There's already a mod that lets you turn any group of blocks into a moving object. This was done by just a modder, I'm sure of notch and his team actually cared enough to add large ships that we could traverse oceans on he could easily duplicate something like that, and actually make it better.
That was the zeppelin mod, right?
Yesh
I hope we can get some form of more useful boats in the future. Rivers could become very valuable for transportation.
River Rafts made of sticks would be pretty cool.
River Rafts made of sticks would be pretty cool.
I was thinking more along the lines of bigger, faster boats that could carry cargo.
Again, zepellin mod. It has a block that lets you made a ship with the normal movement of a ship.

I really don't want anything too complicated for boats, just a few different types and I'm fine. Maybe if you put 3 boats togheder plus a stick and a block of wool, it makes a bigger boat that can be used to transport more people/chests, but I wouldn't like to see something like the Zeppelin mod get implemented into the game.

Do i have to start a new game when i install the update?
Do i have to start a new game when i install the update?
Not required, but it's reccommended if you want to see all the new terrain generation features. Plus there'd be some harsh transitions from 1.7 and prior generated terrain when you get to 1.8 generated terrain. You could transition from a desert to a ravine right at the edge of a chunk, for instance.
1.7 worlds dont generate 1.8 chunks read like last page ok
I can't find the particular post, give me some confirmation on that please
I can't find the particular post, give me some confirmation on that please
It was in the PAX videos I believe. 1.7 worlds won't even generate chunks with the new biome code. You have to start a new world.
How many times are people going to be entirely wrong about this
really because that's exactly what notch said
really because that's exactly what notch said
I await your source.
About having to start a new world. Are you guys that fucking dumb or just trolling
About having to start a new world. Are you guys that fucking dumb or just trolling
Old worlds won't generate any new chunks.
No worries I think there'll propably be a mod that'll make them generate new chunks. IF that's true really.
Old worlds do generate new chunks, but you have to walk to an area that hasn't been explored yet. Plus, there might be funky terrain because of the biome code errors like a mountain cutting off right into a river. But old worlds WILL work.
Old worlds won't generate any new chunks.
You're a troll. Unless you provide a part of proof I'm going to assume that you're a troll.
You're a troll. Unless you provide a part of proof I'm going to assume that you're a troll.
Well then I guess you're up for watching the 52 minute live stream? :v:
I'm not going to watch 52 minute lifestream, find me the exact time Notch says this and I'll watch it. It's not like I believe you anyway.
Old worlds will still generate, they just won't generate with any of the new code. I'm pretty sure that is what Notch said.

But he did say that 1.7 worlds would be "incompatible" or something like that with the terrain from 1.8. If he meant it won't generate new terrain or there would just be issues, I don't know.
Jeb has said that old worlds will generate new chunks but the borders will look funny, but notch has said that the new areas will still not have any of the new stuff like villages and to start a new world.
Well then I guess you're up for watching the 52 minute live stream? :v:
As somebody who was there in person, I asked Notch several questions including about old worlds. He said old worlds WILL generate 1.8 specific chunk features. He misspoke in the livestream.
