Why not just make the levels extra tall so that the camera is low enough to see the bottom floor?

Because then what would be the point of porting it? Might as well make a completley new map.

I've still got a shit ton of work to do with it. Right now all the walls are super tall, so it's hard to see your player. I need to go through an level them all out basically.

Maybe he could just make the top floor a func_wall_toggle, then have it dissapear when the player is on the lower floor. Kinda hacky, and he'd have to put some block_light brushes in there for casting shadows, but it could work.
uhm, Excuse me? im not sure if this question has been answered before, and im also sorry for being so polite (my doctor put me on some mood stabilizers) but is their anyway to fix the instant crash to desktop problem? I've tried lowering DXlevel, i've tried windowed mod, Etc. But nothing seems to work. anyone have any ideas?
Anyone found a better combo then the marksman/minigun for the spec-wep? I found it just too damn good to beat.

I would just like to say, use incendiary sentries; they last longer and have the flame splash. Also that the railgun or semiauto sniper would be awesome on that map.
So as my OCD always makes me do, I went and made up a spreadsheet of weapon damage per shot, damage from full load, and damage per second.
-Damage and DPS-
Best weapon in DPS and total damage capacity is the Flame Sentry; 350 dps and 28000 potential damage a clip without splash.
PDW has 2nd highest DPS at 200.2 and can do 6720 damage in all its ammo.
The shotguns take 3rd and 4th DPS wise, but the Vindicator can potentially do 8820.
-Reloading stuff-
I also figured out the base timing for the action reloads on the 4 main reload times. the base times are from the scripts not ingame, a lot of those are wrong.
Assault rifles, Autogun, Minigun, and Marksman rifle take 2.0 seconds to reload base, the action reload is at 1.0 seconds. This is for someone with no reload speed boost.
Railgun and pump shotgun have reloads of 1.3 base and the action reload is at 0.65 seconds.
The Tesla Cannon and flamethrower have reload bases of 2.2 seconds and action reloads at 1.15 seconds. Notice a pattern?
The Pistols and PDW have bases of 1.0 seconds and have the action reload start at 0.5.
So rules of thumb is action reload is at 50% normal reload time. Each point in reload boost improves reload times by 10%.
Actions reloads reduce reload times by 30% of current time.
There might be some error in my times for reloads, I recorded them using autohotkey's key history.

As that would be a solution, it wouldn't be a very good one. The houses would look very tall and out of proportion. That wouldn't look very good at all.
I figured I'd just post this. It's a .vmf of a possible solution to that limitation with multiple floors people were talking about. Like I said, kinda hacky, but it works.

Can someone tell my why I have yet to be able to join any games? When I try to join, it either stays on the authenticating server window forever, or I get the "Failed to connect to server". Please help.
Anyone know how to replace models?
I've got a player replacement compiled and it's in \models\swarm\marine\ and I've also tried making it an addon but nothing works.
Same happens with me, but as long as you keep trying you will eventually find a good one.

Nope. But those RTS nerds got the 40k space marines in their, so we know that its possible.
I lagged really bad while I was playing and it removed a person from my hud and replaced it with Faith (The character I was playing):

Wow, this game is fun, I was only playing it for the hat in TF2 but now I enjoy it

Why didn't the map maker do it like in the original game, where the second floor is a teleport to a distant area?
Updates to Alien Swarm have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:
Alien Swarm
Fixed crash to desktop on certain graphics cards
Fixed matchmaking sending you to the wrong mission
Fixed not being able to earn the “Ammo Technician” achievement
Fixed not being able to open particle systems in the editor

Most people are bored of the first campaign, making their own. Creativity of the community will make this game amazing in ~1 month.
