I really don't understand what is he expecting to achieve. It looks more like he looks for an excuse to go to Vegas, and not tell everyone "Another vacation!", though really if that's the case he should just go and take a vacation, it's his own business and money.
But making a convention for that is stupid, people throw conventions around genres, styles and hobbies, not a single game.
I mean what's it gonna be like? "So uh, I totally built a huge castle last night dude" "huh... nice man!"
And it would be at least somewhat worth it if it had this big good community, and then you'd get to meet all those people you've known online. But this isn't the case either, MC's community is majorly crap.

I can see people paying this and travel for a bigger convention but he should have stayed in europe and held it locally to see what kind of turnout he could get in major cities near him. If he was a huge developer and was holding something bigger than maybe.
If it was in europe I'd go, but not 800 quid or so for a flight to america.
