This is correct, but there's some people that are working on getting this working that are behind one of WoWs most popular private server emulators. The format is probably really similar to WoW, seeing the files are not that different either. (will still take a long while to get it properly working though)

Yeah true, also of note however is that private WoW server emulators to this day are still not really 100% accurate to the real game, suffering a lot from broken AI, broken abilities, broken talents, broken features, etc.
By the time they figure out the beta the actual game will probably be out unless if Blizzard made it super duper ez mode (unlikely, it's blizzard)

Diablo III is much more clientside than WoW it seems. Might get lucky on this.

The same has been happening for all WoW Betas/patches, SCII beta and now DIII beta, I don't think they really care that much. They have a pretty secure system already but they keep on using their CDN for beta installers/patches which is pretty silly since it's really easy to find stuff on there.

I'm gonna wait for the real beta too. Cataclysm Alpha was a pile of dicks to get working and was in a terrible state anyway, and I got into the Beta very early so hopefully the same will happen with this.
