Did you at least play vanilla before you downloaded ~complete~?

Here. I hope the box is enough to tell you how stupid of a move you did.
Love, Gum.
Did you at least play vanilla before you downloaded ~complete~?
No, somebody told me I was better off with complete since the mod doesn't change anything and makes it an overall better game in terms of atmosphere, music, etc. I like the game, I just kept on dieing at the train station, and I had other games to beat so I uninstalled. Complete 2012 looks amazing though from the moddb page, makes the graphics much better. I just wanted to know when it was going to come out since I am going to play again when it's out.
Okay, I'm at the part in X18 where you are trapped in some room after grabbing the documents.
What do I do?
I've tried shooting the door, throwing grenades at the door, shooting at some sparkly flying thing, firing an RPG at some sparkly flying thing (and crashing the game because of that).

Didn't take long to let me use this.
The reasons to not play complete are following:
It makes the game easier.
It's unoptimised.
It's not vanilla and as such new players shouldn't play it.
It changes much too little to be worth playing for a veteran.
It's a bunch of small mods thrown into a compilation, with pretty much no credit to the original authors.
It doesn't add anything compared to mods like AMK or LURK, just removes the vanilla feel and improves the graphics.
~Artist~ Pavel, is a pretentious douchebag.
It gets way too much press for being not much more than a compilation of graphic mods and a few gameplay changes.
There are some really good modders out there, making really complex and balanced mods which adds lots of features, many starting from scratch, or at least acknowledging the giants upon which shoulders they stand. What kind of press do these guys get? NONE.
Awesome.
Also, WotW now has a coder! The things we're going to make, guys. It's going to be amazing.
Your brother has been released, well done Thorny.

I still don't get how it makes the game easier though
Perhaps no stalkers carry anything more than 3 bullets with 5 in their AK magazine [this is more likely than I would like to admit, judging on the fools I've killed so far -- even trained mercs carry at most 20 bullets on them and that's pretty much it
Probably because Thorny really wanted to hammer in that "holy shit I need ammo fuckkk" aspect of the mod since you only get like a 3-5 ammo return on kills
It doesn't make any sense yeah but if it wasn't done you'll have such a huge stockpile that you won't need to buy any ammo like in vanilla
[editline]19th July 2011[/editline]
The only problem I have with Redux is that some armors/weapons that are upgrade dependent are useless
It would be great if Thorny just put in some of the upgrades for them as default (running in the exo, increased magnification with sniper rifles, etc.)
I still don't get how it makes the game easier though

How about sleeping bags and a cheat mod?
If I put in AMK:SE, will I have to start a new game? Also, is there a mod that makes the Zone funner with random occurrences etc. and that doesn't change the graphics?

Yes you have to start a new game and yes, AMK puts more random occurrences throughout the zone.

1. yes you will
2. amk is just that
3. amk doesnt change the graphics much from what I've played
I want crazy shit to happen though. Like 80 bandits running at the army base or dozens of psuedogiants rushing the starter camp. I really want something that will give me a fresh experience every time. Also, other than that, what else does it add or change?
Is LURK any good? I've been really wanting to try it out, but I want to make sure it's worth the whole installation process.
It's pretty nice.
Enjoy your recoil and fastbloom however.
How about sleeping bags and a cheat mod?
No one is forcing you to use it
It's like saying a game is easy because it has cheat codes
I don't get how sleeping bags makes it easier
Having a sleeping bag with you allows you to bypass all the fucked up things you can encounter while venturing out into the night.
I'm noticing slightly more lag, but it's bearable.

Mutants only get more aggressive at night in CS and CoP
Only thing you're preventing with the sleeping bag in SoC is crapping your pants if you're too scared to fight Bloodsuckers at night
[editline]19th July 2011[/editline]
I agree on all the other points but I still don't see how Complete makes the game easy
Because it has cheats?
That's like saying Contra 4 is easy because it has cheats

I swear (in the vanilla at least) it barely gets any darker at night anyway.
Which is mainy why I'm eager to try out LURK sometime. (or any other mod that makes night feel more like night)
Well, I'll be uninstalling Redux and trying out some other mods. Sorry, I do enjoy the 'jesus christ this is hard' feel of the mod, but there are too many immersion-breaking faults with the mod [in my opinion] that make it hard to get into the mindset where I can enjoy the difficulty of the game. Wheras Complete makes the game a lot easier [and crashier -- seriously, what the shit?], with Redux it feels like the game is ridiculously difficult for no other reason than 'difficulty is the best, man'.
No matter what kind of mod it is, if I'm consistently fighting enemies that are able to shoot an upwards of 300 to 400 rounds at me yet I only pick up 7 bullets from their body and gun no matter when I kill them, it's going to seriously break immersion. There's a lot of good ideas in Redux, and some bad ones, but at this point there are too many issues with it [in my opinion].
With this in mind, I give Call of Pripyat: Redux a three...out of five.
Thorny said after he makes WotW he might go back and make a Redux 2.0, adding stashes/upgrades back. Don't think that will fix the "I was only carrying 5 bullets heh" thing though, but the game is always like that.
i cant see 5 feet away in cop at night
That 'lol yu pick up no bullet' thing really is what killed it for me. Instead of feeling like a place where everybody's killing eachother to survive, ammo is scarce, and a generally 'dog-eat-dog' mentality was the only way you'd see the sunrise, instead it felt like the game was literally refusing to give me any more ammunition than enough to kill one or two dogs [when the game has the nasty habit of spawning 6-9 of them on top of your head], not because there wasn't a lot of ammunition, but it felt like the game was just saying 'NO this is ALL YOU GET GO AWAY DO NOT SEARCH HIS BODY FOR MORE AMMUNITION YOU WON'T FIND ANY'
It doesn't even have to be a lot of ammo, but enough that it's semi-realistic in it's quantity. When a motherfucker gets killed in SoC, you can usually find about 7-20 pistol rounds on him, and about 20-50 assault rifle rounds on him. While this sometimes overloaded you with ammo, the sheer varying amounts of ammunition types [and the fact that all the beastly weapons used very rare types of ammo] assuaged that a little bit. I refuse to believe stalkers in Call of Pripyat would be dumb enough to assault a camp of bandits with three bullets in the magazine and two resting in the pocket, with a makarov -- even if ammo is super-rare. The mutant encounter rate is off the charts and if you go outside with anything less than a shotgun or an assault rifle with 30 bullets, you better expect to be running your ass to and from the burnt farmstead. Hope you stocked up on energy drinks.
Some people like this type of gameplay. Hey, that's cool, to each their own. I, myself, can't stand it.
I play Complete sometimes when I'm bored with other mods
It's a good looking vanilla-ish mod with bug fixes
I just like to pretend that ~artist~pavel is a humble young lad who makes a nice mod compilations
(yeah booo fuck you Jund you play Complete go get killed by a Chimera)
[editline]19th July 2011[/editline]
But yeah play vanilla first
[editline]19th July 2011[/editline]
Well I'm pretty sure I'm not welcome in this thread anymore so I'll just go pack my stuff
I think most of us really don't give a shit if you use complete, as long as you don't tout it as 'BEST STALKER MOD EVAR'. Acknowledge it's faults and we [or at least, I] don't care.
EDIT: Apparently the rest of the community does hate you if you use Complete, so bye?
