It's a bump. Instead of creating a new thread, he posted what's relevant in the old one. It's one of the few good bumps, and I'm sure a mod'll move it into the TF2 section.
Everything I have is set to High and it looks great, but are there any Configs or console commands to make it look even better? Nothing like mat_picmip -10 or hwm faces, I know those.
Also probably wrong section.
Here's what i have

Here's the autoexec I've been using for about half a year.
Do you have any idea how old this thread is you just bumped.
It took me until I saw a Bad Reading rating to realize this was an old thread. I was happy for a moment in which I thought it had somehow returned. I was disappointed.
I miss the Ultra High Textures, they looked really great.
I miss the Ultra High Textures, they looked really great.
Their gone now?
I can't remember why VALVe removed mat_picmip from -10 to -2, didn't they say it was because it could slow down computers or something? Which made no sense because it was a completely optional command that nobody could accidentally activate?
You might wanna try these configs out.

They removed it because they were worried it could cause stability issues
They removed it because they were worried it could cause stability issues
Its still in portal 2. (Since I last played it)
But that dosen't matter because Portal 2's textures where low resolution with trickery.
They removed it because they were worried it could cause stability issues
There's a SPUF thread where some guy emailed Robin and asked him why, he replied that it caused performance and stability issues for "some users".
i.e people with Nvidia 9800GT's trying mat_picmip -10 and complaining that their computer exploded.

Is it just me, or does anyone else not notice any difference at all between this config and the graphics turned on max in the options?

TF2 ran fine with mat_picmip -10 on my 8800 GTS. : \

I was alright with my mat_picmip -10 as well, but I realized that it used loads of memory and possibly RAM so I didn't bother using it. Portal 2 doesn't let me use mat_picmip over -1 which doesn't surprise me
mat_picmip was capped at -1 because setting it to -10 caused instability on some systems.
Couldn't they have just said so instead of limiting everyone to -1, though?

That's what pissed me off the most. Just because some people can't run it, they removed it completely.
It's called "tell the dumb asses not to use settings that they can't handle."

mat_picmip -10 to -2 does NOT DO ANYTHING except put more stress on the processor. It has no visual impact WHATSOEVER.

Has anyone considered emailing Robin and asking him if they could put it back in?
For instance, the ground, wall, and every other map texture. All of them are unaffected.

Not true. Up close all textures look better.
Not true. Up close all textures look better.
Uh, no. Decompressing most of the large textures in the game won't really do anything to them except take up more space.

You can keep saying this, and those of us who actually used the feature when it was there will know you are retarded.
You can keep saying this, and those of us who actually used the feature when it was there will know you are retarded.
I was in the tf2 beta and I fucked around with most of the settings to see what they did, and I can definitely say mat_picmip -10 did not do anything for most large textures.
