does anyone have any good gamepad settings? no matter what i do there feels like there's a huge linearity issue or something.
Uhh, why? Because it has the word in your username?
It's a sequel to a spin off with an added sub title, without the original series name in it anymore... Need For Speed : Shift Need For Speed : Shift 2 : Unleashed It's not incredibly dumb, but I don't see why they didn't just call it Need for Speed : Unleashed, because I didn't think that Shift was that successful anyway.
I'm pretty sure they dropped the Need for Speed title and they're just calling it Shift 2: Unleashed
does anyone have any good gamepad settings? no matter what i do there feels like there's a huge linearity issue or something.
Change \SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED\ControllerDefaults\PC\vehicleset_pc_custom_pad.xml Flags DampeningEnabled="0" (Default is 1)
should it be made read only?
The AI in Shift 2 actually avoid you... even if you come hauling up beside them, they will give you a little room to breathe
they always ram me off the track. also, even with the damping disabled, it still feels fucking off.
F1's AI is scripted, the cars don't compete with each other.
Um... nah. You've read into release-day complaints wrongly. People complained because the qualifying times were randomly determined based upon what difficulty level you were on - not by how fast the cars actually got around the track (you could be on the hardest difficulty, overtaking everyone on a qualifying lap easily but then find you're 10 seconds behind first place). The AI in the races is pretty damn good. It's far better than the on-rails shit you get in most games, especially Gran Turismo.
The AI in Shift 2 actually avoid you... even if you come hauling up beside them, they will give you a little room to breathe
That's not what I've found, at least never to the extent of F1 2010 where the AI actually seems to get genuinely 'frightened' of you and avoids even the tiniest of collisions even if it means losing a place or two - as the real drivers do. AI in Shift 2 has quite happily turned straight into me when I have come up the inside of them neatly before a turn... or just hit me regardless of my line in a way that almost seems deliberate. [editline]31st March 2011[/editline] Hahah the brake glow in this game is so retarded. I love how subtle it is in Forza 3... in this you can brake from 6th to 4th and the brakes look like they're radioactive. In Forza it only seemed to ever appear if you were going from 6th to 2nd on full-lock or something. Pretty much just another example of how this game over-does absolutely everything. Same goes for the 1st-person helmet view thing. The way it forces you to stare at the apex is disorientating and sickening and unrealistic - you do that sort of thing subconsciously... consciously creating it with a visual effect is so unnecessary. Same goes for the fact you can see your own helmet. What a terrible idea. Sure, you get tunnel-vision when wearing a closed helmet but the depth-of-field is so strong that it's like a heavy vignetting on your eye-sight, not a helmet glued to the camera.
welp, game is unplayable. cannot get any sort of comprehensive linearity for my xb360 gamepad. I give it 25% stick movement, so it puts out 10% steering, then I give it 50% stick, and it gets 70% steering. linearity is totally fucked and it's unfixable. what a colossal waste of money
I'm gonna go batshit if someone asks for a Hot Pursuit 2. But seriously, the naming is idiocy, but I guess they don't look like Final Fantasy (Need For Speed XVII? WTSHIT).
there is a Hot Pursuit 2. I had it on Gamecube.
Also to those wondering about U3 or MW2:

Since the release of Undercover, Black Box has been working on another entry to the franchise, presumably continuing the action focused street-racing gameplay of Black Box's previous titles. This game however, has an extended development window to give the developers a chance to create a game that "could really blow the doors off the category".It is confirmed that the game will feature a fictional storyline and characters, and is scheduled for release in November 2011.
It's going to suck.
Shift 2 likes to lock my PC up with just a NES Game Garbled screen with the stuck sound that was playing before restarting the PC If my video card is dying I'm going to be pissed
Much like Shift 1 it completely blows on PC. Hate the helmet cam, hate the disorienting camera pan when cornering, hate the other car's AI, and don't even think of buying it unless you've already spent the money on a wheel and pedal set, because it's unplayable with a keyboard. I beat Hot Pursuit with a keyboard no problem, but you literally can't stay on the road in this game.
you can't even play it with a gamepad. it's fucking atrocious. people wonder why people don't buy games anymore.
I hope to god they add lan in a patch like they did to a first one. If they don't, it's going to be Fixed and Docile dog studios now.
That's because Hot Pursuit is an arcade-made-to-be-played-on-keyboard-just-fine game. Shift is made to be played with a Gamepad at the very least, and expensive Momo's and Logitechs (Or cheap wheels if you have one too) for the best experience, which is nice... If a Racing game is best on a wheel (As an example. the newer hot pursuit game is easier and better without a wheel) then it's a good semi-realistic racing game 9 times out of 10

I don't use Force feedback so I'm not sure how shit that's done, and it's generally never done that well
force feedback works really well in grid/dirt 2 (especially dirt 2)
NFS3: Hot Pursuit was my first pc game. Underground 2 is my favorite game, and i think the series just went downhill from that point. Carbon and MW were OKAY, but nothing captured me to play again and again and again like U2. I think if they made a game like U2, with more cars, a bigger city, better graphics, and all the same features as U2 they make some bank.

I just bought all cars, tuned them and then uninstalled the game. But yeah, since U2 NFS games have been very shitty.
i want fucking working gamepad shit FFFUCK lotus exige in this game CAN BURN IN HELL FUCK that C invitational shit that car is so bad it's angering
Weird, I could assign my buttons to the gamepad perfectly but when I race it doesn't respond... [editline]1st April 2011[/editline] The menu navigation is so fucking awkward. When I assign a button I can't just click on it with my mouse, I have to press F. But when I save my config I can't just press the button that indicates "Save", I have to press it with the mouse. Jesus... [editline]1st April 2011[/editline] And ofcourse I can't use the gamepad to navigate the menu so I have to juggle keyboard and gamepad between races  [editline]1st April 2011[/editline] The game itself is really nice so far though, the cockpit view is really awesome in night time races
i uninstalled it, anything powerful is impossible to drive due to laggy, unresponsive, shitty, unlinear controls. what a waste
I don't see the problem with the controls... I'm on an old wheel I've used for almost a decade... It's done more miles than actual cars, and the cars drive great, slow and fast ones alike on my end... Should see me rip up Nurburgring in my souped up Nissan GTR, Pull in 6:35:00 Lap times. Not bad considering the stock Nissan GTR did a lap there in 7:24 Then again after Test Drive Unlimited 2, I'd give a skyscraper in an avalanche a passing grade in terms of handling
People are reporting steering wheel delay of 0.2 to 0.5 seconds on other forums. If you have a steering wheel and have some problems, you might want to check this out... http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1331574&postcount=5 I found it made the steering at least bearable.

Well, some kind of game bug or something - I just got an Alfa Romeo and a Lambourgini Mercialago for free! Just sat in the car lot for $0
