"Unless you like what I like and dislike what I dislike, you're a braindead moron uncapable of forming your own opinions on things!" Do I need to play Big Rigs to realize that it's a terrible game? Why would I waste my time playing a game which looks like absolute garbage in all but two trailers(one of which is 10 years old)? Why would I waste my time playing a game which is getting almost universally panned? Why would I waste my time playing a game which features a main character that I never liked, but merely tolerated, a character grossly misinterpreted by whoever made the game(Duke Nukem isn't supposed to be a vile, dimwitted, mysogynistic and embarassingly outdated action hero; he's supposed to be a parody of one)? Why would I waste my time playing a game that relies on cheap gimmicks in order to distract the player from how underwhelming the core experience is? Ultimately, why would I waste my time playing a game which simply doesn't look even mildly enjoyable? It's nice to see how hellbent you are on defending this game from every single naysayer that comes your way, but sorry, I really don't want to waste my time on this turd. I've seen more than enough of it in action, and I have seen almost nothing to convince me that this game is anything other than an unmitigated disaster. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's probably a duck, and in DNF's case it's more along the lines of "if it looks like shit and sounds like shit, then it's probably shit". [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] Nice to see the exact type of lame gimmickry I was talking about posted right here as an example.
Did you honestly only register here just to say this game sucks? Without even playing it no doubt.
It's good to see that this thread is living up to its title again. IMO, the game is a little shit, but I have fun with it anyway so whatever. It really depends on whether you're optimistic or pessimistic about games.

Fact of the matter is, you haven't played the game, and you're calling it a bad game. Don't get me wrong, I thought the game was gonna be pretty bad myself, then I bought it. I fell in love. Moral of the Story: If you haven't played the game and you're putting it down, shut your trap. No one wants to hear it.

No one wants to hear it.
This, there is a huge difference between playing a game and looking a video or reading what someone says, you know the quote "a picture is worth 1000 words" right? well it's basically the same thing that applies here. Also if you have always hated the character and what you can interact with because it's so called "gimmicky" then of course you will think it's bad, but if you hate the character you can not go around saying the game is in fact shit just because you hate the character and the interactivity the game offers. That's like saying you love Need For Speed and I tell people that I hate it and it is in fact shit because I have always hated cars. It's stupid and makes no sense, ok it's fine that you don't like Duke or what you can interact with because it is so called "gimmicky" but because you don't like it because of personal things you can't really go around saying it is in fact shit.
I thought I'd be disappointed after i bought this, but this is up there with my favorite videogames of all time
All in all, Urban made a fatal flaw that no reviewer should make. He put his personal opinion ahead of the general opinion. Anyhow, don't listen to him. It's a good game, not fantastic, but certainly not bad. If you're looking for something ground-breaking and new, this may not be for you. If you're looking to have some good fun shooting up baddies and spewing one-liners, I suggest picking it up soon.
If only Gearbox had made Duke Nukem Forever as good as Opposing Force. Shame.

"General Opinion" Shows me Metacritic. :frogsiren: Always take the word of the players, not the "professionals". That's why we're here. We're telling people that this game is worth the investment if you like Duke's character and the such. Your opinion is that you don't like him. That doesn't make it a bad game.

It doesn't take itself seriously, and neither should anyone else. Enjoy it for what it is, a very funny "I love you" from 3d Realms and Gearbox.
Awesome, just found a new reference (new because any website that lists all other refernces to games and media don't show this) I was just killing the rats after being shrunken in the level where you get the freeze ray and after killing the mice Duke says "See ya later, Mickey" (obvious reference to Mickey Mouse) finally I'm the first to find something in a game as if you google it nothing related comes up, so Hell Yeah.
people can find something and not post it on the internet you know
shhhh don't crush my hopes
just beat the sp gotta say the ending boss was stupid but whatever, it was a really fun game and i wanna see more of it
Say that I suck but I'm having so much trouble on the mothership level on expert difficulty
Just got the game and played until you get resized back to your normal size. Currently my only gripes are how drawing works (THE INK DOES NOT COME OUT OF DUKE'S WRIST, GAME) and how slow it is, so many required stops and "OH LOOK AT THE PRETTY ATMOSPHERE OUTSIDE"
On the Redner Group thing:
Onion AV and Eurogamer writer John Teti claims this is more down to 2K than Redner. Teti was recently invited to a 2K event, but when word got back about his negative Mafia II review, they uninvited him. Teti tweeted: "The only mistake Jim Redner made was to disclose 2K operating practices publicly. Blacklisting writers for poor reviews is company policy. [He's] a good guy who got caught up in the 2K culture and made a bad mistake. But remember that: It's the culture, not one dude."
http://www.neoseeker.com/news/16677-pr-agency-lashes-out-over-duke-reviews-2k-gives-the-boot/
Fucking got the ship, took so many tries
I've been around these forums for much longer than my join date suggests.
Was your original account perma'd for being stupid?
How's the multiplayer on DNF?
How do you guys go about killing Octaking the second time? Im playing on normal, and every time the fight starts, i get insta-raped. Any advice?
I'm finding the multiplayer fun. The weapons all seem balanced in a way, I actually enjoy using all of them. Hitboxes seem a bit off though, or its the lag. Otherwise the game is very fun if you like small maps with 4vs4 battles and quick respawn.
I am loving this game. Haters gonna hate. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline]
I'm finding the multiplayer fun. This guy makes some valid points about the reviews and the game itself. Worth a watch, even if you hate DSP.
I don't see where all of the hate is coming from. I've been playing the multiplayer for 5 hours and so far its been pretty fun; I like it. I'm going to play the singleplayer on Friday, in which some of my family and friends are also going to play. I've waited quite a while for this and I'm not disappointed by what I've played so far.
How do you guys go about killing Octaking the second time? Im playing on normal, and every time the fight starts, i get insta-raped. Any advice?
Target the Octabrains first. They can catch some of your Devastator rockets, but you fire so many that they'll easily break through their barrier and gib them before they can toss the rockets they caught back at you. When its you vs the Octaking, you can destroy his projectiles with a Devastator rocket. It has to hit the dead-center of the projectile, but you'll get a feel for where to aim after destroying one or two. Note that you should only do this for ones that are heading straight towards you; your strafing speed is too slow to intercept ones that are heading to your sides. You'll take some damage from their explosion radius when they hit the wall behind you, but it isn't nearly as bad as a direct hit. If you knock out one or two projectiles after being hit by the radius, its usually enough time for your ego to recharge. Also, make sure that you're constantly moving around during the battle. In some cases, the Octaking will try to shoot a projectile ahead of you, so just turn the opposite direction if you see one flying in the direction you're strafing. There's a Beer near the resupply crate. Use it.
Found a cheat enabler online, dunno if I can link it as it links to the pirate bay though, it works with the retail version of the game. I want to point out this isn't warez in anyway http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6469257/Duke_Nukem_Forever_Cheat_Enabler_-_Update_2_%5BADHDerby%5D install instructions are there as well
Multiplayer is really fun, but the hit-boxes are rather lame. There are plenty of times where melee keeps missing or you 90% of your shots fired seem to miss even though you fire them at point blank. Oh well, hope we will get better hitboxes soon.
