MRP Nostalgia, :frown:
Some guy named Firewalker is coming out with a new RP map called Wake of Fire, it's pretty neat, search system like SC2's RP's. Description system and a whole lot of other jazz. I can host it if any of you who play RP's wanna see it, would be nice to get it out there and have it seen so people don't host XRP or Titans Land RP (ugh) all day, erry day.
how RP went in Warcraft:
spend about 10 minutes finding a game, get started
hope the host doesn't disconnect, often did, if not congrats and start playing
spend about 1-2 hours setting up bases and stories, suddenly someone has to go or gets disconnected
everyone starts leaving or the host gets split
repeat

Post-DOTA. Maybe, at the latest, once Allstars came out.
All of those exist in Sc2
probably not to the extent that wc3 took them, the detail and time put into some of those maps was incredible
CoT was the shit and I had a sticky note full of character codes.
oh jeez that was one of my favorite RPG's
Sadly I can play with you, my friends. I've got no WC3 to play!
Ah the campaign in Warcraft 3 was amazing, such a deep and interesting storyline.
[editline]25th July 2011[/editline]
Anyone who plays world of warcraft should play through the WC3 and TFT campaign.

The first or second undead misson was brutal though, You needed to sneak around in that one town. Never did beat that...
I'm up for a Warcraft III meetup. It would be really nice to have a huge full house organized game.
I never played the original maps right. I always tried to see how powerful I could get my hero and tried to kill as many of the creatures as possible.
Spent so many years playing custom maps over battlenet. This game just had some great custom maps... Uther Party, Sheep/Tree Tag, LOAP, the original Wintermaul (which was actually a maul and not a line td), the early versions of Footies, Gang Wars, Village Builder, Castle Builder, Evolves, Run Kitty Run, Juliens RPG, Waurgriff's COT RPG, SOL's RPG, Undead Bungie's FF ORPG, the old Peon Wars, Angel Arena, X Hero Siege, Ant Colony, and many more. There were also awesome campaigns such as Nature's Call The Spiderqueen.
I went onto battlenet again a few months ago and was very dissapointed because all the maps were being hosted by bots and almost all of the maps being hosted were just DOTA (which I hate btw).
WINNER. COT rpg 1/2, Custom hero line wars, FF rpg (me and my brother even still play this).

I would beg my brother to play and actual map and thats all he did.
I'd be up for a WC3 night, all we need is 8-12 people

This may be nostalgia talking, but it's not the same
It isn't the nostalgia talking, the Heroes business they put in Warcraft 3 was fucking prime to make it so and it was just enveloped in everything so easily.

Alternative.
How RP went in Warcraft:
Spend about 1 minute to 30 minutes before finding a roleplay that's not college dorm RP, get in.
Download the map with the host drilling you with questions, fuck up once and you're kicked.
Host starts up.
People build.
People start roleplaying.
Someone causes a conflict.
Either said person takes it, or somehow has developed love for his 5 minute character in which they get pissed.
Someone might start spamming units to lag the game, or use the exploits to crash it.
Someone might use a God character, worse if host does.
Everyone has some roleplay, either it gets stale and people leave.
Be the last one on the map, sighing in a depressed tone as you try to find enjoyment in your small hobby inside a hobby, noticing the decline of quality roleplay and where did it go, where people have left, best friends have been split, which leaves you empty inside because you have no one to roleplay with that works out, sitting alone staring at the hollow piece that warcraft 3 roleplay once was.
This is me, I used to roleplay with holygiant, i'm glad I got him after 5 years, I actually lost him for that time and found him on youtube in which it was the exact same person, but it's sad for me because I got into roleplay in WC3 and for me it even beats alot of Garrysmod RP because how lenient players are and how it can all expand and stretch into a myriad of ideas, instead of having 32 people play 32 people, you had 2-11 (I think.) people playing entire kingdoms which interacted with each other, and instead of driving into a fucking drama fest when someone oversteps, they shrug and continue on unless it's extremely bullshit.
This is what I miss about RP, on how people were so lenient you could've done whatever you wanted, and RP always left you fufilled.
oh my god i remember playing this all the time.. I jumped onto it after I played the hell out of ET:W and seriously played every single custom gamemode. I loved MRP and after that died off moved to SoTDRP which was great.
is there anything other than DoTA? i might reinstall if there's still some Angel Arena and Tower Defense maps kicking around
Oh, wow. This is still one of my favorite games of all time. The campaign had a fantastic story and I spent many lonely weekend nights playing LOAP, RP, and Parasite. I met some great people that I'm still friends with to this day.
Then World of Warcraft came.
WoW didn't kill Warcraft 3, time did
fyi

Warcraft 3 was so good the only reason it died wasn't due to other games, but responsibilities people had pulling them away from it as time went it slowly lost players.
It had enough stance that if it was refitted as WC 4 with improved graphics and the same loadout I would buy it again, because it's still fucking awesome to see how innovative people can get.
Reason why SC2 is horrible at it is because they don't have the hero system like WC3 does.
SC2 has heroes

Ahh FF RPG was a game within a game for me. So many hours wasted playing that map.
The only games I played before WC3 community almost died out were Parasite, that other game similar to parasite, SotDRP and loaps.
Now I just go on and host either Solar Conquest or Alternate Future and wait for the veterans to trickle in.
Them or DotA fanatics that decide to try a different map for once and leaves the game as soon as it starts.

SC2 mapping is at an infancy right now, just look at how long it took WC3 to get out some of the best maps.
[editline]26th July 2011[/editline]
Also that one Island Defense with the titan was so fucking fun.
Greatest RTS, EVER. Period.
I must have spent, thousands of hours playing that game. All my best friends irl played with me. /sheds tear. Great times, great memories.
It tears my heart out that blizzard is stuck with a boner for WoW, and failed so miserably with SC2. SC2 is a disgusting disgrace to the glory that was warcraft 3.
-Risk Devolution
-RPs
-Loaps
-Mafia wars
-ect
I watched, helplessly, as the population decayed and moved on. Now-a-days in SC2, if host's ingame selected rules aren't 100% what someone wants, they'll just leave. The start of every game starts with 1-3 people leaving. You'd get an occasional nerdrager in Warcraft 3, but the Banlist.nl kept him out, forever.
Oh, and the Banlist, Custom kick, and these other host tools were great. Not every map enabled a votekick, and if someone was being disruptive, or abusing a broken mechanic and were not a crux player, they could simply be kicked and not allowed to play, ever again. I kept a personal banlist over over 700, and it was hilarious to boot a guy with a ban from several years ago. They could come back with another username, but most of the bans were IP bans, not username bans.
But, the sheer amount of people leaving so soon is bad for the game. Several awesome maps in Warcraft 3, that relied on a sort of domino affect, could be ruined if just ONE crux player left (Germany from a flawlessly historical WW2 map).
Wow, I never thought someone in facepunch also adores Warcraft universe.
Say, lets organise a game of custom map over battle.net? Night of the Dead, X Hero Siege, maybe Enfo's Team Survival?
plz no dota.
SC2 has heroes
Not the specific mechanic that WC3 Does.

Yes let's organise a game
Can we organize it on euro battle.net?
I remember'd for RPing clans, whoever had the ability to Host was treated like a god among men.

It does

As I said before my friends, no joining that I can do.
I no longer own this great game, and my money is low.
I'd totally be down for a WC3 night, there was phase at college where everyone used to play WC3 custom maps (normal games took too long for our short break periods) and I got pretty into it.

You didn't active your key on Battle.net?
I did, not even sure if I still have the physical copies.
