I hate the ''legit'' racing games, they're boring. all dem underground and shit are good.
Except this isn't legit.
This is bumper cars with a "realism" ruse.
It's cool how when you start the race engine is heated to 42'C which - as we know - is the optimal temeprature for any engine. Even more cool is that engine get overheated at 60'C. Man... that's seriously hot, no engine can stand temperature that high. That proves that game was developed by profesionals who know everything about cars, which lets them develop the most realistic simulator of all time. [/sarcasm]
Another simulator-pedophile, kids-friendly.
Hate on it all you guys want, it's the 17th Need for Speed game, and out of those 17, the most realistic, Best looking, and best sounding. It blends realism with fun perfectly I think. Aside from this one the only other Need for Speed game that stands out is the very first

And the third, and the fourth.

I'd say fifth too.

Also to those wondering about U3 or MW2:
Since the release of Undercover, Black Box has been working on another entry to the franchise, presumably continuing the action focused street-racing gameplay of Black Box's previous titles. This game however, has an extended development window to give the developers a chance to create a game that "could really blow the doors off the category".It is confirmed that the game will feature a fictional storyline and characters, and is scheduled for release in November 2011.
Ah, yes, porsche unleashed was pretty good.
what was that one nfs game that just came out uhh oh right shift 2 yeah that shit is the bomb
After reading all the posts regarding the physics and stuff I hope I'll be able to enjoy this game... Nowadays all I play for racing games are sims. I got excited for this game when I saw that preview in Hot Pursuit. I'm getting my copy tomorrow so I'll just wait and see. Anyone try the online? ... And are the graphics really as bad as some say?
The naming is getting ridiculous

Uhh, why? Because it has the word in your username?
My copy will be here tomorrow, looking forward to it - night racing will make my soil my underwear methinks.
Sure it's not a sim, who cares, I have racing sims - Shift has a nice blend, the only thing I didn't like so much was the small corners and massive tire screeching which seems to have been sorted in this game so I'm happy!

compressed to fuck as upload speed is terrible and didn't want to spend all night uploading.
Any decent compressors that have a good quality/file size ratio?
I tried playing this game but I don't like it and uninstalled the game under a few minutes. The reason why I don't like this game is Horribad steering where I mostly gone off-road too many times, crash too many damn times on corners, etc etc.... I perfer games that got simple continues, contains demolition and destruction, but this just another... generic... racing game with nothing so special.
yeah because in race mode you have humongous amounts of oversteer even with rwd cars haha
that doesn't stop this game from being hugely entertaining, though
you have oversteer and understeer the wrong way around
I'm gonna go batshit if someone asks for a Hot Pursuit 2. But seriously, the naming is idiocy, but I guess they don't look like Final Fantasy (Need For Speed XVII? WTSHIT).
This is like an even worse version of GRID. It's a racing game for the FPS generation; full of unnecessary visual effects that add nothing to the experience and look stupid and a crappy, orchestral/rock-hybrid soundtrack. The physics models for most of the cars is just plain broken - it's not even a balance between "realism" and "arcade" like GRID was... these cars do not drive anything like cars. . The AI is retarded - they literally just shunt you off the track. They don't do any 'thinking' like the AI in F1 2010 which, for all its faults, was a game with some very realistic driver AI.
GRID is like, one of the best semi-realistic racing games out there.

or they could just start a new series

I loved Grid but I'd say it was nowhere near sim, you can fly around corners and still stick to roads. Neither is shift 2 close to sim but I'm installing it now, got my copy...I love it these types of games and I love sims too.
Does anyone still buy these games?
I do. I've owned and played every need for speed game so far
Why does this game even use the need for speed title? This isn't need for speed. This is a legal track racing simulator. Something what even the first games and what most of the games have not been. Plus the first Shift was not very good at all.
How in the name of bindy do I get to view the auto log thingy.
Ah space bar, okey
A couple o' questions
The physics models for most of the cars is just plain broken - it's not even a balance between "realism" and "arcade" like GRID was... these cars do not drive anything like cars. .
Care to explain? I bet you've got a vast experience of driving all sorts of cars and can tell us what's so horribly wrong with broken physics?

They loved to slam into you in the first Shift, but I'm yet to collide with an AI driver in Shift 2. And during about 30 full races in F1 2010 I've never had a single positive thought of its AI. So it's all arguable.

F1's AI is scripted, the cars don't compete with each other.
Looks like I'm the only one happy that NFS is going this way (with NFS:Shift being a semi-realistic and NFS being arcadey like Hot Pursuit). I sure as hell am glad they left that shitty ricer crap tuning stuff.

They do in the races.
I didn't notice at first till I watched my replay, the AI viper says fuck the corner and cuts across grass twice.
