So guys. I just took back my copy of DNF that I never opened and exchanged it for Starcraft 2, on account of all the bad shit I've been hearing about DNF. Did I do good?
No. It's not as good as SCII, but its worth it.
Did I do good?

No.

You're gonna hurt his feelings FACT.
He doesnt care and if he did i'd be dead by now also i have terrible hand writing too. FACT.
I can't make myself like this game, it's just too awful. I liked it for the first couple levels, but then I got to the part where the sisters are killed, and I realized, I wasn't having very much fun.
It took 14 years to make but it still felt rushed.
It took 14 years to make but it still felt rushed.
This particular version was in development for 3 or something like that years so yeah.
I liked it for the first couple levels, but then I got to the part where the sisters are killed, and I realized, I wasn't having very much fun.
Seriously, whose fucking idea was that? They take the women because they're aliens and to piss Duke off, not to go all Xenomorph on them, it's the kind of shit that I've literally seen on Gurochan. Yahtzee is spot on with it being completely out of place.
Well...they were doing the same thing in Duke 3D, werent they? Capturing women to be hosts?
I was like 10 when I played the original so fuck if I know the story. Wikipedia says he found them in incubators but it was just a trick to distract Duke from actual plans. Then in the Atomic Edition apparently they used one of them to make a Queen alien. So it was probably something they chucked in but Forever decided to expand on that because in a game where the protagonist takes Steroids regularly, blows everything up and is literally the most awesome person ever, they thought they should give the aliens a flimsy reason for abducting women. Never mind that nothing else is explained and we do shit because we fucking want to, the aliens needed a reason that didn't fall within Duke's narcissism.
Once you get to the hive, the game takes a real sharp turn into being no longer humorous. Hell Duke nearly died like 3 times.
Story behind Duke? It was never really there in the Duke 3D. Yea there were things put togther but in the end it was just a game for people to play where they kill aliens, drink beer, tip strippers and save babes. At least DNF had a story. Aliens return to earth. They want revenge so they take what Duke loves most. Babes, Las Vegas, and his beer(Duke's workout room). Duke gets angry and goes to kick ass and save his women. In the end he kicks the Aliens ass just like he did years before. Women are used to make Octabrains which are basically the leaders of the aliens. Men are turned into pigs. As for the other aliens, probably from another planet or some shit. Maybe a conquered species. The aliens had a reason, and it was for revenge for having their ass handed over to them on a plate of porkchop sandwiches. Not that flimsy sounding to me.
Well...they were doing the same thing in Duke 3D, werent they? Capturing women to be hosts?
They were. You'd frequently see bound women near Octabrains and Protozoid Slimer eggs in random parts of Episode 2 and 3, which pretty much blatantly told you that the women were used to breed the eggs (there's also a chart in Episode 4's secret level showing the connection between women and the Protozoid Slimers). Of course, it didn't show you the whole birthing process back then, so it was less creepy. The Hive is pretty much a more grimmer and "realistic" version of those areas.
I was like 10 when I played the original so fuck if I know the story. Wikipedia says he found them in incubators but it was just a trick to distract Duke from actual plans. Then in the Atomic Edition apparently they used one of them to make a Queen alien.
The aliens' plan in DNF was to do what they were doing in Duke 3D; capturing women to breed, but they were also trying to spite Duke this time around by doing things like entering Duke Burger when Duke started recording his late night show appearance, building a gigantic alien rape nest under a stadium named the Duke Dome and having the tallest Duke Burger in Vegas completely tangled up in alien tentacles. Pretty much everything you saw the aliens do in the Vegas portion of the game was just to piss Duke off.
Invading sure, revenge is a fine enough reason for that. A reason for kidnapping women though, just pissing off Duke is good enough. It's about random violence and aliens, what point is there in fleshing it out? The pig men, who cares. No-one, not even Duke really liked the EDF before they mutated. The women though, innocents, babes, I mellee'd one and Duke said "She wasn't human any more". What kind of character breaking shit is that? It's like making Agent 47 romance the widow of someone he killed in that YOU DO NOT DO THAT.

It's like making Agent 47 romance the widow of someone he killed in that YOU DO NOT DO THAT.
Duke loves women, but even he knows they shouldn't spend the last few minutes of their lives withering and moaning and eventually having little Octabrains pop out of their stomach. Killing them is pretty much a mercy kill. Ironically, Duke3D actually PUNISHED you for killing the bound women (by spawning in enemies and having Duke say "Damnit" in a solumn tone) even though it was obvious they were just as screwed as the ladies in the Hive. Apparently leaving them to their fate is what real heroes do in DN3D/1996, but mercy killing them is now acceptable in DNF/2011.
That's not the point. The point is that Duke as a Character is fucking indestructible and always gets the last laugh. He's not tormented by the things he had to do, he shouldn't even be in the situation where he has to choose between mercy killing and leaving them to their fate.
Also, I keep seeing in the controls "jetpack" yet there was only 1 jetpack (not counting assault troopers) in the entire campaign and it was a scripted event.
Also, I keep seeing in the controls "jetpack" yet there was only 1 jetpack (not counting assault troopers) in the entire campaign and it was a scripted event.
Its for multiplayer.
http://angryjoeshow.com/2011/06/duke-nukem-forever-review/ Strange. I feel like I strongly disagree with this guy's score, yet I agree with all the points he makes. We must value different things in games.
What happened? Its the demo from steam.
No one knows the problem?
So, I just beat this game on hard (Come Get Some) difficulty. That was a challenging, yet very enjoyable experience. Except for the hive and the underwater Octobabies, those parts can go fuck themselves.
No one knows the problem?
Well after searching google and such I came upon this thread http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=123919 try to see if one of those fixes will work. Other than that, I can't find anything else besides others who have your same error but it wasn't solved.
You took it back because of the critics/'what you heard' instead of giving it a go for yourself. Yep u shure did reel well! :downs:
The other alternative was opening it and immediately ensuring I could never take it back ever [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]

No.

Yes. Thanks for being a part of my social experiment in DNF Thread Posters vs. Starcraft 2 Thread Posters.

The PC version's load times for just starting a map takes like 15-20 seconds and the respawn load times takes 2 seconds on PC.
Why shouldn't they complain? They are reviewing the console version, not the pc version. That's like saying we shouldn't complain about shitty PC ports because those games work fine on a console.

They're reviewing either the console version or all versions and if the latter is the case they may try, should they have the knowlege, to mention the fact that the PC version doesn't have these issues. But to ignore the terminal unpolishedness of the console versions would be reprehensible.
