It was hard to me at first but with practice you will learn that your don't mash on the gas and you just tap it a couple times. Also if you drive manual (Which you should anyways when drifting) put it into 3rd gear and stay there. You will drift a hell of a lot better. You can also bump it up to 4th for those wide turns so that you speed through it.
One more thing. Use the D class drift alliance car first. It is easy to use for a beginner. After that you can bump it up to the lotus(?) or the mazda(?) that you also get. Also I use a gamepad now instead of my keyboard. Its a lot easier to drift and race with.
Im using a force feedback wheel.
Im getting annoyed at how the guy repeats the same stupid things that dont help a bit.
What speed should i be at when i drift in the first drift lesson?
More screenshots incoming.

If I try the workaround for antialiasing to work, the game won't start, so no AA until patch.
Holy shit, after I uploaded these, the others went to jpeg-rapesville.
Didn't really notice the lack of AA in the screenshots until you've told about it. Gorgeous BMW, by the way.

yeah, I'm perfectly fine with drifting with a controller but with the wheel I just can't turn it fast enough because of messed up FFB
I'll tell you that for starters, the speed at which you enter a drift for that specific lesson should be like ~25-30mph, or just enough so that your back can slide out whenever you give it full throttle

I personally go into a drift at around 50+

Ah, apparantly if anyone's having trouble connecting to games via invite, what you need to do is have someone host and invite, the player that has been invited then needs to sign out of autolog and back in, once you've done that then you should be able to join.
Seems to have solved mine and my friends problem...kind of stupid though.
I used the gamepad setup from a page or two ago, but it still feels a bit jerky. Anyone got a smoother setup?

Go to gamepad advanced settings ingame and turn down the sensitivity and and decrease the steering deadzones.
you know what I can't stand about shift 2 screenshots? when you stop, the motion blur comes out really artifacty and grainy. it wasn't that way in shift 1. it's like they forgot to change it to make rendering easier even though the motion blur during movement is the same low-res easy-to-render stuff in the stopped frame which makes it infuriating to look at

I think it just looks that way because of the lack of anti-aliasing. It looks fine to me for the most part.

that could be and upon looking at screen shots it seems to be the more applicable cause but it just looks like it's unfinished halfassed rendering

Depends on which set you look at. The second set were taken at 1920x1200 and resized to 1024x768, the first set were jpeg raped to hell.
I simply cannot get used to how the camera looks into the apex of the corner
I simply cannot get used to how the camera looks into the apex of the corner
I don't like it too, so I just use the regular cockpit view
problem solved
I've been so tired of how static first-person cameras are in racing games that I love the change of the helmet cam. I can't not use it.
Holy Italians, Batman! The Cinque is INCREDIBLE with PTMu and no assists.
It's ungodly.
I want people to do a hot lap session on Mount Panorama at night with the Zonda Cinque. It's crazy.
I'd love to play a more racing games with the helmet. It'd just add so much more to the immersion; especially in a game like DiRT or GRiD. The helmet doesn't really block the view at all and it just adds so much more to the character of being behind the wheel.
It'd be nice if you could actually USE trackir, though. it's so frustrating to not be able to look around in your cab and see your mirrors.

Race 07 with GTR evolution and all that...the open top/open wheeler cars all have a helmet style cam that gets dirty and requires you to take off the tear off strips from time to time
Did the retro championship where you win that Toyota Corolla with the Rotary in it, and couldn't get past him. Did it with a Second gen RX-7 with all the mods, including Nos, except an Engine swap, no body kit and only a level 1 turbo. Holy shit that Corolla was fast. It destroyed me off the line every time, even when I hit Nos. I couldn't catch it. I bought the engine swap, the level 3 turbo, and the level 3 body kit, and I'm gonna try it again later.
Question: Where the hell is the drift practice course that you supposedly unlock after doing the Grass Roots thing?
Xbox
Tried the race with the Fully upgraded RX-7 and sucked ass, guess all the cars scale with my upgrades. :downs:
So far, I'm finding this game to be an absolutely horrid experience.
The game runs like utter dog shit and looks like dog shit on my computer that's only four years old - around 15-40fps and it looks more like some PS1 game than something of the current generation when Crysis 2 runs just FINE. Even after turning off damping, the input lag is so bad that I can hardly accelerate in a straight line without weaving all over the track, the in-game wheel and head movements are completely unrealistic and more annoying than anything, and the cars handle closer to cargo ships than cars. Even on tracks like the Nurburgring or Suzuka which I've memorized every corner in any other racing game completely throws me off because there is no sense of accuracy or urgency at all in turns as the car turns randomly around half a second after pressing the control stick and the racing line is nearly useless as it is impossible to actually correct your car to stay onto it.
All of this would be tolerable if this game didn't have huge optimization and input lag problems but that just essentially ruins the entire game for me.
Your problem is the racing line. Lose it
It's just a general guide, in *Every* instance you can always enter a corner wider than the racing line will show you, and thus hit the apex faster and accelerate faster out of the corner, Brake when you need to, not when the line tells you to, and go full out in times it tells you to brake. The Racing Line is more detrimental than helpful if you know the track
The thing that will really throw that whole thing off though is Try doing Nordschliefe in a Works Nissan GTR, then swap to a Works BMW M3. You practically have to relearn your braking points, and different entry speeds and points, since it handles completely differently than the GTR
I've never experienced the steering delay, however just leaving my wheel dead centered, the car will want to slightly veer left and right, which real cars do... It's a nice touch of realism
And if you think this looks more like a Playstation 1 game, then that problem is definitely user-related, not the game's fault

I do not have any of the problems you have, so its probably just your pc and input.
the game is very well optimized, im getting superb fps.
Are you trying to run it on max settings?
Maybe post your specs?
Processors double in frequency every 2 years. games pretty much do that too.

I agree, also racing lines usually fuck up your driving if you don't hit it because then you try to move the car to keep a good line and it usually ends up making you slower because you're constantly correcting.
