Yes because I wasn't in the tf2 beta and I never fucked around with most of the settings to see what they did.
TF2 was in beta three years after it was released?
I meant the one before it came out
I meant the one before it came out
I thought mat_picmip was capped last year...
I thought mat_picmip was capped last year...
Yes that's why I said I was in the tf2 beta when it wasn't capped?

That seemed more obviously sarcastic in my head. Now that I read it, it's just a mindfuck. sorry
Wow, the cuff changed. Most of the textures are unaffected.
I remember specifically using these commands. Sure, it wasn't something you'd notice in standard gameplay. But it DEFINITELY made everything a lot more detailed.
i.e people with Nvidia 9800GT's trying mat_picmip -10 and complaining that their computer exploded.
I have an NVidia 9800GT and I was able to run TF2 with mat_picmip -10 and all other settings on high at a nice 80 frames per second.
Is there anyway now to make the game look better? Or are we screwed? Like what about shadows?
Is there anyway now to make the game look better? Or are we screwed? Like what about shadows?
mat_picmip is disabled, but you can use high quality configs. There's an example one on the TF2 wiki:
cl_burninggibs 1 cl_detaildist 2400 cl_detailfade 0 cl_maxrenderable_dist 6000 cl_new_impact_effects 1 cl_ragdoll_collide 1 cl_smooth 1 cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 1 dsp_enhance_stereo 1 lod_TransitionDist 6400 mat_aaquality 8 mat_antialiasing 16 mat_antialinis 16 mat_bumpmap 1 mat_clipz 0 mat_hdr_tonemapscale 16 mat_motion_blur_forward_enabled 1 mat_picmip -1 mat_queue_mode 2 mat_specular 1 mp_usehwmmodels 1 mp_usehwmvcds 1 r_fastzreject 1 r_lod 0 r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 1 r_threaded_particles 1 r_threaded_renderables 1 r_waterforceexpensive 1 snd_mixahead 1 echo Custom config loaded
Just go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/whateveryouraccountnameis/team fortress 2/tf/cfg/ and create a .txt file named autoexec.cfg. Then, paste the config in and save. But sometimes Notepad tacks on a .txt extension, so it looks like autoexec.cfg.txt and doesn't do anything. You need to go to Control Panel, then Folder Options, click the View tab, and make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" isn't checked. That way you'll be able to see the .txt and remove it.
-snip, wrong thread-
I wonder why cl_burninggibs 1 isn't available in advanced options?
I wonder why cl_burninggibs 1 isn't available in advanced options?
actually none of the stuff on that list is available in the advanced options. except for mat_picmip -1, you can get the same effect by setting texture quality to Very High.
I really wonder why they did so you can't use mat_showlowresimage 1 in sv_cheats 0 servers anymore. It was fun to use. And mat_picmip 10.
probably the same reason you can't change viewmodel_fov in CSS. Because god help you if people get it in their heads to set it to 200 so that their guns are upside down and can make perfect headshots more efficiently.
mat_picmip is disabled, but you can use high quality configs. There's an example one on the TF2 wiki:
Okay, seriously. Why is that piece of junk still on the wiki? It's terrible. Why is it even IN here? echo Custom config loaded
If you want a good high-quality config, use either Chris's or 1/4 Life's. My own config isn't currently presentable.
Uh, no. Decompressing most of the large textures in the game won't really do anything to them except take up more space.
Have you seen a game called APB: Reloaded? They compressed their textures and it made the WHOLE game look like total shit.
...In Portal 2 and Alien Swarm. In TF2, however,:
Wasn't this removed in this patch?
