No, it's way better. The original Shadow Warrior was an iffy Duke clone, the new one is probably the best of the new wave of "old-school" shooters like Serious Sam, Painkiller, and Hard Reset.
Personally I think the original is better, but I am biased since I played that game growing up. This reboot is definitely awesome though. I hope they might add a survival/horde mode DLC with coop
I just played the original and I do agree that it's a bit better because of the freeform level design, and the weapons are better than the new one (with some exceptions, I fucking love the new shotty and crossbow).
I wish it could have gore like DukePlus though. There doesn't seem to be any gore mods for it.
Though they are both great games and I hope if there is a sequel they only improve.
I would like to see them put in a shrink ray in a future SW game though, I fail to see why more games don't since it's so incredibly fun to step on enemies, and it's not like 3D Realms/Gearbox have the technology copyrighted.
Just finished my second playthrough. I'm disappointed in the ending all over again.
The final boss was also pretty disappointing. He wasn't nearly as cool as the second boss. There wasn't even any final boss music! I could have sworn there was some on my first playthrough. I had to listen to the Metal Gear Rising OST instead.
Yeah that was some bull right there, I thought my game bugged out at the end
If you really want some excitement, listen to Rules of Nature during the first part of the final level. It makes it about 5 times better.
I often find myself just wailing my sword around trying to hit everything within the vicinity of me...I'm rather bad at this game.
I really wish there was some kind of block/parry move that, when well timed, lets you do a cool counter attack or deflect certain projectiles. That would have made the sword fighting feel a lot better.
Also, they should do an extended edition like they did with Hard Reset, in which [sp]you go after Zilla[/sp].
didn't even notice the ex mode thing until now
time to replay the game on hard
This game is so much easier with that skill that heals you on every Ki strike. Combined with the spin attack you can get pretty much all your health back and slaughter everything in the vicinity!

Sounds like it woulda been pretty neat; reminds me of the parrying system in Dust: An Elysian Tail, though in that game a parry functioned kinda like a stun.
Also, on the subject of Shadow Warrior, I've definitely been enjoying it, even though my machine is so ancient that I sometimes have to struggle through instances of low-framerate even with all the options set as low as they can go. I really need to upgrade my machine and get Windows 7, since XP only registers 2 gigs; once I finally get the upgrades I'll be able to experience this game with a full appreciation of the engine. I'm still enjoying it massively even on my bucket of bolts that barely counts as a computer, so I expect I'd love it even more with a modern beast of scream and steel.
I want this game. T-T
