The Cacodemon fatality is pretty good. He hits them a few times and then rips their eye out.
I always loved the Noise the Cacodemons made when they died in the Original unmodified game. Buuglalaa, or what ever.
More like weebleweebleweebleweeble.
I always loved the Noise the Cacodemons made when they died in the Original unmodified game. Buuglalaa, or what ever.
Blblblblblb. And I always loved the Mancubus when it dies. Awesome death sequence.
Ah yes the Mancubus. Big fat bastards.
It'd be kinda neat to get a FP community mapping project going.
I second this idea.
I second this idea.
As I said, I started one but it never went anywhere. Here's the steam group
Btw what does shareware mean?
Shareware means software that you are encouraged to distribute.
Shareware means software that you are encouraged to distribute.
The demos of old.
Could I obtain Doom 2 like Doom 1?
No. Doom 2 and the full version of Doom 1 have to be purchased.
No. Doom 2 and the full version of Doom 1 have to be purchased.
Ah, sucks.
You can get each of the different Dooms on Steam reasonably cheap. The Ultimate Doom Doom II+Master Levels for Doom II Final Doom They're $9.99USD each. Or $33.99USD for the Doom complete pack which includes Doom 3 and its expansion too.
They're very cheap on Steam. [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline] Ninja
Ah, sucks.
In the clientregistry.blob file for Steam there's evidence on sales for Quakecon. All the Doom games will be on sale, probably at very low prices. Also, for those interested, Quake 4 has popped up in the clientregistry tol.

Color me curious - you'd think it would've been on since launch a few years ago, why add it now? RAGE or is there something particularly special going on this year? Also, anyone know of any mappack wads that isn't something sadistically difficult or overly tedious (Momento Mori and Knee High in ZDoom, i'm looking at you respectively.)
Try Doom the way id did. It's only in the alpha stages as of now but it's pretty nice. The music is pretty bad though, excluding E1M1 and E3M8.
I'll probably be flamed for this, but I was playing Doom 2 on the X-Box 360, and I found it really fun with the controller.
I don't know that there are any grounds for flaming, here, as IIRC, the original PC version used only the keyboard (no mouse!) to control the player. It wasn't even WASD, it was keypad! 7 & 9 to strafe. It was all about the 7&6 or the 9&4 to circle around your opponent.

John Romero used WASD and mouse for Doom before it was even released. Where did you get the 7/6 or 9/4 stuff, that's a load of bullshit too. I mean seriously, 1-7 were used to select weapons dammit.

While Romero used WASD, it wasn't a commonly accepted default setup until Quake I believe.
If you dont mind, ive started a map. I like to do the first one, because its straightforward for a lame mapper like me.

[editline]3rd August 2011[/editline] Speaking of John Romero, he apparently frequents the Doom World Forums.
He's actually posted in the DTWID thread a few times.
He's actually posted in the DTWID thread a few times.
That is where I seen it.
This thread's title is right, it is hard to keep it going. Are there any custom WADs you guys recommend? I personally like remakes the most, like how Knee Deep in ZDoom was a remake of Episode 1 in Ultimate Doom.
There's a WIP project on Doomworld called Doom 2 meets Zdoom that might be worth checking out.
The mod I posted earlier, here are some more facts Shotgun Guys are replaced by Machine Pistol Zombies (I don't think shotgun zombies exist anymore, but you can still find shotgun pick ups) There are Frag Grenades, I believe they randomly replace single rocket pickups Quake Style Railgun (insta Gibs Imps and Zombies) I'm not sure if you can get it outside of cheating. 2 weapons from Hexen (at least their sprites are) a Skull staff that shoots Red 'lasers' and a red Staff that shoots grey souls that track and kill enemies (there is an enemy that replaces the Pain Elemental randomly that does the same thing)

Congestion 1024 is a good one if you're looking for small, fast-paced maps (which are literally limited to a size of 1024x1024) Claustrophobia 1024 is the spiritual successor to Congestion 1024 and is much more difficult from what I remember. Knee Deep in Zdoom as mentioned is kind of a modern-revision of episode 1. I personally enjoyed it despite it getting a lot of criticisms for the level design being too complex and detailed. It also gave it quite a creepy atmosphere. Unloved was one of the first WADs I played and it's quite different from others considering you have a hub level instead of going from one level to the next. It's got a really creepy atmosphere and is very switch heavy so you may not want to try this one if you tend to get lost easily. Also if you have played through Doom 1 and 2 and you have Final Doom, don't ignore TNT: Evilution and Plutonia Experiment. I'll update this list as I finish playing through other doom WADs. I find myself playing a lot of WADs but never managing to finish through them.
