If you play KDIZD, be sure to disable the music.
I used a WAD with KDIZD that replaced the default music with the PSX doom music, which works better for its atmosphere.

You could also mute the music in Doom and play whatever music you want in the background.
Doom 1 and 2 were - and still are - awesome. Replay them with ZDoom if you get the chance. Doom 3 was shit, except for the end when they finally ditched monster closets and started throwing lots of enemies at you at once. [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
Wrong. John Romero used WASD and mouse for Doom before it was even released. Where did you get the 7/6 or 9/4 stuff, that's a load of bullshit too. I mean seriously, 1-7 were used to select weapons dammit.
I'm not sure about that. I remember getting Doom 2 for Christmas and I used only the keyboard for controls. That was before Windows 95 so I didn't own or need a mouse. Another guy I know used the mouse for movement and aiming (I think right click moved forward?) and the keyboard for shooting, opening, etc. WASD+mouse wasn't even well supported when Quake came out two years later. It did have mouse look, but I believe you had to hold down a key in order to use it.
Those production shots are from 2009, and they still haven't released any info on it?
No info yet, I'm counting on DOOM 4 this Quakecon, since it wasn't there last year.
I figure this might be the correct place to ask, so, here goes: There was this game I played years and years ago, and I'm interested in finding out what it was. All I remember was that it was in a mazey-type environment, much like wolfenstein 3D, and I'm pretty sure it was on the same engine as that, or Doom. I think the game was more based on puzzles than the kill-everything sort of thing you find in the other games, and there was a dog in it.. I think you had to rescue the dog or something similar.. Or perhaps you played as the dog. Any ideas?
Ken's Labyrinth? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken%27s_Labyrinth
Ken's Labyrinth? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken%27s_Labyrinth
Ah, thanks. It's funny, because I saw the original box to that laying around..
Just dropped my computer off at Quakecon. Saw someone walking into the room where they have most of their presentations and asked if Doom 4 would be making an appearance. :v: He told me to go away. [editline]4th August 2011[/editline]
No info yet, I'm counting on DOOM 4 this Quakecon, since it wasn't there last year.
That's what I thought... In 2009.
He was probably busy as fuck though.
I'll list the ones which I've recently played through and mostly enjoyed. Congestion 1024 is a good one if you're looking for small, fast-paced maps (which are literally limited to a size of 1024x1024) Claustrophobia 1024 is the spiritual successor to Congestion 1024 and is much more difficult from what I remember. Knee Deep in Zdoom as mentioned is kind of a modern-revision of episode 1. I personally enjoyed it despite it getting a lot of criticisms for the level design being too complex and detailed. It also gave it quite a creepy atmosphere. Unloved was one of the first WADs I played and it's quite different from others considering you have a hub level instead of going from one level to the next. It's got a really creepy atmosphere and is very switch heavy so you may not want to try this one if you tend to get lost easily. Also if you have played through Doom 1 and 2 and you have Final Doom, don't ignore TNT: Evilution and Plutonia Experiment. I'll update this list as I finish playing through other doom WADs. I find myself playing a lot of WADs but never managing to finish through them.
I've played all those, it's a good list. I think there making a Shores of Zdoom for Ep2, but dunno when it'll be done.
I think there making a Shores of Zdoom for Ep2, but dunno when it'll be done.
http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=29927 [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] I just noticed the 'Doom Guy' holds/fires the pistol with his left hand. The 2 shotguns and the Plasma rifle he fires right handed, but not the pistol.
Though it most likely won't happen, I still have that little ounce of hope in the back of my mind that Doom 4 will make a surprise appearance at Quakecon.
And for everyone not owning the original Doom and the sequels, go on Steam. Now
Never played any of the dooms, though I have tried wolf3D
Alright from watching the quakecon live blog, Carmack is now on stage.
Doom related, Carmack just said hes got permission to release the Doom 3 source code this year.
I can't believe I've just spent all day glued to my computer screen waiting for a Doom 4 announcement... Fuck.
you realize Quake-Con is until the 7th. [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] Everyone working on RAGE is moving over to Doom 4.
I been playing Master Levels for Doom 2 and some of them really are quite good. Particularly Blood Sea, if you don't have them, you should buy it on Steam, it is really fun.
i like brutaldoom, very blood soaked the first couple of levels of thy flesh consumed are pretty annoying with it though
Why? I wasn't bothered at all.
I've been playing Doom II RPG on my iPod Touch (got it for 99c a couple days ago, dunno if it's still on sale now). It's actually a really excellent game; Doom really lends itself well to the first person dungeon-crawl style games. Also, you can rip sinks off and throw them at people. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] It's still on sale, probably for QuakeCon.
Can I get some help? I installed Sikkmod for Doom 3, but everything is just ridiculously blurry, I can barely see anything without straining my eyes. Is it meant to be like that?
