on an 8500gt and got like 20-30 FPS on low, how does it even manage to run CoP?
Wait, 8500gt... was thinking of the wrong card. :v: I got like 30 FPS on max with that at 1440x900. My old laptop was the 20 FPS on low...

and you want no trouble
Secondly, I think Redux is pretty good.
If Redux is what it promises on MODDB page then I think I have that problem solved.

I don't even know. I completed the ShoC about a year ago, and I remember even having some shader mod on. Had no problems with that, even though I dont know how much the FPS was it was pretty smooth.
CoP on the other hand has some FPS drops when there are too many flashlights on. Also it sometimes freezes for a second or so.
800x600,Static light, preset is set to maximum, but no AA.
SoC without shader mod gave me terrible frames on my 6570, but with shader mod I could run it at about max.
CoP though, I have to keep it on "Full Dynamic Lighting" or i'll drop to around 20 FPS at certain points with everything set to medium, and either way there's still the infamous stuttering while moving.
I want to finish CoP, but when I have to choose between ugly CoP, laggy CoP, or purdy 60fps SoC, it's hard not to just start a new game of SoC.
God Damn I hate Snorks. I guess they made them neutral to you at first so they're harder to detect and thus more likely to jump at you from fucking nowhere.
I almost threw up playing LURK
Controller perma double vision + Bloody screen + Dirty screen + BLOOOOOOOM
Yeah I'm done for now

the first 3 are fixable

bloom is an acquired taste
You can turn off the fastbloom too.
Edit the files... Nerf the controller psy-disruption or suffer the cuuuuuuurse!
Anybody with modding experience with Call of Pripyat, I need your help.
I'm trying to edit CoP's all.spawn, but seems acdc.pl isn't working. Possibly because I think it's only meant for SoC. I have the October 2007 version I believe.
Any ideas?
I've entered Pripyat for the first time in SoC (LURK). Good god, this place is worse than X-18 and Agroprom. Those were both creepy and relied on jumpscares, whereas here, the sheer paranoia I'm feeling is indescribable. How many Monolith snipers have their sights trained on me RIGHT THIS SECOND?
:ohdear:

Stalkers, today is a bad day.

Just had a weird encounter in Swartz mod :
I was trekking in the night by the Zaton bridge when a psy-storm forced me to take shelter in the Ranger station. There were already some Loners taking shelter in there so I joined. I went afk for a few seconds and failed to notice that two mercenaries came in. I braced my rifle but the other one riflebutted me and I couldn't do anything for several seconds. Then the Loners began punching the snot out of the mercs and I lost my rifle in the scuffle.
After I regained control, one of the Loners had looted my brand-new AK-103 from the ground. This mod is certainly shaping up to something..
Only real complaint that still remains is that for some reason Swartz incorporated a new,non-mirrored model for the AKS-74 that has completely norked ironsights. I don't care if the model is mirrored or not (I've grown to like the mirrored model in S.T.A.L.K.E.R) but faulty ironsights is something I do take issue with.
Is it me, or is stealth very difficult/next to impossible without mashing F5 manifesto-style in Redux? I got the task from what's-his-hoot to sneak into the mercenary base, and after around 60 quickloads I just kind of gave up because they see me from four stories above, in pitch black, through the holes in the catwalks. I could understand 'they have nightvision' but come, now...
Ah well, otherwise, the mod seems to work pretty well. Although the drunk fuck in the Skadovsk doesn't seem to want to upgrade anything ever, so that's kind of an annoyance.
Generally, Stealth isn't one of Stalkers bulletpoints :v:

How did you get that low FPS on a 8500gt? I ran SoC on my old 8500gt on mediumish with 60 fps.

They could see you in vanilla too, sneaking in STALKER has always been terrible
Also no stashes and upgrades in Redux
Most guns don't need it but snipper riffles are useless now
No stashes and upgrades? What? Why would you remove those two? Upgrades I can kind of see [though I bet most people would be hard-pressed to give an in-game explanation of why nobody within the Zone can upgrade any weapons at all] but...stashes? Really? Is it just an 'artificial difficulty' thing, making the game harder for the sake of being harder, or am I missing something important? Perhaps no stalkers carry anything more than 3 bullets with 5 in their AK magazine [this is more likely than I would like to admit, judging on the fools I've killed so far -- even trained mercs carry at most 20 bullets on them and that's pretty much it]
Alright, would there be a way to re-implement those systems, then? Because removing those two may or may not be the deal breaker between Redux and a different mod.
Thorny didn't have time (Or: was too lazy) to balance upgrades/stashes for Redux.
You can play as Sid or a bloodsucker in patch 10008.
Just wanted to let you know.

Patch 10008 of what? I am intrigued.
Does anyone know when complete 2012 comes out? I first started playing stalker in complete 2009 about a week ago and I got stuck and frustrated so I uninstalled. I feel like I should wait and try again when 2012 comes out.

Perhaps in 2012?
