hmm... there needs to be more creepyness to a minecraft world. Like stumbling across a Redstone contraption, with a sign in some dead language, or a house with everything in it... but no person to live there.

If anything, those vertical tunnels are going to scare me the most. Getting shot into one? Instant death.

Or maybe every time a villager dies or is killed a ghost will roam the town they're from at night.
I think you forgot glass panes?

Knowing Notch they'd come out of fucking no-where and terrorize the shit out of the player.
Any word on when this update is coming out?
The point is any of the things in the OP could be removed if Notch and Jeb see fit. The list is just things we've seen in screenshots or things Notch or Jeb have mentioned they were working on. Sure it's unlikely that Notch will trash critical hits, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen, and I doubt tons of people would leave minecraft if critical hits get removed, remember the map? Notch was showing us lots of different zoom levels and multiplayer stuff for maps, and none of those were added, but no one left because of that. As for the animal farming Jeb has mentioned it several times. I'm not blaming you for anything. All I'm saying is I think the screenshot with the stacked meat is plenty of evidence to assume foods can be stacked, at least up to 4. Your argument that "Notch frowns upon stacked food" isn't valid for this update since the health and food system has been completely reworked. We can no longer heal instantly, food takes 1.6 seconds to eat, and we have to eat regularly not just when hurt, so stacked food wouldn't be over powered. For all we know he could be fine with it, maybe he even suggested it.
Okay, I suppose you are right. Sorry.

You're just going into a cave or something, and you see yourself for a second before it disappears. lolherobrine
The greatest effect to the creepy ness is actually a glitch that happened very very shortly. Some may remember playing the game, and then suddenly seeing something that came from a long deleted save, or a other save file. Somewhere around 1.5 this started happening though was quickly fixed because it caused a lot of glitches/crashes. If notch could do this, randomize a bit of the structure, and add hostile mobs of the "dead", that would be epic. How he would randomize the structure would actually somewhat be simple. It uses only "player placed blocks", to record to gather structures from saves. It takes this information does a random calculation of "splash damage" to the structure as if it was hit by varying sizes of explosion, and then takes multiple structures does the same thing to them and groups them into a "ghost town". This also means these could be especially dangerous, if you play around with tnt/traps/other things a lot. The ghost towns would have that creepy air of familiarity, but would be "different" run down, covered in grass and broken stone ect.

It was strange seeing the structure you built in a previous save staring you right back in the face.
I'm so excited for this update, I really hope it will release early September optimistic
Y'know, currently the XP system seems to be just for show, but according to the below image they're making improvements. (on top of the XP bar) Seems like there's gonna be Skill Points as well, judging by the screenshot, but I dunno if they've made anything to invest them in yet. Hope their use becomes apparent soon... Perhaps there'll be a submenu where you assign Skill Points, or maybe even a sort of Study Table where you do that. Perhaps maybe creating a sort of XP Book to store Experience or Skill Points in would be handy, helping you preserve some semblance of what you've gathered, like how you store items in Chests.

Most of my homes have been built around and into the landscape. Once, I made a house in to a giant "spike" in to an otherwise completely flat snowy area. The house was built in to the landscape, and the only player-placed blocks were the ladders, the floors, and the glass. To see the floating floors, windows, and ladders of that house wouldn't seem creepy, it would just seem like a glitch. It would work quite well if you only ever built standalone structures on flat plains, but if you like to conserve space like me you'd just end up with floating chests and glass panes in the middle of fields.
go into a small ruin, find a 'strange compass' that doesn't point to your spawn, follow it and find a huge abandoned castle and then they come
http://www.justin.tv/fdoke/b/293539704? Go to 50:21 and watch him kill that creeper. What are those green ball things it dropped in addtion to gunpowder?
Experience. Everything drops them i think.
The huge oceans are amazing, i'd hate to get stuck in the middle of an island and have to swim over one.

Just simply finding my old abandoned mines from the current save gave me this uneasy, creepy feeling.
I hope you get WAY less xp/nothing from peaceful mobs. And I hope that xp points can be used well (faster healing?)
probably faster everything, since time is everything in minecraft faster mining, smelting, healing, digging, cutting. Then you could have longer sprinting, faster bow charging, stronger attacks, etc
I am really glad there is going to be large oceans. I would love to play on a server that just a chain of a few small-medium islands with each player getting one to themselves, and bridging them all together.
I remember seeing a bit of this in the new PAX footage (just glimpsed through it really, the quality was shitty), but are there generated abandoned mines now? I could have sworn I heard them say that.
something that could probably be easy to code, and be ridiculously creepy: torches in caves. -current caves, dark, nothing. Only creepy because you can't see mobs. -caves with just torches 'oh shit someone's been here what the fuck'

Firstly, that would only work if you never knew the terrain generator added torches, otherwise it'd just be "meh I can't remember if I've been here or not". In multiplayer, it'd be "huh, someone *might* have been here" rather than the current "oh shit someone's been here what the fuck". Adding randomly generated torches doesn't add anything to the game, just takes away from the multiplayer experience.
There are torches in abandoned mineshafts
Oh shit, abandoned mineshafts? Didn't hear about this. I'm feeling much more panicked now.
:insert neat image macro here:
okay we got all this nice stuff for 1.8, i'm really happy for notch BUT IF THIS DOESN'T FIX THE MEMORY ERROR THE ENTIRE UPDATE IS SHIT
There will be blue poisonous spiders but you'll only find them in abandoned mines.
